Gen 3 Calm Mind Abra (Offensive + Defensive)

BlackKnight_Gawain

PUPL Champion
[OVERVIEW]
Abra boasts some of the highest Special Attack and Speed stats in LC, making it a top tier offensive threat as a Calm Mind sweeper. Being in the second fastest speed tier of 19 also means only a select few Pokemon can outspeed it to threaten it back. With the option to choose between getting immediate destructive power or opting for a more defensively oriented sweeping set, Abra is a top-tier force in the metagame that is to be reckoned with. The offensive Calm Mind set aims to utilize Abra's offenses to its full potential as it sets up and sweeps mid-to-late game. The defensive Calm Mind set trades some power for investing in Abra's bulk to make it a harder to KO setup sweeper mid-to-late game. Abra has its flaws — its low Defense set makes it vulnerable to physical attackers, particularly ones it cannot immediately KO like specially defensive Diglett which trap and revenge kill it. It also has a near-perfect check in Houndour, which walls all variants of Abra that lack Hidden Power Water.

[SET]
Offensive Calm Mind (Abra) @ Sitrus Berry
Level: 5
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 76 Def / 236 SpA / 196 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Substitute / Encore
- Thief / Hidden Power Water
- Calm Mind

[SET COMMENTS]
At +2 Special Attack Abra is near unwallable versus the full metagame, OHKOing even the bulkiest walls like Porygon. The EV distribution is to focus on ensuring the maximum offensive output from Abra with the leftover EVs in Defense to survive weaker physical attacks like Porygon's Return. Many of the tier's special attackers such as Chinchou often find themselves setup bait for Abra. Substitute allows Abra to dodge status moves from the likes of Porygon, as well as bring it into Sitrus Berry range against slower targets, and also ensure Abra has a chance to setup without risk of status, damage or risk of Explosion/Self-Destruct. Encore performs a similar role, usually locking things such as Porygon into the weaker Ice Beam or Recycle to enable Abra's setup; potentially locking Substitute users as well, forcing switches and giving extra opportunities to setup with Calm Mind. Thief provides Abra coverage for opposing Abra, as well as the ability to steal opposing items such as Sitrus, or Salac Berry, after it has consumed its own. Hidden Power Water lets it OHKO Houndour at +1 but has to run 240 SpA with no Defense investment due to needing lower Defense and Special Attack IVs, forcing a 240 SpA investment. Synchronize also deters Thunder Wave users making Abra harder to stop after it acquires Calm Mind boosts.

This set is susceptible to the three Pokemon in the tier that outspeed it: Voltorb, Elekid and Diglett. The former two can paralyze Abra, or use Explosion in the case of Voltorb, while Diglett can OHKO with Earthquake after trapping Abra. Specially defensive Diglett sets are also capable of living unboosted Psychics when switching in to trap and revenge kill Abra. Specially defensive Diglett beats the Electric-types and Houndour, while Porygon counter-traps opposing Diglett which make both good partners for offensive Abra. Chinchou is another valuable partner versus the Electric-types due to Volt Absorb. Strong priority moves like Doduo's Banded Quick Attack can KO Abra, so Ghost-types like Gastly and Duskull can serve as checks due to their typing, although the former needs to worry about predicting to avoid Drill Peck. Gastly and Duskull can also serve as another check to Diglett sets that don't run Hidden Power Ghost due to being immune to Arena Trap and Earthquake by respect of their typing and ability respectively.

Defensive Calm Mind (Abra) @ Sitrus Berry
Level: 5

EVs: 76 HP / 156 Def / 76 SpA / 196 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Substitute / Encore
- Thief
- Calm Mind

[SET COMMENTS]
This set notably fails to secure immediate KOs that the offensive set achieves, but in exchange for this trade-off it lives trapping from Diglett at full health. The EV distribution for this set is to focus on ensuring Abra setups at a steadier pace, trading immediate firepower for longevity. At +2 Special Attack, Psychic has a 50% chance to OHKO Porygon from full health while bulky Wailmer almost always survives due to it being a measly 6.3% chance to KO. Substitute and Encore let Abra block damage or lock Pokemon such as Porygon into Recycle for setup opportunities respectively. Thief is preferred on defensive Abra to heal from chip damage by stealing opposing Sitrus Berries — making it harder to revenge kill and providing coverage against opposing Abra.

The bulky set is recommended to partner with trappers like Diglett or Trapinch to remove Houndour, which completely walls this set. Porygon is another perfect partner, as paralysis support can enable Abra to setup on paralyzed Pokemon with Substitute and Calm Mind. Spikes support from Cacnea, Pineco or Snorunt additionally help Abra secure KOs such as the aforementioned Wailmer. Duskull is another notable check, as it can tank +1 Psychic from full and OHKO Abra with Shadow Ball, making Houndour another option as a valuable partner to beat Duskull. Choice Band Doduo also exploits the passivity of Duskull, with Drill Peck being a 2HKO that will soften it up for Abra to sweep.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Synchronize is generally preferred to deter status however Inner Focus can be used in very niche instances to avoid Fake Out from the rare Meowth, or avoid a Rock Slide flinch from Diglett. Inner Focus also safely lets Abra use Thunder Wave against Porygon without risk of self paralysis. Abra can also opt for Ice Punch or Fire Punch as additional coverage options. Thief into Ice Punch beats the specially defensive trapper sets that might otherwise revenge kill Abra. Ice Punch on the bulky set can catch Doduo off-guard as Psychic is 31.3% chance to KO when unboosted. Fire Punch also OHKOs the uncommon Magnemite that wall Abra otherwise, while also OHKOing defensive Cacnea and Sunny Day sweeper Exeggecute at +1 Special Attack. An alternative option for the bulky set is to use Hidden Power Water on teams with less support against Houndour, with a different EV spread of 156 HP / 76 Def / 76 SpA / 196 Spe to ensure it can KO Houndour at +1 Special Attack. Another option is Barrier Abra, which is used often as a lead to safely setup without fear of trappers coming in later and live an Explosion from Pineco while setting up Calm Mind. Lastly, Abra can also be a niche Reflect/Light Screen setter, although it is recommended to have additional setup sweepers like Bagon alongside it to take advantage of the screens.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Houndour**: As mentioned before, Houndour is the single biggest deterrent to both sets. Pursuit will OHKO both Abra sets even at +1 Special Defense if forced to switch. 13 Special Defense Houndour can take an unboosted Hidden Power Water from offensive Abra and bulky Abra fails to OHKO Houndour with it entirely. Houndour is a threat that needs to be scouted for accordingly before setting up to sweep as Crunch will OHKO both sets.

**Diglett and Trapinch**: Specially defensive Diglett is a reliable offensive Abra check, as it comfortably traps sets that aren't running Hidden Power Water and revenge kills them. Diglett OHKOs offensive Abra but does require Spikes chip or some other form of damage on the bulky set to trap and KO. Trapinch can tank an unboosted Psychic and can OHKO back Abra with Earthquake, or use Quick Attack to pick off weakened Abra.

**Explosion/Self-Destruct**: Wailmer and Voltorb can threaten Abra lacking Subsitute with Self-Destruct and Explosion respectively. Wailmer's bulk means it can take a Psychic while Voltorb is naturally faster than Abra to be able to threaten it with Explosion.

**Doduo**: Abra sets should be wary of Quick Attack, as Doduo can KO both variants after some chip, doing about 60-75% for the bulky set and 68.4-84.2% for the offensive set. Offensive Abra OHKOs Doduo, while the bulky set does need some chip damage as Psychic is a 31.3% OHKO in the rare event Doduo is at full health.

**Duskull**: For both sets, Duskull can beat Abra even after it has set up a Calm Mind and OHKOes Abra with Shadow Ball.

**Magnemite**: Magnemite's Steel typing allow to it to take most Abra attacks even at +2, barring the extremely niche Fire Punch, and win 1v1.

[OVERVIEW]
Abra is a versatile Pokemon able to fit on most teams. The EV spread is the only big difference between either analysis set A variety of moves and a strong special attack set allows it to be a threatening setup sweeper that punishes many teams in the metagame. Being in the second fastest speed tier of 19 also means all but the bulkiest Pokemon are living +2 attacks from it while trying to revenge it. Would like you to highlight Abra's Speed and Special Attack first, and then reference its ability to clean up teams with calm mind. Jumping to damage output at +2 without mentioning how is jarring. With the option to choose between getting immediate destructive power or opting for a more defensively oriented sweeping set, Abra is a top-tier force in the metagame that is to be reckoned with.

[SET COMMENTS]
The EV distribution is to focus on ensuring the maximum offensive output from Abra. Bit verbose, its just max/max with leftover evs dumped in defense, Calm Mind and Psychic are its mandatory slots to enable powerful sweeping, leaving the remaining slots a choice between additional utility or coverage. Highlight what Calm Mind does for Abra rather than just stating its mandatory, its the focal point. Thief provides Abra coverage for opposing Abra, as well as the ability to steal opposing items such as Sitrus, or Salac Berry, after it has consumed its own. Substitute allows Abra to dodge status moves from the likes of Porygon, as well as bring it into Sitrus Berry range against slower targets. Hidden Power Water lets it beat Houndour allows Abra to OHKO houndour at +1, which otherwise would wall it. Mention the EVs needed to run Hidden Power Water as you no longer can run defense investment. Thief can be opted over Hidden Power to ensure Abra's Sitrus Berry is restored to keep it at full health. Thief being the primary slot should be presented before HP Water, same with Sub Another perk of Thief is shutting down would be Salac Berry sweepers that might live a +1 Psychic and shut down Abra after. Too niche of an example Substitute can be used to ensure Abra has a chance to setup without risk of status or damage, while Encore does a similar role albeit usually locking things such as Porygon into the weaker Ice Beam to enable Abra's setup. Highlight encore locking Porygon into recycle or others into substitute. Very relevant for forcing switches and finding turns to calm mind. Synchronise should be mentioned as Thunder-Wave cannot be used to outspeed Abra if you cannot already.

At +2 this set is near unwallable versus the full metagame, KOing even the bulkiest walls like Porygon and Wailmer Wailmer is not OHKOed by +2 Psychic +2 236 SpA Abra Psychic vs. 36 HP / 236+ SpD Wailmer: 26-31 (86.6 - 103.3%) -- 25% chance to OHKO in their standard forms, although more specially defensive sets are able to tank a boosted Psychic and handle Abra. Contradicts itself This set is also susceptible to faster Pokemon like the 20 speeders Voltorb, Elekid and Diglett, with the latter easily revenging with Earthquake after trapping Abra. Be more clear on how Elekid and Voltorb threaten Abra. Two special attackers vs a Calm Mind user isn't intuitive. Mention how they're capable of revenge killing. Sdef Diglet being able to switch into a Psychic is relevant as well and should be highlighted. Due to this reason, Offensive Calm Mind Abra is recommended to partner with Porygon, as it can take Paralysis from the first two and counter-trap Diglett. Teambuilders are also encouraged to use Koffing or Duskull as partners, as their bulk, Levitate and the latter's Ghost typing can deter Quick Attack from Band Doduo and beat Diglett. Okay so the biggest issues for Abra are Houndour, Diglett, and Prio from the likes of Doduo Quick Attack (the latter two you mentioned). I believe Chou, Diglett, and Gastly should be mentioned as teammates over Koffing and Duskull. Chou bullies the electrics you mentioned, and baits out Diglett for your porygon to counter trap it sooner. Diglett removes houndour and opposing Abra, Gastly can create large advantages off of coming in on band quick attack. Abra also does a good job at playing the support for Doduo. Threatens Koffing, Gastly that may come in on it. Wears down Duskull and Pory.

[SET COMMENTS]
The EV distribution for this set is to focus on ensuring Abra setups at a steadier pace, trading immediate firepower for longevity. Spread differences and why its being done need to be expanded upon, very unclear. Diglett EQ primarily must be brought up. Calm Mind and Psychic are its mandatory slots to enable powerful sweeping, leaving the remaining slots a choice between additional utility or coverage. This is a copy paste from last paragraph so same comment as before Thief is generally preferred on this set for ensuring chip does not slow down Abra. Thief is the only mention here, same comments from before apply Another perk of Thief is shutting down would be Salac Berry sweepers that might live a +1 Psychic and shut down Abra after. Substitute can be used to ensure Abra has a chance to setup without risk of status or damage, while Encore does a similar role albeit usually locking things such as Porygon into the weaker Ice Beam to enable Abra's setup. Too similar to the set comments of the previous, some parts identical. Apply everything I said there to here, if not removed for repetition.

This set notably fails to secure immediate KOs that the offensive set achieves. Unboosted, this set fails to usually kill Doduo which can revenge it. At +2, Porygon is a 50% roll to KO from full, while Wailmer can comfortably tank with its standard spread as the +2 is a 2HKO. While Thief does deter their longevity, Abra still has to be wary of Thunder Wave and Self-Destruct from these premier walls. Without Hidden Power Water, this set also fears Houndour which 1v1s it otherwise. The bulky set is recommended to partner with trappers like Diglett or Trapinch to remove Houndour or chip other walls down. Porygon is another perfect partner, as Paralysis support can often enable easier setup for Substitute sets which make Abra even more difficult to stop.
Mention spike support to help Abra achieve these OHKOs after a couple boosts. Mention what kind of mons Abra can set up on or force out. this goes for the previous one as well. Once it gets the boosts it sounds amazing, but theres no examples of when or how. I disagree that wailmer is a massive issue for this set, your opponent has to get a lot of turns right to potentially kill you with boom. Duskull needs to be highlighted, as well as Houndour again as this set has no listed way to handle it.

Synchronize is generally preferred to deter status however Inner Focus can be used in very niche instances to avoid Fake Out from the rare Meowth, or avoid a Rock Slide flinch from Diglett.

Abra's options of coverage moves means it can run an Elemental Punch like Ice Punch or Thunder Punch on these sets. No mention of what these hit, Ice Punch is for the trappers as thief into Ice Punch kills trapinch if ur max Spa. Diglett also just dies to it. I don't think tpunch deserves a mention. The bulky set in particular also appreciates Hidden Power Water on teams with less support against Houndour. An Elemental Punch on the bulky set can also catch Doduo off-guard as Psychic is generally a low roll to KO when unboosted. Fire Punch also beats the uncommon Magnemite that the bulky set in particular cannot KO at +2.

Certain sets have adopted using Barrier when used as Lead sets, which achieves the ability to force more disruptive trades at the start especially versus more passive Spikes leads. Lastly, Counter is another option that can be considered on the bulky set but it is generally difficult to position as it requires a healthy Abra and avoidance of a critical hit.
Counter is unserious, mention what Barrier Calm mind lead Abra is good against, and the point of barrier.

Checks and Counters
===================
While Abra can be a difficult Pokemon to deal with, it is not impossible. Prior chip damage from trades often puts in the range of many possible revenge killing options depending on the set, while certain Pokemon outright beat it comfortably once low enough.

Houndour as mentioned before, is probably the single biggest deterrent to both sets. Pursuit will KO through +1 versions of both sets if forced to switch. Without Hidden Power Water on the Offensive set, this is a threat that needs to be scouted for accordingly before setting up to sweep. Diglett revenge kills the Offensive set comfortably, but requires Spikes chip or some other form of damage on the Bulky set to KO comfortably. It is generally recommended to scout the Abra first before revenge killing, especially if the Abra has Sitrus Berry from full health still available. Trapinch is somewhat more reliable, as with some SpDef investment it comfortably revenge kills Offensive Abra while trading for its Sitrus Berry. It usually requires a bit more offensive investment to guarantee the KO on Bulky Abra, but the roll tends to be in the trapper's favor. Explosion/Self-Destruct KO all Abra sets without Substitute. Substitute sets all outspeed users of those moves, so it can be blocked and thus needs to be scouted accordingly, but Explosion and its sister move still tend to be useful counterplay. Wailmer in particular is the most reliable user due to its bulk and lack of weakness to Psychic the other common boom move users share. Doduo deters unboosted Bulky sets as Psychic has only a low chance to KO, while Band Quick Attack can revenge lower health Abra particularly after Sitrus is lost. Lastly, Spikes support often puts Abra in range for easy trapping and KOing, so the Abra user has to often play around it and time their Sitrus Berry to guarantee the full health range that makes Abra's setup qualities shine.

[OVERVIEW]
Abra boasts a strong Special Attack and Speed stat in ADV LC that can be a Bulky or full Offensive Calm Mind setup sweeper. Not sure what you're trying to say here. The EV distribution is to focus on ensuring the maximum offensive output from Abra with the leftover EVs in HP Defense for bulk. Calm Mind and Psychic are its mandatory slots to enable powerful sweeping, as setting up makes Abra a threatening mid-to-late game sweeper that can KO most things with Psychic. This is my bad I wasn't clear. I meant how Abra finds a lot of opportunities to set up Calm Mind on the majority of special attackers. Substitute allows Abra to dodge status moves from the likes of Porygon, as well as bring it into Sitrus Berry range against slower targets. Substitute can be used to ensure Abra has a chance to setup without risk of status or damage, while Encore does a similar role albeit usually locking things such as Porygon into the weaker Ice Beam or Recycle to enable Abra's setup. Mention how Sub lets you absorb Explosion/Self-Destruct if they try to boom to stop u from setting up. Encore can potentially lock Substitute users as well, forcing switches and giving extra opportunities to setup with Calm Mind. Thief provides Abra coverage for opposing Abra, as well as the ability to steal opposing items such as Sitrus, or Salac Berry, after it has consumed its own. Hidden Power Water can be opted over Thief, as it allows Abra to OHKO Houndour at +1, which otherwise would wall it. However running Hidden Power does come at a cost of making Abra weaker due to having a lower Defense and Special Attack IV stat, meaning it cannot invest EVs into Physical Defense and hits a little less hard due to going from 20 Special Attack to 19 Special Attack. Abra does not lose any Special Attack when it opts for Hidden Power Water. You move the now defunct defense evs over to have 240 Spa. Synchronize also deters Thunder Wave users unless they are faster, making Abra harder to stop after it acquires Calm Mind boosts.

At +2 this set is near unwallable versus the full metagame, KOing even the bulkiest walls like Porygon. This set is susceptible to faster Pokemon Voltorb, Elekid and Diglett. The former two can Paralyze Abra, or use Explosion in the case of Voltorb, while Diglett can KO with Earthquake after trapping Abra. Specially Defensive Diglett sets are also capable of living unboosted Psychics when switching in to trap and revenge kill Abra. Due to this reason, Offensive Calm Mind Abra is recommended to partner with Porygon, as it can take Paralysis from the first two and counter-trap Diglett. Teambuilders are also encouraged to use Chinchou, Diglett and Gastly as partners. Chinchou does not mind most Elekid and Voltorb sets, while Diglett can trap opposing 20 Speed Pokemon and Houndour. Gastly's typing and Levitate also prevent it from being trapped by Diglett, while being immune to Quick Attack from Doduo.

[SET COMMENTS]
The EV distribution for this set is to focus on ensuring Abra setups at a steadier pace, trading immediate firepower for longevity. There is now more Defense EV investment, which allows it to no longer fear Earthquake from Diglett after it has set up using Calm Mind. Calm Mind and Psychic are key for Abra to setup and sweep mid-to-late game. Substitute and Encore do similar things as the Offensive set, forcing setup opportunities with less risk to Abra. Thief is preferred here as it can heal Abra after chip damage is taken by stealing opposing Sitrus Berries, which makes it harder to revenge kill. It also provides Abra coverage for opposing Abra, as well as the ability to steal Salac Berry for would-be revenge killers. What mons are you stealing salac berries from that aren't just killing you when you try that. Not a fan of mentioning this anywhere still

This set notably fails to secure immediate KOs that the offensive set achieves. Unboosted, this set fails to usually kill Doduo which can revenge it. At +2, Porygon is a 50% roll to KO from full, while bulky Wailmer can comfortably tank with its standard spread as the +2 is a 2HKO. Wailmer is losing anyway switching in unless you boom TBH. While Thief does deter their longevity, Abra still has to be wary of Thunder Wave and Self-Destruct from these premier walls if it lacks Substitute. Without Hidden Power Water, this set also fears Houndour which 1v1s it otherwise. Hidden Power Water isn't on the move list for this one, and you'd have to drop the Spa into Defense to maintain the point of this spread. The bulky set is recommended to partner with trappers like Diglett or Trapinch to remove Houndour or chip other walls down. Porygon is another perfect partner, as Paralysis support can often enable easier setup for Substitute sets which make Abra even more difficult to stop. Spikes support from Cacnea, Pineco and Snorunt additionally help Abra secure KOs after getting Calm Mind Boosts that it might otherwise need more Special Attack investment for. Duskull is another notable check, as it can tank +1 Psychic from full and KO back with Shadow Ball, meaning bringing your own Houndour to beat Duskull is another option as a valuable partner.

Synchronize is generally preferred to deter status however Inner Focus can be used in very niche instances to avoid Fake Out from the rare Meowth, or avoid a Rock Slide flinch from Diglett.

Abra's options of coverage moves means it can run an Elemental Punch like Ice Punch on these sets. Thief into Ice Punch beat the specially defensive trapper sets that might otherwise revenge kill. An Elemental Punch on the bulky set can also catch Doduo off-guard as Psychic is generally a low roll to KO when unboosted. Fire Punch also beats the uncommon Magnemite that the bulky set in particular cannot KO at +2. The bulky set in particular also appreciates Hidden Power Water on teams with less support against Houndour, albeit has the same issues of losing a point in Defense and Special Attack which make it less reliable at times. Another mention of losing both stats for HP water when thats not the case. Here you would say you'd have to drop the Spa opposed to Defense though. Please mention Barrier Calm Mind

Checks and Counters
===================
**Houndour**: As mentioned before, Houndour is probably the single biggest deterrent to both sets. Pursuit will KO through +1 versions of both sets if forced to switch. Mention how Crunch also OHKOs +1 sdef Abra so it can't set up in its face if hp water. Without Hidden Power Water on the Offensive set, this is a threat that needs to be scouted for accordingly before setting up to sweep.

**Diglett and Trapinch**: Specially Defensive Diglett is a reliable Offensive Abra check, as it comfortably traps non hp water [236 SpA Abra Hidden Power Water vs. 36 HP / 156 SpD Diglett: 17-20 (94.4 - 111.1%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO] and revenge kills it. Diglett does requires Spikes chip or some other form of damage on the Bulky set to trap and KO. We can talk about whether Trapinchs sdef should be different on its analysis, but for now its 13 and dies +1 Psychic from offensive Calm Mind Abra. You can mention how Trapinch has priority to pick off weakened Abras as well. I'd argue diglett is the more reliable of the two given its faster, and OHKOs one of the sets while not fearing bulky at +0 It usually requires a bit more offensive investment to guarantee the KO on Bulky Abra, but the roll tends to be in the trapper's favor.

**Explosion/Self-Destruct**: Users of these moves KO all Abra sets without Substitute. I'd just trim this down to specially defensive Wailmer and Voltorb come in and threaten to boom with impunity on Abras lacking sub.

**Doduo**: Choice Band Doduo deters unboosted Bulky sets as Psychic has only a low chance to KO, while Band Quick Attack can revenge lower health Abra particularly after Sitrus is lost. Cut this down to Doduo QA can cut an Abra's sweep short from high %, yes Doduo can live Psychic from a certain spread of Abra, but with how often you'll have eaten double edge recoil its not too realistic and its not switching in on an expected psychic.

**Duskull**: For the both sets, Duskull can potentially beat the Abra even after +1 Calm Mind and KO back with Shadow Ball.

**Spikes**: Abra must be wary of Spikes, as it often puts Abra in range for easy trapping and KOing, so the Abra user has to often play around it and time their Sitrus Berry to guarantee the full health range that makes Abra's setup qualities shine. Mention specifically bulky abra here, as its benchmarks are more reliant on being at 100%

The EV distribution is to focus on ensuring the maximum offensive output from Abra with the leftover EVs in Defense for bulk. Calm Mind and Psychic are its mandatory slots to enable powerful sweeping. Many of the tier's Special Attackers such as Chinchou or Wailmer often find themselves setup bait for Abra, as its natural bulk lets it take hits and boost with Calm Mind to be tankier versus them. Substitute allows Abra to dodge status moves from the likes of Porygon, as well as bring it into Sitrus Berry range against slower targets. Substitute can be used to ensure Abra has a chance to setup without risk of status or damage (or even block Explosion/Self-Destruct) I don't know how to best restructure this, but we don't use ( ). while Encore performs a similar role, albeit usually locking things such as Porygon into the weaker Ice Beam or Recycle to enable Abra's setup.. However, running Hidden Power does come at a cost of making Abra weaker due to having a lower Defense and Special Attack IV stat, meaning it cannot invest EVs into Physical Defense and forcing it to run 240 SpA instead. It maintains the same Spa so its not weaker. Could use frailer. Synchronize also deters Thunder Wave users unless they are faster, making Abra harder to stop after it acquires Calm Mind boosts.

At +2 this set is near unwallable versus the full metagame, KOing even the bulkiest walls like Porygon. This set is susceptible to faster Pokemon such as Voltorb, Elekid and Diglett.

There is now more Defense EV investment, which allows it to no longer fear Earthquake from Offensive Diglett after it has set up using Calm Mind. Calm Mind and Psychic are key for Abra to setup and sweep mid-to-late game. Substitute and Encore do similar things as the Offensive set, forcing setup opportunities with less risk to Abra. Thief is preferred here as it can heal Abra after chip damage is taken by stealing opposing Sitrus Berries, which makes it harder to revenge kill, while also providing it coverage for opposing Abra.

This set notably fails to secure immediate KOs that the offensive set achieves. Unboosted, this set fails to usually kill Doduoat full health. At +2, Porygon is a 50% roll to KO from full, while bulky Wailmer can comfortably lives. tank with its as the +2 is a 2HKO. While Thief does deter their longevity, Abra still has to be wary of Thunder Wave and Self-Destruct from these premier walls if it lacks Substitute. As this set generally doesn't runHidden Power Water, it also fears Houndour which 1v1s it otherwise.

The bulky set in particular also appreciates Hidden Power Water on teams with less support against Houndour, albeit has to run more bulk due to lowered IVs, meaning it invests less in Special Attack. Mention the exact spread with HP Water on bulky Abra. We'll talk in qc chat about what we end up deciding it to be, theres two options dropping the Spa or Def Another option is Barrier Abra, which at lead can safely setup without fear of trappers coming in later and live an Explosion from Pineco while setting up Calm Mind.

Add Screens and Thunder Wave to oo
Checks and Counters
===================
**Houndour**: As mentioned before, Houndour is the single biggest deterrent to both sets. Pursuit will KO through +1 versions of both sets if forced to switch. 13 SpDef Houndour can take an unboosted Hidden Power Water and KO back with Crunch. Crunch also KOs +1 SpDef Abra when not running Hidden Power.. Without Hidden Power Water on the Offensive set, this is a threat that needs to be scouted for accordingly before setting up to sweep.

**Diglett and Trapinch**: Specially Defensive Diglett is a reliable Offensive Abra check, as it comfortably traps non Hidden Power Water sets and revenge kills them. Diglett does requires Spikes chip or some other form of damage on the Bulky set to trap and KO. It is generally recommended to scout the Abra first before revenge killing, especially if the Abra has Sitrus Berry from full health still available. Trapinch is can tank an unboosted Psychic and KO back Offensive Abra with Earthquake, or use Quick Attack to pick off weakened Abras. Trapinch does require a bit more offensive investment to guarantee the KO on Bulky Abra, but the roll tends to be in the trapper's favor.

**Explosion/Self-Destruct**: Specially Defensive Wailmer and Voltorb can threaten Abra lacking Subsitute with Self-Destruct and Explosion respectively.

**Doduo**: Choice Band Doduo can pick apart slightly weakened Abra with Quick Attack can revenge lower health Abra particularly after Sitrus is lost. Bulky Abra users should also note Psychic is a low roll to KO Doduo from full health.

**Duskull**: For both sets, Duskull can beat the Abra even after +1 Calm Mind and KO back with Shadow Ball.

**Spikes**: Abra must be wary of Spikes, as it often puts Abra in range for easy trapping and KOing. The Abra user has to often play around it and time their Sitrus Berry to guarantee the full health range that makes Abra's setup qualities shine. The bulky Abra set in particular has to be more wary, as full health is required for living benchmarks such as Earthquake from trapper Diglett.

[OVERVIEW]
Abra boasts some of the highest Special Attack and Speed stats in LC, making it a top tier offensive threat. Its strong special attack set (do you mean movepool?) allows it to be a threatening setup sweeper that cleans up teams mid-to-late game with Calm Mind. (mention abras weaknesses here as well, its extremely low defense, how its vulnerable to houndour without hp water, etc)

[SET COMMENTS]
The EV distribution is to focus on ensuring the maximum offensive output from Abra with the leftover EVs in Defense for bulk. ("for bulk" doesn't tell the reader anything, give a relevant example) Calm Mind and Psychic are its mandatory slots to enable powerful sweeping. (doesn't need to be explained) Many of the tier's Sspecial Aattackers such as Chinchou or Wailmer often find themselves setup bait for Abra, as its natural bulk lets it take hits and boost with Calm Mind to be tankier versus them. (remove fluff, instead point out how once abra is set up it is very difficult to stop. also bulky wailmer also 2HKOes with eq so idk if i would call it "setup bait") Substitute allows Abra to dodge status moves from the likes of Porygon, as well as bring it into Sitrus Berry range against slower targets. Substitute can be used to ensure Abra has a chance to setup without risk of status or damage (or even block Explosion/Self-Destruct) (combine the subsitute stuff into one sentence and make encore its own sentence, also brackets aren't used in analyses so try to find a different way to phrase that part) while Encore performs a similar role, albeit usually locking things such as Porygon into the weaker Ice Beam or Recycle to enable Abra's setup.. Encore can potentially lock Substitute users as well, forcing switches and giving extra opportunities to setup with Calm Mind. (same thing here, combine the encore stuff into one sentence.) Thief provides Abra coverage for opposing Abra, as well as the ability to steal opposing items such as Sitrus, or Salac Berry, after it has consumed its own. Hidden Power Water can be opted over Thief, as it allows Abra to OHKO Houndour at +1, which otherwise would wall it. However running Hidden Power does come at a cost of making Abra weaker due to having a lower Defense and Special Attack IV stat, meaning it cannot invest EVs into Physical Defense and forcing it to run 240 SpA instead.. (remove extra period and if possible can you combine the hp water stuff into one sentence as well.) Synchronize also deters Thunder Wave users unless they are faster, (regardless of how fast a pokemon is it doesnt want to be paralyzed) making Abra harder to stop after it acquires Calm Mind boosts.

At +2 Special Attack this set Abra is near unwallable versus the full metagame, OHKOing even the bulkiest walls like Porygon. This set is susceptible to the three faster Pokemon in the tier that outspeed it: (remove space here) Voltorb, Elekid and Diglett. The former two can Pparalyze Abra, or use Explosion in the case of Voltorb, while Diglett can OHKO with Earthquake after trapping Abra. Specially Ddefensive Diglett sets are also capable of living unboosted Psychics when switching in to trap and revenge kill Abra. Due to this reason, Offensive Calm Mind Abra is recommended to partner with Porygon, as it can take Paralysis from the first two and counter-trap Diglett. (why are you recommending players send in their porygon to get paralyzed when specially defensive diglett beats both these pokemon and is immune to thunder wave? mentioning that porygon is a good partner bc it counter-traps diglett is fine though) Teambuilders are also encouraged to use Chinchou, Diglett and Gastly as partners. Chinchou does not mind most Elekid and Voltorb sets, while Diglett can trap opposing 20 Speed Pokemon and Houndour. Gastly's typing and Levitate also prevent it from being trapped by Diglett, while being immune to Quick Attack from Doduo. (condense this and mention chinchou is a good partner because it has good matchups versus elekid and voltorb. gastly doesn't have very favorable mus into diglett and doduo so i would mention other pokemon that fill those roles better here. also you need to establish that doduo does a lot of damage to abra with quick attack and thats why you want something that covers it)

The EV distribution for this set is to focus on ensuring Abra setups at a steadier pace, trading immediate firepower for longevity. There is now more Defense EV investment, which allows it to no longer fear Earthquake from Diglett after it has set up using Calm Mind. (can you rephrase this to point out that the defense investment allows it to survive diglett coming in to revenge kill it, along with any other relevant interactions) Calm Mind and Psychic are key for Abra to setup and sweep mid-to-late game. (doesn't need to be explained) Substitute and Encore do similar things as the Ooffensive set, forcing setup opportunities with less risk to Abra. (examples? why should i choose one or the other?) Thief is preferred here as it can heal Abra after chip damage is taken by stealing opposing Sitrus Berries, which makes it harder to revenge kill, while also providing it coverage for opposing Abra. (can this sentence be condensed please)

This set notably fails to secure immediate KOs that the offensive set achieves. (mention the benefits of this set and why a team would prefer it over the offensive set, then) Unboosted, this set fails to usually kill Doduoat full health. (not notable enough on its own, are there more OHKOes that the bulky set misses out on?) At +2, Porygon is a 50% roll to KO from full, while bulky Wailmer can comfortably tank with its as the +2 is a 2HKO. (doesn't make any sense, also can you please mention the stat (special attack) and move you are describing (psychic)) While Thief does deter their longevity, Abra still has to be wary of Thunder Wave and Self-Destruct from these premier walls if it lacks Substitute. As this set generally doesn't runHidden Power Water, it also fears Houndour which 1v1s it otherwise. (hidden power water isn't listed on this set) The bulky set is recommended to partner with trappers like Diglett or Trapinch to remove Houndour (mention that houndour is big trouble for this set here.) or chip other walls down. Porygon is another perfect partner, as Pparalysis support can often enable easier setup for Substitute sets which make Abra even more difficult to stop. (point out that its easy for abra to sub on a paralyzed target, this doesn't tell the reader anything) Spikes support from Cacnea, Pineco and or Snorunt additionally help Abra secure KOs (give examples instead of writing fluff that doesn't tell the reader anything) after getting Calm Mind Boosts that it might otherwise need more Special Attack investment for. Duskull is another notable check, as it can tank +1 Psychic from full and OHKO Abra back with Shadow Ball, meaning bringing your own making Houndour to which can beat Duskull is another option as a valuable partner. (are there no other mons that appreciate abra luring the extremely passive duskull in?)

Synchronize is generally preferred to deter status however Inner Focus can be used in very niche instances to avoid Fake Out from the rare Meowth, or avoid a Rock Slide flinch from Diglett. (since we're already in the niche territory of running inner focus, mention that it allows abra to safely use twave vs porygon since it wont trace synchronize. also, put rock slide before fake out, and mention that diglett will rarely click rock slide vs abra and meowth is extremely rare to see at all)

Abra's options of coverage moves means it can run an Elemental Punch like Ice Punch on these sets. (write a sentence that highlights all other options instead of just ice punch)
Thief into Ice Punch beats the specially defensive trapper sets that might otherwise revenge kill Abra. An Elemental Punch Ice or Thunder Punch are options for on the bulky set can to also catch Doduo off-guard as Psychic is generally a low roll to KO when unboosted. (put the % to OHKO instead) Fire Punch also beats the uncommon Magnemite that the bulky set in particular cannot KO at +2. (can you mention that fire punch OHKOes magnemite which abra struggles with otherwise, and mention for all punches its difficult to justify the moveslot since each option only hits a few targets. in fact there are so few targets for fire punch you can list them all: mag, egg, cancea lol) The bulky set in particular also appreciates Hidden Power Water on teams with less support against Houndour, albeit has to run more bulk due to lowered IVs, meaning it invests less in Special Attack. (i think we came to the conclusion that its better to invest in special attack than bulk, can you get the exact EV spread from Kaboom or reggg and paste it here?) Another option is Barrier Abra, which at lead can safely setup without fear of trappers coming in later and live an Explosion from Pineco while setting up Calm Mind. (point out that barrier abra is most commonly seen as a lead. mention twave and screens as well)

Checks and Counters

**Houndour**: As mentioned before, Houndour is the single biggest deterrent to both sets. Pursuit will OHKO through both Abra sets even at +1 Special Defense versions of both sets if forced to switch. 13 SpDef Special Defense Houndour can take an unboosted Hidden Power Water and OHKO back Abra with Crunch. Crunch also KOs +1 SpDef Abra when not running Hidden Power.. (combine this with the last sentence and no need to mention hp water twice) Without Hidden Power Water on the Offensive set, (mention that the bulky set is unable to ohko with hp water) this Houndour is a threat that needs to be scouted for accordingly before setting up to sweep.

**Diglett and Trapinch**: Specially Ddefensive Diglett is a reliable Ooffensive Abra check, as it comfortably traps non Hidden Power Water sets that aren't running Hidden Power Water and revenge kills them. Diglett does requires Spikes chip or some other form of damage on the Bbulky set to trap and KO. (can you describe the diglett vs offensive abra mu here as well?) It is generally recommended to scout the Abra first before revenge killing, especially if the Abra has Sitrus Berry from full health still available. (this analysis is about abra, not trapinch/diglett) Trapinch is can tank an unboosted Psychic and can OHKO back Offensive (OHKOes bulky abra 62.5% of the time as well) Abra with Earthquake, or use Quick Attack to pick off weakened Abras. Trapinch does require a bit more offensive investment to guarantee the KO on Bulky Abra, but the roll tends to be in the trapper's favor.

**Explosion/Self-Destruct**: Specially Defensive Wailmer (looking at calc both wailmer sets live unboosted psychic from the offensive set) and Voltorb can threaten Abra lacking Subsitute with Self-Destruct and Explosion respectively. (point out that wailmer lives psychic and that voltorb outspeeds)

**Doduo**: Choice Band Doduo can pick apart slightly weakened Abra with Quick Attack can revenge lower health Abra particularly after Sitrus is lost. Bulky Abra users should also note Psychic is a low roll to KO Doduo from full health. (first sentence is confusing to me, just point out that abra needs to be wary of doduo's quick attack after its chipped and then include the %s that quick attack does to both sets. i think its ok to include the psychic low roll comment, but rephrase it to point out that the offensive set always OHKOes and the bulky set prefers a bit of chip damage before going for psychic but has a _% chance to OHKO in the rare event doduo is at full hp)

**Duskull**: For both sets, Duskull can beat the Abra even after +1 it has set up a Calm Mind and OHKOes Abra back with Shadow Ball.

(magnemite should be mentioned here as well even if its an uncommon pick)

**Spikes**: Abra must be wary of Spikes, as it often puts Abra in range for easy trapping and KOing. The Abra user has to often play around it and time their Sitrus Berry to guarantee the full health range that makes Abra's setup qualities shine. The bulky Abra set in particular has to be more wary, as full health is required for living benchmarks such as Earthquake from trapper Diglett. (abra does have problems with spikes but so does just about every other mon in the tier, so its not worth writing about specifically here)

At +2 Special Attack Abra is near unwallable versus the full metagame, OHKOing even the bulkiest walls like Porygon.

The EV distribution for this set is to focus on ensuring Abra setups at a steadier pace, trading immediate firepower for longevity.

This set notably fails to secure immediate KOs that the offensive set achieves, but in exchange for this trade-off it lives trapping from Diglett at full health. At +2 Special Attack, Psychic has a 50% chance to OHKO Porygon from full health while bulky Wailmer almost always survives due to it being a measly 6.3% chance to KO.

An alternative option for the bulky set is to use Hidden Power Water on teams with less support against Houndour, with a different EV spread to ensure it can KO Houndour at +1 Special Attack.

===================

**Magnemite**: Magnemite's Steel typing allow to it to take most Abra attacks even at +2 bar the extremely niche Fire Punch, and win 1v1.
