Metagame Camomons

Hello all, OMPL came to an end and I wanted to share the teams I built during this period. I picked up the tier with the No-Johns Tournament that preceded OMPL and I liked the tier for its apparent liberty in the builder. I think building is one of my favorite part of this game, so this meta fit me well. I tried to keep this short, and did not talk about the teams I built during the No-Johns Tournament, as I found them to be quite underwhelming now that I understand the meta better. I will nonetheless paste all the teams I built in the tier at the end of this post, hoping it can be useful for someone! Now, let's dive into it.

Week 1 - vs jb291 (lose)
:latios: :samurott-hisui: :jirachi: :alomomola: :garchomp: :terapagos-terastal:
I thought AV Doom Desire Jirachi could be a nice Pokemon to build around with a more offensive structure. However, Alomomola is then pressured to keep Jirachi healthy, while needing to provide momentum with Flip Turn, which is probably too much for one Pokemon. Moreover, the team is a bit slow from an offensive build perspective and there is no Pokemon that really appreciates Doom Desire support. Using Choice Band or Black Glasses Samurott-Hisui with Cinderace or Great Tusk support for hazards, as well as a better Choice Scarf user, was probably better. Game-wise, I got farmed by momentum due to my team being quite slow and having no real strong breakers to go with Doom Desire.

Week 2 - vs betathunder (win)
:pincurchin: :iron-moth: :iron-hands: :hatterene: :porygon-z: :iron-jugulis:
I think Electric Terrain teams can be quite powerful, as Pincurchin isn't merely a bot, can be useful with Spikes support, and can spread paralysis or burn with Discharge or Scald. It also allows it to run good typing that compensate its mediocre bulk. Here Iron Moth boosts its Special Attack with the terrain, but I modified this team to get the Speed boost instead, which is better Speed control wise and to prevent easy revenge killing from Zamazenta, Dragapult, Cinderace and the likes. Choice Scarf Porygon-Z is useful as a Speed control outside of Electric Terrain. As for the game, my teams were often quite weak to sun teams, so the opposing team used this to their advantage.

Week 3 - vs DragonPhoenix333 (win)
:glimmora: :clefable: :zamazenta: :latias: :garchomp: :hoopa-unbound:
I think this team might the one I liked the most during this OMPL, probably due to the fat structure and Hoopa-Unbound. Glimmora helps make progress on Pokemon like Slowking-Galar thanks to Corrosion. Mortal Spin can poison Hatterene, which would otherwise bounce your Toxic back... Life Orb Zamazenta takes advantage of chip damages Glimmora and Garchomp can cause, with Hoopa-Unbound's help to remove items and dent Alomomola thanks to its mixed set. Wish Clefable keeps the team healthy while not being a sitting duck, thanks to Life Orb-boosted Thunderbolt and Flamethrower. The game went well, but I think it's mostly due to the lack of Speed control in the opposing team, so Zamazenta and Latias were free to do what they wanted.

Week 4 - vs Clas (win)
:glastrier: :slowking-galar: :hydrapple: :latias: :cinderace: :mew:
I wanted to build around Glastrier, because I saw it as a good Fat / Balance breaker. I preferred it over Iron Hands for the heavier weight, its ability and better special bulk, while I preferred it over Zamazenta for its access to Swords Dance. Looking back at it, Hydrapple would have preferred a fully defensive spread and Glastrier might have been better in a more BO style team with more momentum. Here, it is the only progress maker, which is not the role you want to give it I think. It would prefer to lead turn 1 and start punching holes, which could help a late game cleaner. Water Ghost / Fairy Alomomola should be a good partner. The game went bad as I got farmed (again) by momentum at the start, but KOing Thundurus helped to secure the win.

Week 5 - vs blittius (lose)
:deoxys-speed: :rillaboom: :garchomp: :latias: :ting-lu: :thundurus:
Before starting to describe the team, I must say that here the lose is decorrelated from the team I think, as I played that badly, but sometimes you have a bad week, happens. NP 3 Attacks Deoxys-Speed is a scary Pokemon, but Life Orb is probably better on it, even though there is no Defogger or spinners in this team, because you miss a lot of KOs without it. Thundurus + Rillaboom help in finding opportunities for Deoxys-Speed, while having a good synergy together, as Thundurus takes advantage from the grassy terrain and can take care of Flying Steel Pokemon for Rillaboom. Garchomp and Ting-Lu provide good hazards support to help the offensive core. CM Latias can clean late game and has a great defensive typing.

Week 6 - vs Mossy Sandwich (lose)
:jirachi: :hatterene: :dragapult: :arcanine-hisui: :slowking-galar: :great-tusk:
Ah yeah, I forgot about Garganacl this week so I ended up getting 6-0ed... The team is thus not good, because you cannot be 6-0 by such a common Pokemon. However, I think the idea of a Paraspam with Choice Band Arcanine-Hisui was not that bad.

Week 7 - vs The Hisui Region (lose)
:volcanion: :scizor: :hatterene: :latios: :ting-lu: :cinderace:
Fire is a type you rarely find in SV Camomons, so having an offensive Fire core can be deadly for many teams and that's why I wanted to build around this. Looking back at it, I think Scizor might not be a good addition to the team. I could see it being replaced by Weezing-Galar for example. I misplayed the game by not tricking the Choice Scarf on Latios turn 1, or at least by tricking it after Ogerpon was KOed. Also, I should have not let Scizor get knocked off.

Semis - vs jb291 (win)
:slowking-galar: :ogerpon-hearthflame: :weezing-galar: :dragapult: :ursaluna: :latias:
Each week, I thought I needed to have Stealth Rock in my team... but this week I had free will and noticed hazards were not a big deal to lose in this mono boots meta, so I got rid of them. Thus, instead of Great Tusk, I could use Ursaluna which has better special bulk, and access to Guts enabled by Rest + Sleep Talk to click powerful Headlong Rush and Play Rough. Ogerpon-Hearthflame is a good teammate that can pressure Flying Steel Pokemon against which Ursaluna struggles. The rest of the team is pretty basic and I'm overall pretty happy with this team. I also won the week, so it was cool.

Finals - vs Siamato (lose)
:ogerpon-wellspring: :alomomola: :latios: :ting-lu: :great-tusk: :zapdos:

Here come the finals, which my team won! For this, I wanted to play a solid team with which I would be comfortable. I really like this Ogerpon set which is another Ground Fairy typing as Ursaluna in semis. It counters Alomomola, can setup on Lati@s depending on their typing, especially on Choice Scarf Dragon Water / Electric Latios, is not revenge killed that easily and has access to Synthesis to further boost its longevity. It also seemed to have a good MU against what Siamato could bring. All in all, I'm also really happy with this team. I also wanted to play Zapdos since the beginning, and it was the first structure where I thought that it could shine. I lost in finals against stall, but I think I defended myself well. I knew that some Gliscor could be hard to deal with after I built this team, but you cannot cover everything.

Builder drop

Here is my entire builder since I picked up the tier: gen9camomons builder. Feel free to use the teams however you like! Before going to the shoutous, I must say I liked the team featuring Clawitzer, because of the raw power this Pokemon has. Here is the paste. Cyclizar and Landorus-T form a good defensive backbone that cover many threats, and they can afterwards give the momentum to one of the breakers.

Shoutouts

I already wrote a message on team chat, but I reiterate my thanks to Akira and Gimmicky for drating me and a super enjoyable team to compete with! Also, special thanks to pyu fififlutters and Nakoruru_XD for test games and help in the camo chat. Finally, thank you Siamato for your advices and test games during OMPL and the No-Johns Tournament. It was easier to understand the tier and build with your help. Overall, I'm glad I came back to play competitive Pokemon with this tier. I found it enjoyable!

Hello guys! We hope you had a nice summer and that your return to school/work went well! With OMCL around, your Camo council is also back at work again! Here's our plans:

  • VRs update. Those haven't been updated since the end of OMPL and we're willing to make some small changes to picture better the metagame and its evolution. However, this will likely not be a full voting session as we feel like metagame felt rather stable and only few changes did happen.
  • Sample teams update. Samples are now older than OMPL so we will remove some of them to put more recent ones. Thanks to those like Maxomega who posted their teams here and, for the rest of you, it's still not too late to submit a sample here or in Camo Discord!
  • Role compendium update. This one is quite old now so a fresh coat of paint wouldn't hurt!
  • Mini survey: Before OMCL, we want to gauge again how you guys feel about the current metagame to see if we should ban/unban some things before OMCL. This will come soon!

But the main event will be a tournament hosted by your council in the Camomons discord!! The tournament will be a BO3 between:
  • SV Camomons: Showcase your skills in regular Camomons for OMCL managers to add you in their draftplan?!
  • Champions Camomons: Finally time to try out new megas?! Get ready with your Golisopod getting rid of its Bug type or Garchomp Z having a secondary STAB!
  • NatDex Camomons: We know you love this one for its diversity so... Time for some amazing mons like Zeraora, Tapu Lele, Victini, etc to return to the forefront for another dance!
So come now in the Camomons Discord for this small but fun tournament and explore with us all this freedom we have in Camomons! Tournament signups will end on <t:1791777600:f> so don't be late! (this is a small tournament again so we don't expect so many signups and want to start asap so you can send replays to OMCL managers in order to tryout).

We'll keep you updated when everything will be up to date! Have a good day! :blobuwu:
