Can Metagross make an effective lead?

I'm thinking about using Metagross as my lead. This is mostly due to the fact that I don't really have room for a leadish lead in my party, and Metagross is the only one who can use Stealth Rock, which I wanted to try to include.

I guess I was thinking something along the lines of...

Metagross
@ life orb? leftovers? (no choice band due to stealth rock.. which would lock, right?)
clear body
adamant
252 hp / 232 attack / 16 defense / 8 speed (stolen from analysis board)
__mv1: Meteor Mash / Explosion(?)
__mv2: Earthquake
__mv3: Bullet Punch
__mv4: Stealth Rock

Hm. I don't know, what do you guys think? Is there a tried and true lead build for Metagross? Does he work out okay? How's this one look?

=)

Weavile is one of the most popular leads, and a Metagross lead counters him well. He also doesn't mind lead Intimidates (though Salamence forces you to switch out). But yeah, Metagross is a fine lead.

Metagross can lead, but he should NEVER stealth rock.
He already has so many moves but still only 4 slots.

Here is the set that I use on my Metagross. It takes care of a lot of stuff.

Metagross @ Focus Sash
Meteor Mash
Ice Punch
Bullet Punch
Earthquake

Ice Punch is for Dragons, flyers, grasses and grounds, Meteor Mash for Rocks and ices, Earthquake for other steels, Fires, Electrics, and Poisons. Focus Sash ensures that you survive to get your attack off (this is especially nice against opponent fire types). If by some strange chance they still live, Bullet Punch finishes them off.

Now you've got a 1hp Metagross left against the next opponent. Since you already know that you are dead, Bullet Punch at least makes sure that any Focus Sashs that they might have had are taken care of before you go.

I don't like to take chances. I once faced a Tyranitar that had more speed and attack then my Metagross (I could tell that the Ttar was ev and iv trained). It would have won had it not been for my focus sash saving me from the ko. This also comes in handy against other Metagrosses or fire types. Metagross can definitely take some physical hits, but it doesn't like those special ones. Stab flamethrower is usually game over.

well, if you're going to use focus sash try this:

Metagross*Focus Sash
Agility
Thunder Punch
Meteor Mash
Earthquake

Agility on the attack that would KO you and start sweeping. Thunder Punch deals with Gyrados leads, Earthquake deals with Infernape leads that lack Mach Punch, and Meteor Mash deals alot of dmg. The bad thing is that without any boosting item I doubt you'll KO much if anything and Swampert and Tangrowth can take about anything you dish out and fight back.

Honestly, I was looking at Metagross as a lead pokemon as well. Personally, I'd probably go with something like Thunderpunch/Meteor Mash/Explosion/Pursuit with a Choice Scarf. I dunno maybe Ice Punch or Quake in there. There's a lot of options depending on what you need. I'd go Adamant with max attack and probably 236 evs in speed... that puts you up to 352 which is enough to beat out Gengar leads. Maybe you could drop it down to just enough to beat out Garchomp with the Scarf. Either way, I think Choice Scarf is almost essential to making Metagross a scary starter.
