Can You Play An Instrument?

I can get a tune out of a surprising amount of instruments, thanks to my very musical ear, but I am not really good at any because I have a really short attention span and get bored of playing the same instrument for more than about 3 months.

Been playing the guitar for about ten years now, although I never had guitar lessons, so i'm pretty much self-taught. I've played in quite a few bands/projects with people I know well, but they've never really gone any further then just improvised 'gigs' of about seven 'songs' at a few house parties.

I also play a bit of bass guitar as my dad also plays bass. He pretty much forced the bass onto me about five years ago, while he was teaching me a bit about guitar theory. Also played bass for my dad's band while he was recovering from a broken wrist. Decided that bass wasn't for me after that, just found it much less exciting then playing guitar.

Can also play very basic things on the drums and keyboard. I've not really got any intentions to get better at these two either as they just seem inferior to guitar when i'm playing them.

I can somewhat play the panpipes and andean flute. I used to kick ass but now I can't remember anymore.

Been playing piano for about 8 years now, good you ask? Well, that's based on the listener =p

I've won competitions if that merits anything.

I use to be able to play an Indian Instrument called the tabla (two drum-like instruments) when I was younger. I'm a little rusty at it now.

Viola since I was 9 and going to school for it kinda (composition but I still have to take performace classes), dabble with some bass, piano, accordian, bassoon, tenor sax

I've been playing violin since I was 5 (I'm 19 now). Played in the school orchestra during the first half of 6th grade (family moved to a school district without an orchestra program during the latter half), also got first chair, first violin in All Regional Orchestra during the former half. It was arguably the happiest day of my life... I think I also got a medal or two for solo ensemble, if I recall correctly. After the move, I just continued studying under private teachers, and participated in a significantly less amount of competitions due to a lack of support for the strings. I made Regionals again during my sophomore year in high school, but I forget which chair it was. And during my first year at Virginia Tech I took lessons and played in the symphony, but I think I'm withdrawing from symphony this coming year.

Yup, it's a long one.

I'd really like to learn cello sometime, though.

i play tuba for school/career, and am just as good at trombone, and slightly worse at trumpet. on the side i play guitar and keys (digital keyboard with piano/hammond/clavinet/rhodes/etc vsts), and a few instruments that i can't really play but just keep around, like theremin and snare drum.

currently i am brushing up my guitar skills, for a couple of reasons, one being my interest in americana, roots and folk-rock. i might go electric, but not unless i find the cash to actually get a quality guitar, amp and effects. because if i go electric, it would just be so i can rock people's faces off with walls of feedback.

I'm relatively proficient at the violin and viola (last truly classical pieces I played were Carmen Fantasie and Sibelius, but the former was a bit over my head...now I mostly do electronica, jazz, and country shut the fuck up, with them), and am decent at four string mandolin/mandocello. I also try to play classical guitar but I don't know any of the theory and I am pretty lousy in general. This is applicable to piano as well.

EDIT: Oh yeah, my grandfather taught me the er-ching, but that is a shit instrument IMHO so fuck that sorry grandpa.

im fair at guitar (both acoustic and electric) and also piano (composed my own 16 bar melody which isn't that great)

I play guitar, and have for about 3 years but I'm pretty terrible at it. It doesn't matter too much though because I play in a shitty punk band and our songs pretty much consist of 4 chord riffs - yay!

I played Violin from when I was 7 until I was 13 but gave up because I couldn't bear to hear myself play - enough said. I also played Piano for about 4 years but ended up giving up, and now the only thing I can remember is the first page of Fur Elise. I can't even remember how to read music anymore :-/

Carmen Fantasie is a beautiful piece...

I used to play the piano, but not anymore. I dont remember the notes but my fingers still adapt to the movement. But now i play the guitar.

I play sax for my band at school and would say I am pretty good at it. I've been taking lessons over the past year, and they've really helped me along in my playing abilities. I am able to play all 4 types of sax: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Baritone.

Played piano since like 2nd grade. I never practice, but its definitely my favorite instrument to play.

Played Alto Sax in the school band for 2 years, and played a little bit with the Tenor Sax as well (although its practically the same thing playing-wise).

Also in the advanced choir of 20 kids at my school. Singing isn't technically an instrument, but its a musical something.

I can play the [alto] saxaphone. I've been playing for about three years now.

Also, in the past, I've played the oboe, piano and guitar; I no longer practise them today. Oboe was really hard to play, I found; tricky to get used to the double reed. I never really managed to get used to it. As for the other two: well, I just didn't enjoy them much after a couple years of trying each (at diffrent times, of course).
