WIP

Vulkalisk

combination of Vulkan the Roman god of fire and a basilisk which the design seems based off of

Ponounced- VulK-Ah-Lis-K

WIP

Chateclast

Chameleon + Pyrotechnic (related to fireworks, also works with ability) + Pyroclastic [Flows] (dangerous avalanches of burning ash) (Final result somewhat resembles Cataclysm, as a volcanic eruption is)

Pronounced: CAT - ECK - CLAST

WIP

Magmander

Magma (the obvious pick for Fire/Ground, being literally heat-molten rock) + Salamander (Fiery mythological lizard, as well as a type of generic lizard resembling the design)

Pronounced: mug-MAHN-der

WIP

Basaltisk

Pronunciation: BA-sul-tisk
IPA: <ˈbæsɪlɪsk>

Combining the words "basalt", volcanic matter, and "basilisk", the lizard monster, gets you a Pokemon's name that is simple like a starter's. However, unlike my other two subs, mispronouncing it makes it sound weird. BA-sul-tisk sounds much better than ba-SAL-tisk.

Velavaraptor

Velociraptor +Lava.

Turfuel

Turf + Fuel. I like this one better. Turf is a synonym for ground, and fuel is one element of the fire triangle required for fire to actually take place.

WIP (1/3)

Magmoloch

"Magma" + "Moloch"

Pronounced: "Mag - Mol - Och"

One thing we don't get locally are lizards. Borrowed a friend from the antipodes for this one :P
(It's not as if Greninja's "Gre" makes much sense...)

---

WIP (2/3)

Vesuviguana

"Vesuvius" + "Iguana"

Pronounced: "Veh - Soo - Vee - Guar - Na"

Starter names do enjoy being ridiculously complex. A simple portmanteau of our favourite volcano, and a reasonably close lizard.

Actually that stems from 'grenouille' which is the French word for frog, especially given that Kalos is the European region in general. At least as far as I know, lol.

Also I admit to thinking of Iguana + Igneous, rip

WIP (2/3)

Scorchelos

Comes from 'scorch' and the genus 'chelosania' - host to the Chameleon dragon, a species of lizard native to Australia. Also it sounds pretty epic, at least to me. :)

WIP

Igneleon

"igneous" + "chameleon"

Pronounced: "ig-NEE-lee-uhn"
IPA: ɪɡniːliːʊn

It's a volcano-based chameleon, and igneous rock is strongly associated with volcanoes.

Inphryno

"inferno" + "phrynosoma"
Phrynosoma (horned lizards) is a species of lizards that tend to live in arid climates like deserts.

Pronounced: "in-fre-no"
IPA: ɪnˈfrɛnːnəʊ

(2/3)
Meltilisk
"melt" + "basilisk"

Pronounced: "mel-TEA-lisk"
IPA: mɛltɪ.lɪsk

Might use molt for my final submission, can't decide yet

Lavalisk

From "lava" + "basilisk"; bonus points for alliteration

Pronunciation: LAH-vuh-lihsk

Well, shoot: just looked it up and "Lavalisk" is a World of Warcraft creature.
Here's another WIP:

Basaltrice

From "basalt" + "cockatrice"

Pronounced bah-SAUL-trihs or BAH-saul-trihs

Clastodon

"Clastic" + "Mastodon"

Pronounced: CLAS-tuh-don

Clastic: n. denoting rocks composed of broken pieces of older rocks. Also see "pyroclastic flow", the fast moving discharge of superheated gas from a volcanic eruption.
