Next up is stats!
  • When submitting stat spreads for CAP 34 pre-evos, you must submit spreads for both stages.
  • When submitting stat spreads, make sure to follow the final submission template below!
  • When voting, your stat spreads for each stage will be voted on together.
You have 72 hours to make your final submissions.

For reference, here are our stats for Chuggalong:

45 HP / 43 Atk / 117 Def / 120 SpA / 110 SpD / 115 Spe

Final Submission

Stage 1: 20/22/57/45/50/78 (272)

Stage 1 is obviously turtle-like, similar to Chewtle. The fastest turtle mon introduced is Blastoise's 78 Speed, so that's what we're going with.

Stage 2: 40/43/107/90/100/95 (475)

The main inspiration I've elected to go with is the Dusknoir line as a base reference. It's why Stage 2 has similar bulk, even if its offensive power isn't quite as strong; considering that it does resemble more of Chuggalong itself, it felt fitting.

Stage 1: 30 HP/23 Atk/77 Def/55 SpA/65 SpD/30 Spe (BST: 280)

I leaned into its defenses because Chuggalong's defensive stats are already rather high and because it's a turtle. Similarly, I made it slow because turtles are generally known for being slow. Some might say that goes against the train flavor but the first stage is just one car, and a single train car isn't going to move much without the actual front of the train. 280 is close to first stages like Nacli, Mareep, Slakoth, Litwick, Sandile, Trapinch and Fletchling for examples that are apart of three stage lines, all of those are mons that fit the early to mid game range in terms of when you can catch them and that's kinda what I envision for this little guy, not super early but not late game.

Stage 2: 40 HP/33 Atk/92 Def/95 SpA/80 SpD/85 Spe (BST: 425)

This stage looks a lot more like Chuggalong so I moved its stats close to being like Chuggalong's. Tbh I don't feel like I need to explain much here, it's all pretty standard stuff that just smooth the transition between the first stage and Chugga. The only stats that see a major increase are Speed which is just a result of me having the first stage be slow and Sp.Attack which is because of the second stage looking more vicious and angry than the first. 425 BST is just above a lot of starter and psudeo middle stages which fall at 420 and right below some of the higher end middle stages like Virgoroth and Chancey.

Stage 1: 19/17/80/40/60/29 (BST: 245)

Some of the stats may look a little low here, but I feel like Chuggalong would be one of those Pokemon that really isn't strong unless you stick with it for the final evolution like Togekiss (my main inspiration for the spreads), so the stats here are kinda "useless on purpose". This puts the first stage in line with mons like Zubat and Togepi, similarly "bad" first stages.

Stage 2: 28/34/105/80/100/58 (BST: 405)

Keeping with the theme of the mon not being that great until its final evo, the middle evo has a pretty low BST compared to its final form. It then has a big jump up to its current 550 BST, rewarding you for sticking with the train! This puts the middle stage in line with mons like Togetic and starter middle stages, which all tend to be pretty meh before the final evo. I don't think the mon looks very fast yet, so I kept the Speed low.

WIP:

Stage 1: 25 HP / 23 Atk / 67 Def / 50 SpA / 65 SpD / 45 Spe (BST: 275)

Stage 2: 35 HP / 33 Atk / 92 Def / 90 SpA / 90 SpD / 85 Spe (BST: 425)

Loosely inspired by the Horsea line. I'll add more when I get back from work.

Final Submission

Stage 1: 30 HP / 33 Atk / 77 Def / 65 SpA / 70 SpD / 45 Spe (BST: 330)

First stage is a little turtle guy, so I went for high defenses and low everything else. Duskull and Magnemite were referenced loosely for the BST and defensive spread.

Stage 2: 35 HP / 63 Atk / 77 Def / 100 SpA / 70 SpD / 95 Spe (BST: 440)

Defenses are the same as the first stage, everything else just goes up. Went for a more "aggressive" spread here with relatively high offensive stats and comparatively mediocre defenses. I also gave this stage a higher attack stat than Chuggalong to emphasize the way it mellows out as it evolves. The drastic increase in speed and the equal defensive stats is due to the second stage growing into its "shell", no longer being burdened by it. The overall spread also takes slight inspiration from Fraxure.

General BST for these two is based around other powerful 3-stage dragons, namely the Axew line and the Frigibax line. Plus, I found that a 330 -> 440 -> 550 progression was nice and clean while not being too drastically implausible.

Stage 1: 35 HP / 33 Atk / 77 Def / 60 SpA / 70 SpD / 45 Speed (BST 300)

It's just a little turtle as everyone as has said. I see it remaining tanky, but being slow, and not particularly offensive. I think 300 is a solid starting BST, on the more powerful side for a 3-stage but considering how imposing Chuggalong is I think it's fine.

Stage 2: 45 HP / 63 Atk / 97 Def / 80 SpA / 90 SpD / 65 Speed (BST 420)

I really don't see this as very fast so decided to keep it much more on the tanky side of things. The ankylo tail also gives me a higher Atk stat that can drop upon evolution. An overall low BST is also quite nice as I think it more naturally progresses up to the powerful Chuggalong.

WIP

Stage 1: 35 HP / 33 Atk / 117 Def / 50 SpA / 40 SpD / 35 Speed (BST 310)

3 stage Dragon type lines are almost exclusively reserved to the pseudo-legendary subcategory, which always leads into a 600 BST Dragon, with usually somewhat powerful pre-evo's to compensate. To diverge from this, I took heavy inspiration from the Flygon line, with it's Defense stat at it's evolutionary peak during it's first stage, while the rest of the stats catch up as the train starts chugging along. It does somewhat differ from that line, with the stat not dropping down with the second stage, but this offers a very interesting defensive behemoth and offers an interesting buildup.

Stage 2: 40 HP / 38 Atk / 117 Def / 80 SpA / 70 SpD / 85 Speed (BST 430)

Statline continues with a large bump in stats, but once again keeping the large defense stat. I personally see Stage 2 as being quite fast already so 85 speed seemed appropriate, given the large transition from moving from a 4 legged turtle to a steam engine. I decided to keep a higher SpA over SpD for the whole line to keep it consistent, while having HP and attack climb by 5 for 1->2->3. Particularly liked the consistent 120 BST growth from 310->430->550 as well.

Final Submission:

Stage 1: 25 HP / 23 Atk / 67 Def / 60 SpA / 65 SpD / 55 Spe (BST: 295)

Stage 2: 35 HP / 33 Atk / 92 Def / 95 SpA / 90 SpD / 95 Spe (BST: 440)

Stat spread is loosely based on the Horsea line, since Kingdra has almost the same BST as Chuggalong, and like Chuggalong, its best stats are fairly balanced across the board (though Kingdra has much more balanced stats overall compared to Chuggalong). The first stage has the same BST as Horsea, and the second stage has the same BST as Seadra. I tried to keep the stat increases relatively constant across the entire line, with the exception of the large jump in Speed between the first and second stages, which somewhat mirrors the large jump in Special Defense from Seadra -> Kingdra. The first stage has slightly better bulk since it's a turtle, and the second stage has slightly better Special Attack and Speed due to it becoming a lizard.
