In its thirty-seventh process, I truly believe that the CAP project has outdone itself. This was my first time in the metaphorical driver's seat, and while there were some roadbumps, we have finally reached our destination with the 1.0 release of the newest CAP! We've created a Pokemon that is mechnically interesting and challenges some of our deep-rooted conventions around approaching conditional moves and item control, and it looks very badass doing it to boot. Some shoutouts are in order: thank you so much to my TLT of Da Pizza Man, dex, a fairy, and viol and bass for holding down the fort during a process that was, at times, turbulent. DPM and dex, I've pretty much come up in the CAP community reading y'all's quality contributions, and it was an honor to collaborate on what I consider to be my magnum opus on the site. a fairy and Vile, it's been great seeing your contributions in the past and it's been equally great seeing you rise to the occasion that is TLT'ing in the CAP process. I truly couldn't have done it without all of you. Beyond that, I want to thank every single person who contributed in any way, shape, or form to CAP37: CAP is a democratic process and, regardless of what we might disagree on, the more people who cogently speak their mind, the better. I sincerely hope this community can carry the momentum of an incredible process into the rest of our endeavors this generation, whatever they may be.

Now let's cut to the chase. I present to you CAP37:

Kudos to the TLT and all contributors on an amazing process!

We had so many rich discussions, and it was amazing to witness Obliteryx take shape condensing all these ideas. I actually feel like I know a lot more about what goes into conditionality in Pokémon after it, and hope to learn more from playing it in battles. Let's keep PEAK Blasting!

as an onlooker, I think this process has made a very interesting pokemon that really explores its concept well, and didn't have any missed opportunities (as opposed to one firey ram). plus, having a mon run both a positive and negative priority move is just super unique (and I hope will occasionally lead to super nuclear one-two punches)

I also really liked participating in art subs this time around! regardless of my final placement, simply seeing other people express that they liked my guy really made me proud, and I really enjoyed giving criticism and praise to other subs too! :D

here's to CAP38 being another process with no DQ's and a hilarious -1!

Was pretty fun to get a bit involved in the CAP process and learn some stuff about it this time instead of mostly watching from the outside as I generally do. For 38 let's hope life doesn't keep me too busy and i can try to be a little more involved throughout the process, CAP is awesome

Obliteryx is cool as hell, awesome name and design, and I look forward to seeing it blast its beak all over the place. Shoutout to "evil red judas" the mollux as well

Had some involvement in the process, and overall, I feel pretty happy with this outcome. Very interesting design both in terms of background flavour and competitive application. The one thing I would say is that analytic obliteryx does mean that you aren't restricted to beak blast utility sets which is a pro or con depending on how you look at the concept.

This CAP process has been a huge pleasure to be a part of. Huge kudos to Flax for being an incredibly helpful and grounded guiding force through occasionally murky waters, and many thanks to the rest of the TLT for their advice & collaboration throughout this thing. Massive thanks as well to everyone who has contributed.

In some ways this has been a bit of a weird CAP for me to dip my toes into TLT. I'm usually really big on concept adherence, but this was a process where concept adherence was never strongly in question. When the concept (simplistically) boils down to using a move successfully, there can be a risk of a lack of direction. I feel like this was mitigated to a decent extent by our move of choice, in part because Beak Blast carried surprisingly heavy implications for our build: we have to tank hits to get the move off, we probably want to hit hard so it's not just a situational Will-O-Wisp, negative priority means we may not get a lot out of super high speed, Beak Blast forces switches which we may want some way to punish, and on and on. This is in addition to the direction provided by us trying to emphasize specifically the conditional aspect of our chosen move. Beak Blast wasn't my first choice, but in the end I think it was the correct one here in terms of providing clarity and a path forward.

We were in a good place throughout basically this entire process in terms of both general strength and concept adherence, which legitimately caught me a bit off guard and meant at times the conversation was more around "wants" than "needs". I'm not sure how to feel about that overall– it's such a strong contrast to the previous process that it feels a bit like whiplash (you can see traces of this in the primary ability stage where my initial questions were probably overly centered around current problems / holes we need to patch). I think the lack of pressing needs can make both leading a stage and achieving community consensus harder– this may have contributed a bit to our "bumps in the road", but at the same time there are benefits to having options and not having your hand forced.

Anyway, being on TLT has been a (beak) blast and I totally recommend applying for people who have the time and are interested in giving it a shot. I love the process of thinking through complicated questions as a community, but leadership doesn't come super naturally to me, so it's really nice to have a team that can help you work through things and support you. It hasn't been universally smooth sailing, but I have enjoyed the hell out of it and I'm super proud of the badass and unique mon we have created (and are continuing to create with full movepool etc.). Bird up

Can we remove the ai slop at the end?

Anyways, awesome job as usual to the TLT. Everything came together pretty easily after our move was chosen - our typing was picked in a landslide vote, our ability also won by a huge margin, and our moveset was basically common sense. Rarely do we have such levels of consensus throughout a project, so kudos to the TLT for guiding us there. And for moments where consensus was more split - stakeout, secondary ability, etc - it always felt more about “wants” than “needs,” as vile said. It was nice not having to deal with constant worries about viability or concept success. Super cool mon :) nice work everyone

A. If we are to believe this is a memorial it's kinda insensitive to use it.
B. If this isn't a memorial, we (yes we, you can see the amount of people who liked my post) don't want it here because it uses computer rendered artificial pictures

Despite some initial skepticism regarding the dissonance between Obliteryx's appearance and the stat spread the community picked for it, my complaints about that have largely simmered down and are more or less irrelevant anyway. Try as I might, I continue to fail to make a difference in CAP in any way whatsoever (Chromera's name notwithstanding), but I am content in my having participated in the slates and given my best efforts all the same. And as for Obliteryx itself... Holy flock, man! This bad boy (or girl) is now my all-time favorite addition to the CAP roster, and from what I've seen from the sidelines, the process for its creation came together quite beautifully in every way possible! I wholeheartedly adore the design itself both on its own and due to pterosaurs being my all-time favorite family among animals both living and extinct, the name it received is utterly glorious and so fun to say, and from what I've gathered from the potential competitive discussions I have a feeling it's going to become an absolute "pterror" in the virtual skies of the Showdown servers - exactly as nature intended. I for one cannot wait for the part where Obliteryx goes "It's Obliterin' time!" and obliterates everything!

That's the first CAP that I saw growing from the start (even if I didn't help much in the end), and it turned out fantastic!
It's just a lil' smaller than I thought... this thing looks like it's 4 meters tall (around 13 feet iirc) and to be weighting atleast 300 kilos (around 660 lbs iirc), ngl it feels a little weird for it to be shorter than the average grown man, and the sprite is pretty big for its size too. Also, it's prob based on a Queztalcoatlus, and those are MASSIVE.
By a competitive wiew, this thing doesn't need to worry much of grass knot and low kick so I think it would be fine.
I don't mean it needs to get bigger, just felt it would've felt more menacing, and this desing looks pretty menacing imo
EDIT: nm it's a pterosaur mbad

I know i previously suggested Steel/Flying as its typing, but i genuinely think now that dark/flying was better now,Obliteryx is honestly one of the most interesting cap mons made, the fact it can essencially access deny setup,go full power with analytic, also the fact its defensive enough a defensive set would unironically be great for it. all in all this pokemon will probably be relevant in the cap metagame.

What a great CAP to have had my swing at TLT on. Thanks to the rest of the team for helping me during later stages when IRL took over pretty heavily, and trusting me to be the first of the team up to swing. Very cool to see Obliteryx come to life from conversations about the typing all the way to the final conversations about whether Focus Punch is legit or not (and more yet to come I'm sure!). Thank you all for having me, excited for whatever comes next - what an experience to be TLT for what was to be the final Gen 9 CAP only to discover mid-process that WiWa isn't coming out for another year or so. Whether the next one is Gen9 or Gen10, I'll be sure to be there, continuing to provide alternative pathways forward we can mostly disregard :P

First CAP I've seen from the start, and I already love the process. I know a lot of people have already said this, but I don't think Obliteryx could be any better. The design is terrifying, the typing, the stats, the niche... it all comes together beautifully. I can't wait to start building with Obliteryx- and, most of all, carrying on into the flavour polls (I love flavour polls.)
Can't say I've really done anything, but hey, that's what the next CAP is for ;). Great work everyone!
