CAP 38 - Art Submissions

Final Submission
Venus 38 (downsized)_20261015081043.png

The birth of Venus painting (where she emerges from an oyster)
The Woman/Venus of Willendorf (a clay figure depicting the ideal woman of ancient history)
The Venus Flytrap (The most recognizable carnivorous plant)
The Planet Venus (Mostly in that it rains acid & has ties to space for both the Poison type & Meteor Beam)
The poisoned apple from snow white (given as a gift from a "kind old woman" only to put her to sleep)
The idea of making a design based on the birth of Venus, where the oyster was instead a Venus flytrap & Venus herself was a lure to attract prey came to me after seeing art of a mimic princess, and immediately I knew vaguely what I wanted to draw.
After Flower Veil was decided as our ability, it was pretty easy to implement. Just put flowers in the maw of the flytrap, which really helps in selling the allure of the false creature. It's like a moving scenery of someone standing in a field of flowers.
As for the apple elements, when Apple Acid was being discussed as a possible defining move, Sgt.Moose jokingly said "Quick, everyone! Draw an apple!" And a couple of people drew and apple on top of their designs, me included. But after making a joke piece, it clicked to me. The actual Venus part of the design was rather lacking conceptually, sort of just being a tongue, so adding in one more element to the design to not only make it look more poison-y but also adding another layer to the "kindly sweet creature is actually a trap for a much bigger creature" with the poisoned apple from snow white, as well as making it look more like the woman/Venus of Willendorf statue proportions wise. And on the back of the design is the astrological sign of the planet Venus, a planet that constantly rains acid, also helping in justifying Meteor Beam which is described as "Absorbing space energy"

All in all this was a ton of fun to design, so far my favorite submission I have made for CAP, and I hope you all like it too

I didn't like the older version of this design in hindsight, so I completely redid the concept to hopefully make the visual cues for the typing more legible. Not only does it have clearer foliage and petals, including a fancy eyespot-patterned flower-like frill around its face to better sell the basilisk angle, but its neck now incorporates not only basil florets but also the doll's eye, Actaea pachypoda, which is actually poisonous to people. I also gave it longer legs and a more dinosaurian body shape to better sell the high Speed stat we seem to be going for. I'm much more fond of most of this design, except for the leaf cape and tail which I'm already thinking of combining into a single shape for simplicity. I'll probably get around to that come the next sketch and the linework refinement, but otherwise I think I'm back on track for coloring and then the final submission!
