CAP 4 CAP 4 - Part 1 (Concept Poll 1)

1. Fast Tank
2. Pure Utility

Fast Tank would be sweet, and have a definite niche. Pure Utility would just open the game up a lot I think. I like some of the others, but things like "Great Lead" are really dependent on the state of the CAP metagame...which is in flux.

1. Ultimate Weather Abuser

Weather teams are fun, and this poke concept seems very interesting and fun. If this does get chosen, can't wait to see the change on the server.

2. Pure Utility

There's a lack in any real Utility poke, and when there is one, they sure don't have all those utility moves like Tailwind or Gravity. Would love to see this poke.

1. Pure Utility Pokemon
2. Meteorology

I, personally love utility pokemon, as I find them refreshing from the all out offence some people end up playing (that and in-game, but I digress). And I would really like to see a pokemon who can effectively and unpredictably set up weather effects. It seems like a pokemon who could make a n opponent guess. And, if it matters at all, the runner up here to my current list would be the Gravity poke.

1. Gravity Unit
2.
I know what you're doing and I'm not going to allow it!

Gravity is one of my favorite strategies introduced in D/P.
The other option just sounds like it will be fun to make and use.

1. Skill Swap Abuser
2. No Miss Breaker

I always thought that Skill Swap was an interesting move to use in battle, but I hate that so few can take advantage of it, so something that is more focused on using the attack would be nice.

As for the No Miss Breaker, the idea of using all the most accurate attacks in the game sounds really cool and interesting for possible move sets and can give these interesting moves a much-deserved use.

1. Me First!

2. I know what you're doing and I won't allow it!

I really wish more people would have voted for the 2nd one. The utility of a "scouting" pokemon would be so usefull... I could see everyone wanting to test it out, plus it helps with the "no counters before you know the set" problem.

1. Me first

I've always wanted to see this move with a good pokemon for it.

2. Pure Utility

The metagame will be so different if we make this, I'd like it. =]

1. Pure Utility

We need something like this.

2. Anti-Ghost Rapid Spin.

Again something needed.

and in case of a tie:

3. Me First

Fun concept.
No.
Meteorologist + Ultimate Weather Abuser

I had an interesting idea for a new pokemon.

In order for a pokemon to set-up rain, hail, sand, or sun without being locked into using a all four moves in their movepools, they would need one of two things. First, it could be an ability the pokemon has. Second, it could be a single move that can create the weather. My idea runs off the first.

Think about this:
What if there was a pokemon who created weather when it uses a certain move? Even more interesting, if it could use multiple moves and create multiple types of weather. An ability, that when using a certain attribute move would create a corresponding form of weather.

When it uses flamethrower, the sun shines brightly. When the pokemon uses surf, it begins raining. When the pokemon earthquakes, sand is whipped up. When the pokemon uses blizzard, it doesn't stop. Finally, when it uses a normal attribute move, the weather fades.

This could lead to all kinds of possibilities.
1. A weather controller. This could be a set designed to negate sandstream from tyrannitar or hippowdon using moves which are super-effective. This not only sets up weather, but it sets up the team as well.
2. A choice sweeper. Once a certain move is used, such as flamethrower, the corresponding sunny day increases the power. This is the same for rain. This could make choice band/specs/scarf very viable. The first attack strengthens the second one.

I really like this idea, and it would create a more weather-based metagame, and give all sorts of weather utility to any team. This could be used to take away sand-veil from garchomp while hitting it with a super-effective attack.

Gravity Unit

Since my first choice overlaps, I think I can count it as one. If not, ignore this.
No.

These votes have not been included. Please take the time to re-read the OP and re-post your votes that conform to the rules stated in the op.

I'm sorry I had to do that.

Now, preliminary results. These serve to cut down on the work I have to do tomorow and also allow the discussion to move towards the next poll. Which is, by the way, voting for the winner from the concepts above the line. Keep in mind the concepts "above the line" could change between now and then.

Utility: 70
Spinner: 32
Weather Abuse: 22
Me First: 22
Garchomp Counter: 19
Lead: 16
Gravity: 15
Stat Buster: 12

Fast Tank:

Trick Room: 6
Status Counter: 6
No Miss: 5
Meteorology: 5
Item/Status abuse: 3
Armour Breaker: 2
Who stole my wallet?: 2
Skill Swaper: 1
Apologies for using the shorthand versions of the names.

Wow, Utility really rampaged through this thread. My idea got the second most votes.

Really the only difference between Utility and Anti-Ghost Spinner for me is a matter of offense.

Going back to one of my earlier posts, I said the idea in my head was to combine the best elements of Blastoise and Muk. Muk has a movepool with loads of Ghost and Dark moves and insane HP/special defense, Blastoise has good defensive stats a perfect movepool for warding off ghosts defensively.

Essentially I thought the anti-ghost spinner should be able to punish ghosts in an offensive manner, rather than Blastoise's shaky "Mirror Coat Gengar, Toxic Dusknoir/Spiritomb, pray you don't run into McGar or Sub/CM Mismagius" way of doing it.

In other words, if our Utility pokemon had Rapid Spin and some Ghost and Dark moves (that it could actually use proficiently), my concept could be satisfied in the same breath.

If you added the two together, the total would be 102 votes. That is slightly less than all the other high-scoring abilities combined (106 to 102).

That's practically, to use politi-speak: "A mandate by the people."

It's actually not 102 votes, but 102 points.

Right now, there are 84 valid votes in all, with a total of 252 points.

There's about 20 more hours left for voting, too. Still, Utility has got quite a formidable lead already.

( Err, am I late for the voting, or did Sunday simply put up the totals for other purposes? I'll vote anyways just in case )

1. Pure Utility
I really have to go with the majority and say I like the Pure Utility idea. It lends for the production of a very versatile Pokémon as far as creative processes go. It encompasses a lot of the other good ideas that are also here, so I think it makes a lot more sense that way. It's only because of the fact that this concept can do so much that I'm not including the Spinner in my votes --- considering this thing could probably do that, too.

2. Me First
After looking through all the remaining concepts, Me First is the only one I like left. I don't have as much reasoning for it because it's not really my first choice. I'm pretty much putting most of my weight in Pure Utility, as it's the only concept I like besides the ones that would be redundant next to the Utility concept. :/

Oh no trick room has only 7 votes at the moment. well at least utility has 70,

i can't wait to start drawing this thing! I can see it now ground/grass that looks like a grass dugtrio with great defense. I'm sure we can all come up with something better than that though.

This pure utility idea is giving me this "Jack of all trades, Master of none" vibe. I assume that if this idea wins we would started to think on which utility move(s) it should focus on.

1. Anti-Ghost Rapid Spin
2. Trick Room Unit

I have to say I'm so glad Garchomp counter is probably not going to win. Despite the concept conforming to the concept guidelines it is both a very restricting idea creatively and a very fraught one logistically. Anyway.

We NEED an Anti-Ghost Rapid Spinner people! To be fair on the Utility Poke supporters, I think most would agree that for the current OU metagame, Rapid Spin is one of if not the most useful utility moves there is. If that's a given then it's likely the two concepts could be rolled into one. Like Deck Knight says, there's very to divide the two.

Trick Room, Gravity, and Anti-Ghost Rapid Spinner could theoretically be placed into one Utility based mass and work successfully. It depends on how everyone thinks about it.

This is a friendly reminder to everyone that the topic of this poll is the concept. Off-topic posts will not be tolerated. Towards the end of any poll, it is considered acceptable for the discussion to drift into the next poll. Posts that discuss aspects beyond the next poll will be considered off-topic (aka "poll jumping") Since the next poll will be another concept poll, please confine the discussion to the concept. Please do not start detailed discussions of moves, ability, stats, etc -- on the assumption that one of these concepts will win.

If someone else jumps a poll, please do not respond -- as you will be subject to moderation as well.

We have had lots of problems with poll jumping in the past. It derails discussion and makes it confusing for people to understand and follow the CAP process. Specific forum rules have been added to eliminate this problem. I am posting this here as a reminder to those that may not have noticed the updated rules.

Please do not respond to this post either -- since technically, this is an off-topic post. ;-)

1. True Garchomp Counter
I like this because it's something that would be very useful to the metagame, plus there are a lot of fun ways we could go with it. My only worry is that it might be difficult to accomplish in the usual piecewise fasion. I do love a challenge though.

2
.Anti Ghost Rapid Spin
Another good idea that shakes up the metagame in an interesting way. Gives us quite a bit of freedom too.

hey, sunday, you only listed 18 results. one of the missing ones is mine, and I got at least two points. just a heads up.

anyways, utility swept like expected.

Great Lead+Pure Utility

I can imagine a Pokemon that is completely useless offensively, but yet is great for negating Ninjask and Gyarados.

True Garchomp Counter

WE NEED ONE.
