CAP 6 CAP 6 - Part 5 - Ability Discussion

I could se this pokemon get an ablility that makes it immune to Dark attacks (thinking mostly of those fishes living deep down under the water without any sunlight at all) and gives it a Poison weakness, it could be called "Pristine Darkness". The poison weakness would probobly not be so big, because of the rarity of Poison attacks (mostly due to all steel types in OU). Of the top 50 of the most used pkmn on the CAP server during november only three pokemon is of poison type: Fidgit, Gengar and Tentacruel, and I haven't seen any of them use Sludge bomb alot. I could see it get two immunities and become 4x weak to Poison as it would make it more counterable (probobly with alot more not OU pokes) and a good decentralizer of the current metagame.
so you want it to be immune to a type it will already resist and gain a weakness to a type that can already tank it...somehow that doesnt seem like a good idea to me.

edit @all those talking about a psyche up ability- have you considered how bad that could be? matching something like SD or tailglow will do nothing for you unless you can hit first. then theres the possible programming problems, the worst of which would be if those boosts didnt go away.

Unaware seems like a good choice, since quite a few of the top pokes like to stat up.
The Psych Up-like ability that Umbreon Dan mentioned (copies opponent's stat boosts and drops on switch-in) could also be cool for the same reason as Unaware. Maybe it should be called 'Fair Play' or 'Sportsmanship' or something along those lines.
However, I think that watermon should have only 1 ability. It doesn't really need 2.

sounds broken to me; let a salamence DD up a few times bring in this faster CAP pokemon and sweep the opponent.

I would like to suggest Hydration. It fits with the typing and can prove pretty useful. It also gives an incentive to use Rain, boosting one of its STABs and thwarting Heatran STABs which is cool. I also think No Guard and Special Intimidate would be cool, though both are really good abilities.

hydration is a great ability, but if do we really want a defensive water/fightingpoke in ou being able to rest at will? at least with sleeptalker it takes up 2 moves, but with that it can be done by others on the team and it would make kingdra teams that much better.

Well this poke needs to have some counters and I thought that Poison attacks could be fun to involve more in the metagame.
But watermon would probobly need Immunities, but Im not sure if it really needs Dark immunity (it was mostly something I liked the idé of). It could go with any immunity, like Electric, Flying if you want to cover its weaknesses. But still I like the Poison weakness. It would probobly make pokemon like Toxicroak, Roserade and Tentacruel good counters and more common.

Giving it Pressure, maybe as a secondary ability, seems a good fit. It can deplete Heatran's Fire Blast and TTar's Stone Edge PP very quickly by repeatedly switching in; it resists both of them.

Agreed, considering how common stat-uppers are on the CAP Server, it would be better to just ignore the boosts rather than steal them, because it gets no net gain if it beats the stat-upper.

Giving him unaware means that you can do all sorts of support stuff while the opponent thinks hes securing his sweep, then just swap in CAP 6 and you have almost no punishment for giving your opponent so many free turns (maybe you lose the poke, but get all your spikes down and bring in CAP 6, for instance). Just thinking of more reasons why good stats + unaware will rape strategy. There's a reason Bibarel has bad stats.

Here is a more integrated approach to countering Revenankh. Shell Armor + Iron Defense/Psych Up could allow him to keep up with Revvy's bulk ups. Since it seems he'll be faster than Revvy, he'll only have to worry about a once boosted Shadow Sneak (once boosted unless you allow him to get more, but why would you do that?) before you get your defense boost in. This will allow you to wall Bulk Uppers, Cursers, and DD'ers to a lesser extent, but is not a Panacea for beating all stat-uppers who don't have a type advantage (and it requires that you react quickly). Other additions to the movepool could help, such as screech, fake tears, high critical hit moves, or (P)hazing.

I know this is ability discussion, not movepool, but I'm trying to show that we don't need to solve all of his problems with ability alone. It seems that everyone wants to make a Revvy counter single handedly in each thread, and the result will be a broken pokemon.

Or you could take an even easier approach: Fast Flying move with Unaware.

Which, if Wyverii's concept wins, is a very real possibility.

As for the secondary ability, an auto-Psych Up could work, as long as the boosts stayed after the opposing Pokemon was KO'd.

That would make it insanely broken in my opinion. Its basically taking 3-4 turns of set-up with one switch and little risk to itself afterward. If it lost the boosts I guess it would be OK, but I'd rather we just gave it Unaware with a crappy secondary ability.

Yeah, you're right.

I guess the secondary ability is going to depend on what the art is, as there are a few ways that we could go (Shell Armour on Atyroki's, Keen Eye on Wyverii's, etc.)

I support the Dry Skin-ish ability. It's not overpowered much, (unlike the Psych-up ability) and if we make CAP 6 weak to a type not normally used (poison comes to mind) then other pokemon not normally used can be used instead. (after all, that's what you're trying to do with CAP 6 right?) As for the second ability, I guess it depends on the artwork. (althou really, I don't think anyone would use the second ability if its something idiotic like Keen Eye.

I am definitely a fan of forewarn. It doesn't *actually* do anything to the battle, but gives the user a hint as to what set is being used. It could be devastating. (Though maybe a bit too devastating.)

Would Psych Up still boost CAP6's stats with Unaware in affect? Just curious as that ould actually further convince me to support Unaware or an equivilant.

Yes, it would. It only acts like the opponent doesn't have any boost, but they're still there.

Also, don't forget Unaware does NOT ignore Speed boosts.

it's not SUPPOSED to ignore them, but i've seen it happen on shoddy. just one of those bugs that still need tobe worked out. im a bit apprehensive to vote for this due to the fact that it still hasn't been completely fixed yet.

So you want this to heal 12.5% HP in Rain, Absorb Water attacks, and by only slightly weaker against Heatran, whose attacks you still technically resist.

Yeah, I'm not seeing how making this better than Poliwrath in pretty much every single way imaginable, right down to Water Absorption isn't overpowering.

Exactly. I think Birdy was reffering to Pristinal Darkness (right?), a Dry Skin-ish ability that would give an immunity to Dark and weakness to Poison.

The only thing I can say about this ability is that giving a bulky water a weakness to, of all types, POISON is pretty nice. Just because I think Water really should be weak to Poison. But then again, none of the top 10 pokémon will use Sludge Bomb anyway!

Fidgit. It isn't as if Earth Power isn't already stomped upon by most of the Top 10.

And also Gengar if this ends up being a big enough threat, but Gengar isn't in the Top 10 of the server.

Interestingly enough this could bring back the likes of Sludge Bomb Venusaur, or put Poison Jab on SD Victreebel. And Sludge Bomb Tentacruel could start coming back, based solely on the fact it will resist all of CAP6's important moves.
