Capsizes and Buybacks

Hey Goyz!!! I'm greenstreet and I'm back from a break of pokemon :)) I constructed this team with one firm goal in my mind: a sem-HO apporach that focuses on destroying walls that can open up sweeps for the others to abuse. It's pretty basic actually. I used the Starmie + Metagross lead combo, followed yup by the stat boosting trio of scizor, gyarados and tyranitar and sealed by flygon's scouting and revenge killing potential. Overall this team is a blast and I think it has a lot of potential :)). So what do you guys think?

Starmie @ Life Orb
Timid/ 4HP/ 252Spe/ 252 SpA
~Hydro Pump
~Ice Beam
~Thunderbolt
~Rapid Spin/ Recover/ Grass Knot

I lead off with a LO Starmie that pairs well with my real stealth rocker, metagross. My plan is to pressue my opponent from the start and lure out those pursuit users and the like to stat boost this early on. His job pretty starightforward but Im not really sure about the last move since Swampert can be a bitch and Recover can be useful since my team can decimate Blissey easily allowing me to sweep.

Metagross @ Lum Berry
Adamant/ 252 HP/ 240 Atk/ 16 Spe
~Meteor Mash
~Bullet Punch
~Earthquake
~Stealth Rock

Part two of my lead combo. This guy takes over the leads where Starmie has problems with and sets up rocks as well. It can be used later on for clearing weakend DDnites and some random stuff with bullet punch that could prove troublesome. It doubles as a pseudo status remover with lum berry that can scout my opponent's moveset like scouting a rotom whether its defensive or choiced. I chose meteor mash over explosion because I hate double switch ins that could be my disadvantage.

Flygon @ Choice Scarf
Jolly/ 4HP/ 252 Atk/ 252 Spe
~U-Turn
~Earthquake
~Outrage
~Stone Edge

God, I love this guy. Flygon checks so much threats in our meta game its not even funny. It covers up my Jolteon weakness, scouts for thunder wave and the like and revenges thos lucky bastards that managed to set up on me. It could even sweep late game after my core has weakend the opposing team enough with outrage or spam earthquake after my opponent has lost all his non-grounded pokemon. Overall I can say this is the glue that holds my team together.

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Jolly/ 156 HP/ 76 Atk/ 96 Def/ 168 Spe
~Dragon Dance
~Taunt
~Bounce
~Waterfall

My first stat-booster. The EV's were chosen in order to outspeed foolish jolteons trying to kill me after a dragon dance. The moveset of designed to set-up on would be gyarados counters namely phazers and celebi. The only problem this set has is thos damn scarf pokemons with thunderbolts that revenges me before I can even sweep. It can weaken those said pokemon in order for the other two to sweep.

Scizor @ Leftovers
Adamant/ 252HP/ 56Atk/ 176SpD
~Roost
~Bullet Punch
~Brick Break
~Swords Dance

Legacy Rider's bulky SD scizor set. It sets up on so much pokemon that scizor isnt supposed to it makes me laugh. I laugh at those pesky vaporeons or magnezones(providing it doesnt have HP fire) and set-up while healing off with roost. He's the only one with priority in my entire team and revenges weakend sweepers nicely after prior damage. Brick Break closes the set with coverage against those bulky waters and steels that otherwise walls this set

tyranitar_sprite.png

Tyranitar @ Lum Berry
Jolly/ 4HP/ 252 Atk/ 252 Spe
~Dragon Dance
~Crunch
~Fire Punch
~Stone Edge

Awesome pokemon. I chose lum berry over lefties to add another dragon dance against those foolish rotoms and blisseys trying to stop me with shit like thunder wave or will-o-wisps. If I managed to scout a scizor I immediately spam Fire Punch to burn the damn mantis thus opening my sweep because Scizor if the most effecient check to this guy. Majority of Scarf users are retarded special attackers with max speed and low power that fails to kill this guy. I usually send this after gyarados dies because by then dos wouldve weakend the defensive core already.

This team has been great really and I love the offensive tempo of it. It also has this surpise factor that can be used to my advantage. Any thoughts?

Babiri Berry on Tyranitar if you're going to run Fire Punch. Then you can survive the Bullet Punch and KO it. You can't rely on spamming Fire Punch because 1). then something else will kill you, like a bulky water, and 2). after you kill something, Scizor can just come in. I have used DDTar a TON on my teams, and I don't think he's a great late-game sweeper (I'm using him on HO but that's different). Too vulnerable to revenging with weakness to Bullet Punch (Scizor), Mach Punch (Infernape), Vacuum Wave (Infernape), Earthquake (Flygon, which can outspeed him at +2 if it's max speed scarfed), Iron Head (ScarfRachi, which can also outspeed him at +2). His STABs are fairly easily walled (see: Fighting-type, Steel-type) and a neutral Fire punch is no stronger than a resisted Stone Edge.

I would give something more reliable a try. Lucario is quite good. Shares a Fighting and Ground weakness with Tyranitar but makes up for them with Extremespeed and a more immediately threatening speed. +2 Close Combat can also break through things like Skarmory that Tyranitar could never hope to do with a single turn setup. AgiliGross is fairly reliable as well.

Thanks man I really appreciate your feedback. Im not quite sure about SD Lucario though, maybe agiligross would work out. Any thing else?

I could see ScarfTar in there over your current Metagross if you do try out AgiliGross (though that leaves you without Stealth Rock). It would work well in conjunction with Gyarados as the only things outspeeding you after a DD will be Scarved. Tyranitar has good special defense with Sand Stream, so he can easily take something like a Scarf Rotom-A Thunderbolt and take it out with Pursuit.

Considering that Rotom-A is a solid counter to both Metagross and Scizor that would help you a lot. Speaking of Scizor, it may be worth trying out a less bulky set without Roost. Bug Bite gets 135 BP after Technician and STAB, compared to Brick Break's 75, which is a major asset in bypassing bulky waters, which can cause this team trouble.

I'm not sure about Bounce on Gyarados. In my experience all it really helps with is Celebi. Two of the most common phazers, Skarmory and Hippowdon, are both hit harder with Waterfall, though Bounce does hit Swampert a little harder (he doesn't like +1 Waterfall anyway, though, even if he Roars you away after). People won't leave Celebi in to take a Bounce if they have something else that can. Other things like Metagross and Zapdos then become problems as well, as AgiliGross could set up on you if it's carrying Thunderpunch and physically defensive Zapdos can easily take a +1 Waterfall in stride and Roost it off later.

Thanks man but Rotom-A hasnt really given me problems. It zapdos, if I make metagross a sweeper who could replace him as a stealth rocker. This also emphasizes my weakness against fire attacks. Who could be another stat booster sweeper that could replace tyranitar and isnt fire, steel or ground weak. Im tired of scarfgons and scarfrachis ruiningmy fun :(

You could use a lead that fits Stealth Rock in somewhere. I don't see a weakness to Fire attacks with Flygon, Gyarados, and Tyranitar all resisting it.

Gyarados isn't Fire, Steel, or Ground weak (resists all 3, in fact). You could use a more offensive version to clean up at the end with DD/Waterfall/Edgequake. Dragonite isn't weak to any of those and with Extremespeed he can pick off Scarf Flygon provided it has taken some residual damage (+1 Adamant does about 80% I think). ScarfRachi can still deal with him with flinchhax or Ice Punch, since Extremespeed is resisted, but if you don't get haxed you can dispose of it with Earthquake. ScarfRachi is fortunately less common than Scarf Flygon.

You don't happen to play Magic, do you? :P

Anyways, nice team. I personally prefer offensive DDdos on a team like this, but that's your choice.
