Introduction

My philosophy to a decent team is that it can synergize well with itself and still contend with others. For a while I was stuck in a slump after everyone caught on about Reuniclus, and even though I tried a few team ideas, I just couldn't get anything going. A bit ago, it dawned on me that I should try a new style, and came up with an offensive team unlike anything I've really used before.

Also, bulky boosting is king.

This RMT aims to combine that philosophy with one of my favorite animes I've watched recently. Really, everyone here, go watch Gundam 00. Just try not to take Season 2 too seriously. And the movie kinda sucks.

Team Building Process
At first I wanted to start with Volcarona. It's a very dangerous threat, one that not every single team has a backup plan for.

637.gif

Next, I decided to follow it up with some teammates that complement it well. I've heard good things about Virizion being able to support it by killing off bulky Waters and luring in Heatran to an extent. To round this core off, I brought in another offensive threat, Gyarados. It's another boosting threat that can be potentially hazardous if either of the other two fail, and it creates a solid offensive FWG core.

130.gif

This forms a really nice core, but like any team, it needs support. A lot of specially-oriented threats like Latios and Reuniclus could pose a threat to this team if it gets an opening, and they love healing, especially Gyarados. Paralysis support really helps here for getting Gyarados off the ground as well, so to support the team, Jirachi was chosen. Entry Hazards proved to be a major threat to this team through testing, so a Rapid Spinner was necessary. Something able to handle entry hazards well, spin them away, and still be useful in case of an emergency. Starmie and Tentacruel came across as nice, but one stood out: Excadrill.

With this in mind, we needed one final teammate, something to support the team well. Tyranitar came as a natural fit, due to being able to lure in threats like Garchomp to an extent and some Fighters. Fighting-types seem to love coming in on this thing, so I settled with a Chople Tyranitar variant.

Now for the team itself:

Meet The Team

248.gif

Ptolemy (Tyranitar) (M) @ Chople Berry
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 180 SAtk / 76 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Fire Blast
- Crunch
- Ice Beam

"So, what's his deal?" His deal is simple: Get the team going. He was chosen because he's just so damn useful. A Chople Berry is chosen to lure in random shit like Lucario and other bullshit Fighting-types and KO some of them. The trait is entirely obvious, and the EV spread needs a bit of explanation. Max HP and some SpDef means it could take some special hits, namely Latios Draco Meteor and such. The rest was allocated to SpA so he could hit 4x weaknesses a bit harder, like Ferrothorn, Gliscor, Garchomp, and other friends. A Sassy nature was chosen to take hits better, as he's not outspeeding much in the first place, a speed lowering nature is fine here, as it doesn't compromise his other stats.

"So what's his moves?": Crunch is his most reliable STAB, letting him contend with the likes of Gengar, Reuniclus, and Chandelure. Stealth Rock is self-explanatory, letting me get some chip damage and push some things into OHKO range. It also keeps dangerous fliers in check, like Garchomp, and keeps Sash abusers like Cloyster locked down. Fire Blast and Ice Beam add coverage for hitting 4x weak mons like the aformentioned Gliscor and Ferrothorn.

Considered Changes: I've considered Superpower to fuck over other Tyranitar. Earthquake would also be kinda nice, but I'm not sure if there's room for it.

Synergy:
Water: Gyarados, Virizion
Grass: Virizion, Volcarona, Jirachi
Fighting: Gyarados, Volcarona, Chople Berry.
Ground: Gyarados, Virizion, Excadrill (while Balloon)
Bug: Gyarados, Volcarona, Excadrill
Steel: Gyarados, Volcarona, Excadrill, Jirachi

530.gif

Exia (Excadrill) (M) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

- Swords Dance
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide

"So, what's his deal?" Excadrill is important to this team for filling a niche nothing else can do quite as well: Rapid Spin abuse. As the name implies, he's designed to cut down hazards that threaten this team, and even other teams if need be. A Balloon is chosen simply because this team could use another Excadrill check, and it has saved me in some emergencies. Sand Rush gets him some much-needed speed, and the EVs really need no explanation: max speed and power here. A Jolly nature lets him get the jump on Adamant Excadrill and speed tie at worst with others.

"So what's his moves?" Swords Dance, Earthquake, and Rock Slide form a simple offensive EdgeQuake that threatens teams everywhere, hitting a lot, albeit resisted by some. Rapid Spin is needed here. By forgoing a coverage move like Brick Break or Return, hazards no longer pose a threat to this team. Gyarados and Volcarona appreciate hazards being off the field.

Considered Changes: None. He's good as is.

Synergy:
Fire: Tyranitar, Gyarados
Water: Gyarados, Virizion
Fighting: Gyarados, Volcarona
Ground: Gyarados, Virizion, Balloon

385.gif

Nadhleeh (Jirachi) @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 224 SDef / 32 Spd
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)

- Iron Head
- Wish
- Fire Punch
- Body Slam

"So, what's his deal?" His deal is to support the team, usually with Wishes and paralysis, alongside checking a few choice headaches. A specially defensive variant was chosen for the fact it's quite bulky, and can help with things like the Latis and can even tank a Fire Blast from Hydreigon like a champ, and probably even Heatran. The EVs provide optimal bulk, and enough speed to outspeed max speed Tyranitar. A Careful nature was chosen for maximum bulk while sacrificing the useless SpA stat.

"So what's his moves?" Iron Head is for flinchy bullshit, and it has wormed me out of a few losing scenarios. Wish is self-explanatory, which with max HP, can pass 202 HP at a time to anyone that needs it. Fire Punch can punish Scizor, Ferrothorn, and most importantly Magnezone, and Body Slam spreads paralysis, with the benefit of not being Taunt bait.

Considered Changes: I'd love to run Protect over Fire Punch, but Magnezone's a cunt. He costs me games when I run protect for whatever reason.

Synergy:
Fire: Tyranitar, Gyarados
Ground: Gyarados, Virizion, Excadrill (while Balloon)

130.gif

Kyrios (Gyarados) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Bounce
"So, what's his deal?" Gyarados, like his nickname, is batshit insane. He brings some much-needed resistances to the table. Intimidate is chosen as a trait due to checking so much stuff, and Moxie doesn't bring any real benefits to this team. He's serving as an offensive threat, so a Jolly nature with a simple 252/252 spread is used here for max speed while maintaing power.

"So what's his moves?" Dragon Dance is still excellent, boosting his speed and power to absurd levels. Waterfall and Stone Edge are used for optimal coverage, and Bounce is an auxiliary move, allowing him to muscle past Celebi, Conkeldurr, and other miscellaneous threats. The moveset otherwise requires little to no explanation.

Considered changes: Ice Fang is a possible choice over Bounce, as it'd help check Garchomp and Landorus, for instance.

Synergy:
Electric(yellow on this color hurts the eyes): Virizion
Rock: Excadrill, Virizion
637.gif

Virtue (Volcarona) (M) @ Chesto Berry
Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 160 HP / 252 SAtk / 96 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

- Rest
- Quiver Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Fiery Dance

"So, what's his deal?": Our favorite moth, like his name, is dedicated to pure firepower (no pun intended). Volcarona is always something of an underrated threat due to SR, but with SR out of the way, a lot of teams hate facing this thing. I originally ran an all-out-offensive variant, but the added coverage didn't help in the emergency case where Excadrill died before spinning rocks. Thus, I chose a more bulky variant that can bulky boost, the classic ChestoRest tactic.

Flame Body is a good ability, on the off chance something like Scizor tries to kill it with priority before I recover, and Swarm just doesn't have the benefits here. The EVs and nature are set to maximize firepower, while leaving some room for HP and speed. That HP is needed, as it has caused me to barely win a few matches with something like 6HP. The moth starts at 260 speed and it's all uphill from there.

"So what's his moves?" Quiver Dance is an excellent boosting move, used to outpace things, all while bolstering it's excellent special defense and special attack. Rest is there to take hits, Rest it off and recover at the last second, and then Bug Buzz and Fiery Dance are used to sweep.

Considered Changes: Fiery Dance can be swapped out for Flamethrower or Fire Blast if the power doesn't suit you well enough.

Synergy:
Water: Gyarados, Virizion
Flying: Gyarados, Tyranitar, Excadrill, Jirachi
Rock: Excadrill, Virizion

640.gif

Dynames (Virizion) @ Leftovers
Trait: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

- Focus Blast
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Calm Mind

"So, what's his deal?" Last but certainly not least is a musketeer, Virizion, who completes this offensive FWG core. As the nickname implies, he's there to support the others by being a pain in the neck and picking targets off from afar. He also serves as another Excadrill check, and you can never have enough of those.

Leftovers adds some nice bulk to this thing, and the EV and Nature are optimized for max speed while maintaining some power.

"So what's his moves?" I originally ran a more physical variant, but after getting raped twice by Acid Armor Jellicents, I swapped to a CM variant. Calm Mind allows this thing to boost against some special threats, and from there, Giga Drain and Focus Blast are excellent STABs that allow for healing and maximum power, respectively. Hidden Power Ice rounds off the set, letting this thing work as a potential check to Garchomp and other Dragons.

Considered Changes: Nothing here can really be changed. If this thing got Aura Sphere I'd probably use it, it can afford a slight power drop.

Synergy:
Fire: Tyranitar, Gyarados
Ice: Tyranitar, Jirachi, Volcarona. Most ice doesn't trouble this thing much seeing how it's mostly Special-based.
Poison: Excadrill, Jirachi.
Flying: Gyarados, Tyranitar, Excadrill, Jirachi
Psychic: Tyranitar, Excadrill, Jirachi.

endteam();

Conclusion

For the past day or so I've used and abused this team, it's come close on a few losses, and yet maintains it's standing as being able to walk over various teams, left and right. I've been relatively satisfied with this team, and I hope it continues to work in the meanwhile. And I gotta thank the bros at #ratemyteam for some of the advice I got.

P.S. Gyarados apparently holds this team together like nothing, look at the synergy listings, especially for Tyranitar.

Excadrill can cause some problems to your team and I wouldnt rely on winning speed ties all the time so maybe try and fit a standard wall gliscor instead of gyarados.

Offensive Threats
Orange indicates a potential threat
Red indicates a weakness.

dpicon142.png
Aerodactyl - Rarely seen, usually a lead. Tyranitar 2HKOes with Ice Beam, Excadrill outspeeds, Gyarados can Intimidate, and Virizion can handle non-Flying variants
567.png
Archeops - Same deal.
Ani482MS.png
Azelf - Jirachi and Tyranitar can usually handle this thing. Potential offensive threat, but otherwise a non-factor.
625.png
Bisharp - Jirachi can Fire Punch him. Volcarona can easily torch him, and Virizion can 4x Focus Blast him.
Ani286MS.png
Breloom - Potential bitch #1. I usually let Tyranitar take the sleep, and have Gyarados counter it. Failing that, Volcarona can stop it provided it doesn't run Stone Edge.
609.png
Chandelure - Tyranitar and Gyarados make this their bitch.
638.png
Cobalion - N/A. I haven't seen one ever this gen.
534.png
Conkeldurr - Hate this fucker so much. Gyarados can Bounce it and Virizion can try to contend with Giga Drain. Dangerous if left unchecked.
555-normal.png
555.png
Darmanitan - CB Flare Blitz is a bitch. It can OHKO Gyarados with a crit. I have to rely on either outspeeding or chip damage.
Deoxys-S - It's getting hazards up, but I can at least KO it. Chople Berry prevents a potential KO from Superpower.
dpicon149.png
Dragonite - Potential bitch #2. Multiscale put him a bit further up than I planned. Jirachi can handle special-based variants, Tyranitar can handle mixed with a Chople.
dpicon466.png
Electivire - Get that shit outta here. Tyranitar can rape it. Excadrill outspeeds and OHKOs, Jirachi can tank it. Volcarona could set up on it.
Ani395MS.png
Empoleon - Rare, but a potential threat nonetheless. Virizion can handle it, but if it gets an Agility in, Excadrill may need to revenge it.
196MS.png
Espeon - Eat a bag of dicks. Tyranitar can crunch it, Jirachi can wall it, and Volcarona could set up on it.
589.png
Escavalier - This thing's slow as molasses, but manageable. Handled similarly to Scizor.
530.png
Excadrill - This could be bad if it gets anything going. Virizion needs to be in top form to answer it, and Excadrill hopes he wins speed ties and keeps the Balloon.
445.png
Garchomp - A moderate threat, but a threat nonetheless. He'll be hard-pressed to switch into anything here except after something faints. Virizion can HP Ice him, Gyarados can Intimidate and contend with him. Excadrill outspeeds otherwise.
Ani094MS.png
Gengar - Tyranitar and Jirachi murder this thing. Volcarona can potentially set up provided it dodges Shadow Ball SpDef drops.
368.gif
Gorebyss - OH MY GOD FUCK YOU IF YOU RUN THIS. I FUCKING HATE YOU. Not a threat on it's own, but depending on the team it passes to, you're potentially fucked.
Ani130MS.png
Gyarados - Usually I'll let Virizion and Gyarados deal with this thing, as they're the safest answers here. Jirachi can take an unboosted Earthquake.
612.png
Haxorus - He'll probably secure a kill because of CB Outrage. He's easily revenged with Gyarados and Virizion though.
Ani485MS.png
Heatran - Virizion can usually lure it in, and Gyarados usually outright walls it.
dpicon214.png
Heracross - Not common enough to say anything.
635.png
Hydreigon - Yeah this kinda sucks. Jirachi can usually paralyze and flinch it, Tyranitar can take a Focus Blast and hit back with Ice Beam. Volcarona can set up vs. weakened ones.
Ani392MS.png
Infernape - Somewhat dangerous. Gyarados can stop most variants, and Virizion can speed tie against max speed variants, outspeeding otherwise. Failing that, Excadrill outspeeds and OHKOes.
Ani385MS.png
Jirachi - Volcarona can murder the CM variants by boosting alongside it before burning it.
Ani135MS.png
Jolteon - Very very rare. Excadrill and Tyranitar usually handle it fine.
Ani230MS.png
Kingdra - Rain is a bitch. I usually rely on Jirachi to stop it, otherwise I need to use Gyarados or Virizion.
553.png
Krookodile - Not common enough to be considered a threat.
646.png
Kyurem - This could be a problem. Stealth Rock and Jirachi can wall it, otherwise I need to outspeed it with Volcarona or something.
645.png
Landorus - Oh god. This thing hurts. Badly. Virizion is usually my safest answer to it, otherwise I hope Gyarados can take a Stone Edge...
381.png
Latios - This shit's for chumps. Jirachi and Tyranitar eat it for supper. Volcarona can set up after a DM from it.
Lilligant - Volcarona and Jirachi are usually my first answers to it.
Ani448MS.png
Lucario - Interesting. Tyranitar can lure it in hilariously enough. Otherwise Gyarados is usually a good answer, as is Volcarona.
Ani068MS.png
Machamp - Thankfully rare. Dynamicpunch hax usually works in their favor, but otherwise I have to rely on Intimidate drops to weaken it. Yeah he's a jerk. Thankfully he doesn't get Mach Punch.
Ani462MS.png
Magnezone - The sole reason I run Fire Punch on Jirachi. Excadrill eats it for supper, as does Tyranitar. Volcarona can also set up on it.
Ani473MS.png
Mamoswine - This can hurt, but otherwise Gyarados and Virizion are good answers to it.
Ani376MS.png
Metagross - Rare, but otherwise handleable by Volcarona.
620.png
Mienshao - Regeneration is annoying, but otherwise it's killable. Gyarados can lock it down usually, and if something faster is out, he's toast.
579.png
Reuniclus - Who ISN'T threatened by this thing to an extent? Tyranitar can contend with Chople Berry, Jirachi's a solid answer otherwise, and Volcarona scares it off.
dpicon407.png
Roserade - Never seen it this generation. Same deal as the other grasses though.
373.png
Salamence - Rare, but this could be a problem. DD variants usually are revenged by locking it into Outrage, and mixed variants can be toed with by Jirachi and others. He'll have a hard time switching in usually.
586.png
Sawsbuck - Usually seen in Sun, so it's fast as fuck. Usually changing the weather then sending out Volcarona works. Otherwise Jirachi can stop it.
Ani212MS.png
Scizor - He's still there, and a bit annoying. Jirachi can Fire Punch it, and Volcarona eats it for supper. Gyarados also walls it to death.
560.png
Scrafty- Potential threat. Virizion needs to hit it with Focus Blast, and Volcarona needs to burn it down fast. Gyarados can Bounce against it.
537.png
Seismitoad - Virizion eats this thing for all it's worth.
497.png
Serperior - Jirachi walls it, as does Volcarona. Next?
492-land.png
Shaymin - Same deal as Serperior.
561.png
Sigilyph - Tyranitar can get a hit in before it starts to ready a Psycho Shift. Volcarona can set up against it for free usually, and it'll be hard-pressed to find an opening otherwise.
dpicon235.png
Smeargle - Usually carries Spore and either a Baton Pass or entry hazard set. Tyranitar can set Sand to break the sash, then Volcarona can eat it by boosting against it. That or Jirachi can paralyze what it passes to usually.
Ani121MS.png
Starmie - Jirachi and Tyranitar can work against it. Failing that, Virizion can beat it.
639.png
Terakion - This could be bad. If I lose Excadrill before this thing dies, I have to hope Virizion can stop it.
642.png
Thundurus - Jirachi works, but otherwise there's no surefire counter to it.
dpicon468.png
Togekiss - Not seeing it enough to say anything.
641.png
Tornadus - Less of a threat than Thundurus, but Jirachi can stop it.
Ani248MS.png
Tyranitar - Hah, no problem. Excadrill and Jirachi can handle it fine. Otherwise Volcarona, Gyarados, and Virizion can murder it. He's no threat. DD variants can be handled just as well.
003MS.png
Venusaur - Fuck you in the sun. A weather change is needed, then Volcarona eats it.
494.png
Victini - CB V-create sucks. Gyarados has to wall it, otherwise Tyranitar needs to take it.
640.png
Virizion - He's a potential threat. Gyarados can Bounce it, Jirachi can handle the CM sets, and Volcarona can handle any that don't carry a Rock move.
637.png
Volcarona - Gyarados is usually my first answer, followed by Excadrill.
Ani461MS.png
Weavile - Jirachi eats it. Gyarados eats it.
571.png
Zoroark - Not very common, but a well-played one can be a headache. Otherwise, Jirachi can stop it, as can Tyranitar and Virizion.

Looking at your threat list, a lot of your team's problems can be solved by Gliscor. Breloom, Conkeldurr, DD Dragonite, Excadrill, Garchomp, Haxorus, Scrafty, and Terrakion. Most of these threats you use Gyarados to handle. But Gyarados isn't so great as it's too easily walled by something like Ferrothorn (most common Pokemon in BW OU). So replace your Gyarados with Gliscor. Here's the set:

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb -- Poison Heal
Nature: Impish - EVs: 252 HP / 56 Atk / 200 Def
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Protect

Now swapping Gyarados for Gliscor makes you more vulnerable to Fire Pokemon, especially Heatran and Volcarona. You can replace Volcarona (since it's not helping you counter anything you already can counter) for Rotom-W. Here's the set:

Rotom @ Leftovers -- Levitate
Nature: Modest - EVs: 124 HP / 252 SAtk / 132 Spd
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Pain Split
- Will-O-Wisp

Now, this should really improve your team.

What does Gyara use Stone Edge for? Genies are KOed by +1 Waterfall, and there doesn't seem to be too much else to hit with it. Ice Fang would be a better option to check the Dragons, EQ otherwise. EQ allows you to beat opposing Jirachi easily and also crush any Magnezone that might give Jirachi minor trouble. With that change, you could consider taking Fire Punch off (though it'll still be nice against Ferrothorn), and speaking of Ferrothorn, I've found that EQ is better than Bounce against it because with Bounce you're taking extra Leech Seed damage, extra SS damage, Iron Barbs damage, which will probably result in dead Gyara.

Since it provides so much synergy-wise, you could consider running Lefties and switching to Adamant. Nothing comes to mind that Jolly outruns that Adamant doesn't after +1. SS + SR racks up and I'm sure you use it to sponge Scizor's hits all day, so you may want to try Lefties.

Eternal and lostaurora, those suggestions seem good. I'll give them a try tomorrow and see if they help at all.

It'll probably be nice not having to deal with speed ties as much.

Back with some test data. Yeah, the switch over to Gliscor and Rotom-W seems to have improved this team's win-rate immensely. It's nice not having to fight speed ties so often.
