Champion's Vest

So, this is my first rate my team and I made a forum account just for this. I've been playing on and off for a few years and after a ton of failed teams I decided to make an RMT. Because of the new fad known as assault vest, I decided I would make a team centered around Assault-vest Machamp and this is what I came up with.
machamp.jpg

Machamp @ Assault Vest
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Dynamic Punch
- Stone Edge
- Thunder Punch/Ice Punch/Fire Punch
- Poison Jab/Knock Off
So this is the center of my team and so far, he has done wonders. Machamp is an extremely strong physical attacker and thanks to assault-vest he doesn't need spdef investment to live a few special hits and potentially hax with dynamic punch confusion. Also, this guy can take multiple thunderbolts from mega manectric and attack with dynamic punch. I've also been having a lot of trouble with the moveset for this guy though. He has so much coverage and I can never decide what to run for the last two moves. Obviously, Dynamic punch and stone edge are a must for Machamp, but thunderpunch and poison jab could be traded for moves such as knock-off, ice punch, fire punch and more that I am forgetting. Btw, I run poison jab for the fairy types in the tier. For the ev spread, I decided to just use a simple spread that gave machamp a ton of hp and attack. Next, I wanted a strong physical wall and stealth rocks.

Swampert @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Scald/Earth Power
- Roar
- Toxic/Ice Beam
Swampert is pretty awesome. He is such a great pokemon to handle a lot of strong physical fire type attackers such as victini and entei that run rampant in the tier (as far as I know). He takes V-creates and flare blitzes on the chin and retaliates with scald, or if he has an ample amount of hp left, set up rocks. However, the one downfall with swampert that is pretty obvious is the fact that he has no reliable recovery. Therefore, I have to be careful with his hp stat and only take attacks if I absolutely need to. Also, I decided to run roar to phaze out set-up sweepers instead of running coverage such as ice beam or earth power, because mega-whatevers are so strong and they need to be phazed out as soon as possible if they set up. So because of swampert's 4x weakness to grass, I needed a good wall to grass pokemon.

Crobat @ Black Sludge
Ability: Infiltrator
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 136 Spd / 4 SDef / 176 HP / 192 Def
Jolly Nature
- Defog/U-Turn
- Brave Bird
- Taunt
- Roost
The perfect grass type counter is crobat. It walls every grass type move imaginable with the only exception being his inability to deal with celebi. However, most of the times, celebis are defensive and I can live a psychic and go for a brave bird. Also, crobat stops foretress, roserade, smeargle, etc. with taunt and defog. Crobat has been extremely useful so far and the ev spread I used was the traditional wallbreaker set (I think). Also, in a pinch, crobat can take V-creates from victinis and flare blitz from Entei and roost off the damage.

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 220 SDef / 252 HP / 36 Spd
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Recover
- Thunder Wave
- Giga Drain
- Heal Bell
Because of Swampert's inability to recover realiable, status conditions are extremely harmful and thus, I wanted to run heal bell celebi. Celebi I think creates nice synergy with swampert due to the fact that swampert takes fire moves meant for celebi and if crobat is down celebit can take any grass type attack or status condition it wants. Giga drain on celbi is a nice stab move, but because of recover, I think I could replace it with another move, just not sure what. I also, decided to run thunder wave to cripple scarfers and set-up sweepers and retaliate with any other powerhouses that I have.

Heliolisk (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Dry Skin
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Surf/Grass Knot
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt
Heliolisk I think is a very underrated pokemon. Although, it's typing is pretty terrible, it can take ghost moves that are meant for celebi and chandelure. Also, I chose to run heliolisk instead of something like mega-manectric because I wanted a scarfer that could outspeed almost anything. Also, it has very nice coverage with surf, grass knot and focus blast. I opted to go for volt switch and thunderbolt because volt switch gives me switch initiative and thunderbolt gives me the extra power when heliolisk is the only pokemon left on my team. Also, a 109 special attack stat and special defense stat is nothing to laugh at. If it needs to it can take a few special hits and 2hko with the move of its choice thanks to my choice scarf. Also, this poke is a nice check to mega blastoise and mega aerodactyl and it can practically wall the odd cofagrigus and maybe mega banette. In addition, the rampant bulky water types in the tier are completely destroyed by heliolisk and if it runs grass knot, opposing swamperts, quagsires and gastrodons are done for. I personally don't run grass knot because celebi is a nice stop to the pokemon above.
chandelure_by_beverii-d5aseog.png

Chandelure @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 184 Spd / 252 SAtk / 68 HP / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Fire Blast/Flamethrower
- Shadow Ball
- Pain Split
For the final slot, I decided I might as well complete the fire water grass core I have going on with swampert and celebi. I first had entei and victini in this spot, but I decided that I wanted another special attacker and victini's attack/special attack stat were a little too low for my taste. So, I went with what is probably the most powerful fire type special attacker in the tier, chandelure. I could run choice specs on chandelure, but I opted for the sub split set instead. The ev spread is just ripped off from the smogon data base. Chandelure's special attack stat is massive and can probably 2hko everything in the tier. Also, I set up subs on extremely obvious switches and pain split if I'm lacking in hp.

Well, there you have it. I think I wrote a lot of useless description for the pokemon that I used, but hopefully it was useful. I honestly don't know what to change or improve on this team and I decided to use the RMT forums for help. Any feedback would be appreciated, but I would prefer to keep Assault vest Machamp on the team because the whole team is centered around it.

Your team lacks a setup sweeper which means stall can pretty much run over you. There's very little reason not to use Mega Houndoom over Chandelure, as it can complete the FWG core as well as boost its SpA with Nasty Plot to give you a way to break through defensive cores.

Also you can struggle slightly with bulky CM boosters like Slowbro and Reuniclus if they get too many boosts up so you're probably going to want Perish Song on Celebi over one of your support moves (Thunder Wave or Heal Bell). This allows you to force them out early- to mid-game, and beats them if they're the last mon on the field. Another option is a Nasty Plot + Baton Pass set which can accomplish a similar feat while allowing you to support your special attackers, but idk if you want to give up both support moves.

Houndoom @ Houndoominite
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Flame Charge / Destiny Bond

Celebi: either Thunder Wave or Heal Bell --> Perish Song

Machamp: I love Machamp, its one of my favorite Pokémon. That aside i think you should change the moveset a bit. Because you have the Assault Vest you dont have any pressure switching moves and therefore i suggest Bullet Punch over the elemental punches. Dealing with nasty Fairy-types and giving the slow Machamp priority. Knock Off is so over powered this gen and therefore i think Knock Off is a better choice than Poison Jab.

Celebi: If you have to switch something it might be Celebi. Its typing isnt all that great, giving it many weaknesses. Its funny, there are 2 more Pokémon who share the exact same traits as Celebi, Mew and Shaymin. Both can cover either side of Celebi, Mew is Psychic and Shaymin Grass.

Mew @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 232 SpDef / 24 Spd
Calm Nature
- Psychic/Psyshock
- Heal Bell
- Will-o-Wisp/Thunder Wave
- Softboiled/Roost

or

Shaymin @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SDef / 248 HP / 8 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Seed Flare
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Mew is used as SpDef Heal Bell Support and Shaymin as a SpDef SubSeed Absorber. I suggest trying out both and decide if either Mew, Shaymin or Celebi fits best in your team.

Heliolisk: As for Heliolisk, its strong, fast and has a good movepool but i do think there are better Pokémon out there for the job. Raikou for example but also Galvantula who also provides Sticky Web.

Raikou @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
- Thunderbolt
- Aura Sphere
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Volt Switch

Galvantula @ Choice Scarf/Focus Sash/Life Orb
Ability: Compound Eyes
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Thunder
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Sticky Web

Jolteon @ Choice Specs/Scarf
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Coverage (it even learns Heal Bell lol)
- Volt Switch

Chandalure: I do think Mega Houndoom is a better choice than Chandalure, already explained by Dat Blast.
