Charizard's immense firepower while under sun grants it a small niche in the RU tier. However, its mediocre bulk and weakness to entry hazards such as Stealth Rock as well as chip damage from Solar Power limit Charizard's ability to be a powerful force throughout the game. Charizard also faces competition from Solar Power Heliolisk as it is not limited by hazards and has an overall better speed tier. Overheat is Charizard's primary STAB attack, OHKOing or 2HKOing nearly every single Pokemon in the metagame that isn't immune to it while under sun. Scorching Sands hits Pokemon that resist or are immune to Charizard's Fire-type attacks such as Chandelure, Incineroar, and Volcanion. Weather Ball is a slightly weaker yet more consistent Fire-type attack than Overheat under sun, as it still has strong damage output without dropping Charizard's Special Attack. Solar Beam is Charizard's strongest move against Water-types such as Gastrodon, Seismitoad, and Milotic, while also enabling Charizard to OHKO Rhyperior and Diancie after Stealth Rock under sun. Roost is an option over Solar Beam to provide Charizard with more longevity. This works particularly well with Heavy Duty Boots, as the lack of Stealth Rock damage helps to make the recovery that Charizard gains from Roost more relevant in the long term.

Since Charizard's sole niche lies in its wallbreaking power under sun, it only fits on sun-oriented team styles. As such, Drought users such as Torkoal or Ninetales are mandatory teammates for Charizard. Torkoal is also able to support Charizard by setting up Stealth Rocks in order to make wallbreaking easier while being able to remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin. In return, Charizard is able to offensively threaten Pokemon such as Rhyperior, Gastrodon, and Seismitoad that can otherwise hamper Torkoal's effectiveness. Charizard locked into a Fire-type move forces in Water- and Rock-types such as Milotic, Rhyperior, and Diancie, which Grass-type teammates such as Chlorophyll Shiftry can turn into setup opportunities. Charizard is also able to weaken or outright KO opposing Fire-types such as Incineroar and Volcanion that can otherwise check Shiftry, which makes it easier for them to sweep late-game. Other teammates that are capable of abusing sun, such as Darmanitan and Entei, pair well with Charizard, as they are able to soften the opposing team and open each other up for a late-game sweep. Healing Wish support from Gardevoir is also helpful, as it can help Charizard breakthrough teams for a second time; in return, Charizard can threaten Steel-types such as Metagross and Registeel for Gardevoir. Since Charizard is weak to Stealth Rocks, teammates capable of providing hazard control such as Defog Noivern, Flygon, and Xatu make good teammates. Xatu is also capable of bringing Charizard in safely with the use of Teleport.

Charizard's immense firepower while under sun grants it a small niche in the RU tier. However, its mediocre bulk and weakness to chip damage from entry hazards such as Stealth Rock and Solar Power limit Charizard's ability to be a powerful force throughout the game. (I would also add on that Charizard has to compete with Solar Power Heliolisk, as it isn't limited by hazards, way better Speed tier (outspeeds Zarude), and doesn't overlap typing-wise with the rest of the team.) Overheat is Charizard's primary STAB attack, OHKOing OHKO'ing or 2HKOing 2HKO'ing nearly every single Pokemon in the metagame that isn't immune to it while under sun. Scorching Sands hits Pokemon that resist or are immune to Charizard's Fire-type attacks such as Chandelure, Incineroar, and Volcanion Diancie, in addition to OHKO'ing Stakataka. (Solar Beam is an OHKO after Rocks on Diancie while Scoring Sand is a roll to 2HKO even after Rocks. Scoring Sands is a 31% roll to OHKO Stakataka outside of sun while Weather Ball / Overheat OHKOes in sun anyways.) Weather Ball is a slightly weaker yet more consistent Fire-type attack than Overheat under sun, as it still has strong damage output without dropping Charizard's Special Attack.

In return, Charizard is able to offensively threaten Pokemon such as Rhyperior, Gastrodon, and Seismitoad that can otherwise hamper Torkoal's effectiveness. Due to the fact that Charizard tends to be severely threatened by Charizard locked into a Fire-type move forces in Water- and Rock-types such as Milotic, Rhyperior, and Diancie, which Grass-type teammates such as Chlorophyll Vileplume and (Chlorophyll Vileplume just doesn't cut it, as you've to run it alongside Shiftry which is really hard to pull off.) Shiftry can turn into setup opportunities. make good partners for Charizard due to their ability to force out these Pokemon. Additionally, these Pokemon are also solid checks for the aforementioned bulky Water-types and are capable of turning them into setup opportunities. Charizard is also able to weaken or outright KO opposing Fire-types such as Incineroar Chandelure and Volcanion Darmanitan that can otherwise check Shiftry these teammates, which makes it easier for them to sweep late-game. Other teammates that are capable of abusing sun, such as Darmanitan and Shiftry Entei (Shiftry is already mentioned so I added another mention.), pair well with Charizard, as they are able to soften the opposing team and open each other up for a late-game sweep. Since Charizard is weak to Stealth Rocks, teammates capable of providing hazard control such as Defog Noivern, Flygon, and Xatu make good teammates. Xatu is also capable of bringing Charizard in safely with the use of Teleport. (Add a mention of Scarf Gardevoir, as it provides Healing Wish support so Charizard can wallbreak for a second time and it forces in Steel-types for Charizard to exploit.)
