Choice Band Urshifu-S functions as a strong stallbreaker packing a fantastic offensive typing in addition to on of the best Dark type attacks in the game in Wicked Blow. With access to priority in Sucker Punch, pivoting with U-Turn or Poison coverage to nail common Fairy switch-ins in Zacian and Physically Defensive Clefable with Poison Jab, Urshifu-S is capable of forcing unfavorable trades with the opponent or pivoting out of bad matchups. One of the best physical Fighting-type resists in Landorus-T is scared to switch into Choice Band Urshifu-S, as Wicked Blow’s guaranteed crit chance allows Urshifu-S to cleanly 2HKO Landorus-T through the Intimidate Attack drop. 240 Speed and Jolly nature ensures that Urshifu-S is faster than Specs Kyurem-White, Max Speed Landorus-T, Max Speed Great Tusk and Modest 252 Speed EVs Landorus. Tera Dark is the preferred STAB tera option due to the absurd strength and spammability of Wicked Blow, as well as providing a boost to cover some ranges with Sucker Punch. Sucker Punch is useful for 2HKOing weakened fast threats with Tera Dark such as Chi-Yu , Neutral-typing Dragon Dance Arceus formes, Sneasler, and with the invested Speed EVs means you outspeed the standard Choice Band Palafin Jet Punch. Additionally, Sucker Punch can 1HKO Mewtwo and Deoxys without Tera, as well as Ogerpon-H and Regieleki with any Hazard chip +. Tera Poison is an alternative option to snag surprise kills on Clefable and Zacian, as the only other relevant Fairy type in the tier in Magearna takes neutral damage from Urshifu-S’s Close Combat. Urshifu-S most enjoys being fit into Hazard Stack strategies, where Spikes and Stealth Rock stacking teams allow Choice Band Urshifu-S to secure kills with Wicked Blow in situations where it would instead be forced to Sucker Punch such as Iron Bundle and rolls with Tera Dark on Chi-Yu and Palkia-O. Sticky Web makes Urshifu-S faster than the entire unboosted metagame affected by Sticky Webs, outside of Regieleki and Deoxys-S. Gholdengo is a notable partner for its ability to switch into two of Urshifu-S’s biggest weaknesses in Fairy and Fighting moves. Zacian is a fantastic Physical threat to pair with Urshifu-S, who covers the Steel types that Zacian may struggle to handle without Tera. Urshifu-S can struggle into certain defensive Pokemon who commonly run more speed in it, such as Will-O-Wisp Arceus formes and Zamazenta-C. Some Ghost + Dark-Resist cores can carefully dance around your STAB combination and threaten to status Urshifu-S, though U-Turn can help alleviate this. Without Poison Jab, the previously mentioned Fairy types in Physically Defensive Clefable is able to wall Choice Band Urshifu-S, and Zacian can come in and threaten out Urshifu-S completely safe twice unless Urshifu-S utilizes Tera Dark Wicked Blow to 2HKO on the switch-in. If locked into a Dark move, Zamazenta-C can safely enter and immediately threaten a 1HKO with +1 Body Press, as well as Physically Defensive Magearna switching in and threatening with Fleur Cannon. Palkia-O can threaten a 1HKO and bait Sucker Punch by using Substitute. Pairing Urshifu-S with Mewtwo allows Mewtwo to rely less on having to answer Dark types with fighting coverage for Arceus-Dark and Kingambit, freeing up space for powerful status moves or coverage to address the other Dark types' secondary weaknesses.
