Clash of the Semi-Titans [War Story Hurr]

Hey there folks! Some of you might remember me from such adventures as "trolling on Netbattle" and "I'm better than you!". Fortunately I've changed a bit since we last had contact (hopefully for the better). This is going to be my first D/P war story.

Now, I don't have access to Wifi yet so I'm just using the team that I have in game on Shoddybattle to play against someone else that I'm sure you all know and love.

Roy is, as far as I know, a respected and well-known battler on Smogon. We decided to have a little match (I'm not sure he even knew who I was). So here we go!

The Rules

Standard Metagame
Sleep Clause
OHKO/Evasion Ban

So as you can see Item Clause is not in effect, just like the good ol' Netbattle days.

My Team

--Milotic-----Flygon-------Forry---Magnezone--Infernape----Snorlax--

Yay for not having a `in style` team.

(Note the team is in order of appearance.)

The Nitty Gritty

I actually saved the battle log so I`m going to paste it and edit it where I think it would be cool to add in some quips. I`ll also keep the original text from him and I chatting. :) Do enjoy. Note: I`ll only bold the parts in the battle worth paying attention to, aka the kills and turning points.

Roy sent out Breloom.
Legendary Curt sent out Milotic.
Breloom used Substitute.
Breloom lost 25% of its health.
Breloom made a substitute!
Milotic used Ice Beam.
It's super effective!
The substitute took damage for Breloom!
Breloom's substitute faded!
Breloom was badly poisoned!

As soon as he opened with Breloom I was kicking myself. I hate Breloom against this team, it forces me to adopt a very offensive playstyle. I knew I could leave Milotic in to Icebeam freely because if he put this pokemon asleep at least I could switch it in to take hits once in a while.

---

Breloom used Spore.
Milotic fell asleep!
Milotic is fast asleep!
Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 12% of its health.
---

Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 12% of its health.
Forretress's leftovers restored its health a little!
Forretress restored 6% of its health.

Like I said, I had to fight offensively. U-turn was just to take down the sub while I switched to something that could actually take a hit. It worked alright.

---

Breloom used Substitute.
Breloom lost 25% of its health.
Breloom made a substitute!

Forretress used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around your foe's team!
Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!

Breloom restored 12% of its health.

Like I said, offensive. I couldn`t let him just have his way with Breloom and I didn`t want to sacrifice anything else in my team. Oh well.

Score: 5 - 6, Roy`s Lead.

I decided to group these together because they affect eachother. I didn`t U-turn again because I didn`t want to chance hitting him first and then having him sub. Seeing Skarm naturally I tried to go for the quick kill right away, he predicted it.

---

Roy: Yeah
Roy: Saw that Comin from a Mile away
Now I know he was getting cocky.

Magnezone used Hidden Power.
It's super effective!
Gliscor lost 128% of its health.
Roy's Gliscor fainted.

But did you see THAT coming?! I think not, good sir. Choice Scarf sure showed him.

Demonstrating why Flygon and U-turn are a great move combination. Choice Band Flygon is just great with it.

At this point he had given up hope for Gyarados from the constant U-turn abuse and the Stealth Rock, it was dying fast. Why keep trying?

Score: 5 - 4, my favor.

This was great because the U-turn was the perfect move to avoid getting killed by crunch (Magnezone was great for taking that, like a champ) and to deal super-effective damage to TTar, putting him to 11% HP so I could kill him with Hidden Power and keep hidden power out for Breloom.

Score: 5 - 2

Skarmory was trapped!
Magnezone used Thunderbolt.
It's super effective!
A critical hit!
Skarmory lost 264% of its health.
Roy's Skarmory fainted.
Legendary Curt wins!

A critical hit to finish it off. And what seemed to be dumb playing and an advantage in favor of Roy turned around to be a pretty decently won game by myself. He's a good player, but the element of surprise certainly helped me out in this game.

Roy: gg
Roy: good team!
Legendary Curt: Thanks.

Roy has left the room.
Warthog has left the room.

I guess that concludes the battle-report. Any words of advice, or just remarks on the battle would be great. It was fun to play and it was nice to have someone take notice of the team I made. I guess it kind of paid off to not play "standard".
Until next time, this is Curt saying: stay classy Smogon.

A lot of log and not many comments. The battle wasn't that close as well...

Nice Flygon action though.

I liked the Flygon usage as well, but that was a lot of switching. U-turn really pushed you to switch a helluva lot, even if it was to your favor. It's just a good thing that your opponent didn't have SR or spikes.

It wasn't a close battle, but there were a few parts where I chuckled (Most of the cocky-ness) and it was nice to see you beat people like that. Decent commentary too, if it was closer it would've been a great read. I like the formatting too, makes it easier to read the crucial parts.

The story wasn't exciting since it wasn't very close at all. It was an interesting read though. I liked your team.

Boring. I couldn't even get through the whole thing. People read warstories for commentary, not simply to read what happened. Even if this was a good battle (which 4-0s usually aren't), it's not interesting if it's a log with a few sentences of your own stuff here and there, which it was.

Blah.

Mixed reviews, that's pretty cool.

Nah Jabba, I don't like that game, mostly because it was me using an in-style team and I don't really like that. :(

But it was a good match that went down to the wire. Very close. :) Would make an interesting War-Story. If you want I'll do one, you'll have to send me the log though.

for the record i was joking about all the "cocky comments" through out the battle. hence the obvious dumb capitalization. anyway i and the other smogon staff would appreciate if war stories were: a close battle, well written, or interesting. i don't think this war story was any of that :|
good team though, it's a shame infernape (still) rapes me. too bad the war story sucked for everyone else though.
