Claydol was a very good Pokemon back in Gen 3 for being a stalling Pokemon. But now, I'm bringing back it's stalling glory to Gen 8. Claydol isn't a fighter, but a staller. It's great defenses help it survive some good attacks even without the defense boosts. So having this pokemon can stall very easily if you set it up correctly against the right Pokemon.

Cosmic Power helps make the stalling easier, boosting SpD and Def. It's best to set it up against a passive Pokemon like Pyukumuku, Corsola-Galar, and Ferrothorn. Be aware that some Pokemon and use Haze or Clear Smog to clear the boosts, which will make stalling harder. So be careful if the enemy has a Toxapex, Gastrodon, Inteleon, or Chandelure, because there's a chance that they have Haze or Clear Smog. Sand Tomb is used to do damage every turn to the enemy. Thanks to it's mediocre accuracy, it might miss time to time but you will hit the enemy eventually. This will not affect Flying-Type Pokemon like Mandibuzz or Corviknight, so use Rapid Spin to at least get faster and do some chip damage to the enemy immune to Ground-Type moves. Pokemon with Leftovers or ability to heal with Black Sludge (Poison-Types) lowers the damage output for Sand Tomb's trap damage, so keep in mind of that. Rapid Spin is Claydol's main way of getting more speed and removing hazards for its teammates. Since this is a Normal-Type move, Ghost-Type Pokemon can basically switch in and avoid hazard removal on your side. Also, you get speed boost after the use of Rapid spin, so you can be faster than Darmanitan-Galar and Jolly Dracovish after two boosts of speed. Rest is used to restore health and clear status. This is suppose to counter status-based Pokemon that want to status the staller. Toxic is the most relevant status they go for, but Rest helps clear the status and restore health.

My EV spread is pretty self-explanatory. 128 Def and 124 SpD to balance defenses for both kinds of moves. 252 HP to stay bulky and to stall easier. 4 Atk to hit slightly harder.

Hi there. For the time being we're pausing work on this forum, and also don't currently intend on giving Claydol an analysis. In order to post a thread you need permission from a mod, so please keep that in mind moving forward. I'd encouraging reading through our beginner's C&C guide and UU's reservation index to better understand how this subforum works.
