Clefairy

[OVERVIEW]

Although it is completely outclassed by Florges and Aromatisse in a purely defensive role, Clefairy can function as a pivot on some bulky offense teams, offering utility that other Pokemon cannot provide. In particular, its access to Thunder Wave and Healing Wish make it stand out from other Fairy-types as a supporter for offensive teams. Due to its immunity to passive by virtue of Magic Guard and reliable recovery in Soft-Boiled, Clefairy can stay healthy enough to check what it needs to throughout a game. With Special Defense investment, Clefairy performs well as a check to certain special attackers, such as Kyurem and Mega Blastoise, that can give most bulky offense teams trouble. Access to additional utility moves in Stealth Rock and Encore and a generally open fourth moveslot mean that it can customize its moveset to perform exactly the role its team needs it to. However, even with Eviolite, Clefairy suffers from rather poor bulk and is 2HKOed by many physical attackers. In addition, it's complete setup fodder for many bulky setup sweepers, such as Reuniclus and Snorlax, if it lacks Encore. Clefairy is taken advantage of by many offensive Pokemon such as Nidoqueen and Mega Swampert as well. Thus, Clefairy is often not worth using in favor of other Fairy-types, though its niche makes it a good choice on certain teams.

move 1: Moonblast
move 2: Soft-Boiled
move 3: Healing Wish
move 4: Thunder Wave / Stealth Rock
item: Eviolite
ability: Magic Guard
nature: Calm
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Moonblast lets Clefairy beat the offensive Pokemon that it checks and hits Dragon-types for decent damage, but it has disappointing power otherwise. Soft-Boiled lets Clefairy keep itself healthy, and Healing Wish is the main reason to use Clefairy over other Fairy-types, restoring a teammate to full HP. Finally, Thunder Wave allows Clefairy to cripple most of its switch-ins, such as Crobat and Entei, and prevent Pokemon like Feraligatr and Slurpuff from setting up on it freely. Stealth Rock may be used if none of Clefairy's teammates don't have it already, and Encore is a viable option in the fourth slot to temporarily deter slower setup sweepers such as Reuniclus and Snorlax.

Set Details
========

Clefairy's Special Defense is maximized with the given EV spread and a Calm nature in order to take hits from the likes of Mega Blastoise, Mega Sceptile, and Choice Specs Kyurem. Magic Guard negates entry hazard and status damage, allowing Clefairy to switch into and avoid the 2HKO from the above Pokemon. Eviolite is the only viable item on Clefairy, giving it a much-needed increase in bulk.

Usage Tips
========

Clefairy works best on bulky offense teams as a pivot into special attackers such as Hydreigon and Mega Sceptile and as a tool to revive a weakened teammate. Clefairy should use Thunder Wave on expected switches to the likes of Cobalion and Crobat, crippling them and making them vastly easier for a teammate to deal with. Clefairy's offensive teammtes should be preserved in order to revive them late-game with Healing Wish.

Team Options
========

Sweepers such as Swords Dance Mega Abomasnow and Nasty Plot Lucario can take full advantage of Healing Wish and Thunder Wave. Clefairy appreciates teammates that can deal with Fire- and Steel-types; offensive Suicune can deal with many of these threats and also benefits from Healing Wish. Cobalion and Acrobatics Crobat can be useful to switch into Knock Off to help Clefairy preserve its Eviolite against threats such as Krookodile and Mega Absol. Clefairy needs the support of wallbreakers such as Choice Band Tyrantrum that can KO the bulky setup sweepers, such as Suicune and Reuniclus, that it tends to draw in.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Calm Mind can be a decent move in the fourth slot to ensure that Clefairy can win last Pokemon scenarios against Pokemon like Umbreon and non-Calm Mind Florges; however, Clefairy is generally outclassed as a Calm Mind user by Florges and would prefer to run utility moves in its fourth moveslot.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Loss of Eviolite**: Knock Off and Trick severely cripple Clefairy, rendering it unable to check the special attackers it should be able to.

**Steel-types**: Steel-types such as Cobalion, Mega Aggron, and Doublade can easily KO Clefairy, and only Cobalion fears Thunder Wave.

**Poison-types**: Poison-types take negligible damage from Moonblast. Crobat can take complete advantage of Clefairy with Taunt, Dragalge can easily KO it with Sludge Wave or set up Toxic Spikes, and Nidoqueen is immune to Thunder Wave and puts pressure on Clefairy and its teammates.

**Bulky Setup Sweepers**: While Clefairy can cripple sweepers such as Feraligatr and Slurpuff with Thunder Wave, sweepers that don't mind the paralysis such as Calm Mind Suicune and Calm Mind Florges can take advantage of Clefairy.

**Strong Physical Attackers**: Clefairy has rather poor physical bulk, being 2HKOed by Choice Band Heracross, for example. The likes of Mega Aerodactyl, Entei, and Machamp put huge pressure on Clefairy as well, though none of them enjoy switching into Thunder Wave.

Not QC, but dod, you forgot to do the overview.

I think Poison-types should be mentioned in C&C as they take pitiful damage from Clefairy and they can cripple it. Crobat can Taunt and Defog on it easily, while Nidoqueen gets a special mention as it can set up free hazards, is immune to Thunder Wave, and threatens huge damage.

Also
Though none enjoy switching into Thunder Wave, the likes of Mega Aerodactyl, Entei, and Krookodile put huge pressure on Clefairy.

You might want to remove Krookodile from there. :heart:

idk how this works but why didnt you mention Encore , not even in Other Options?

dodmen edit: it's detailed under Moves
