RU Coalossal [QC 2/2] [GP 1/1]

[SET]
name: Utility
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Flamethrower / Fire Blast
move 3: Rock Blast
move 4: Will-O-Wisp / Rapid Spin
item: Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Flame Body
nature: Sassy
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Coalossal's bulk and typing allow it to switch into many of RU's most dangerous special attackers, such as Salazzle, Ninetales, Charizard, Frosmoth, and Vanilluxe and use them as an opportunity to set Stealth Rock. Flamethrower is the preferred Fire-type move for its perfect accuracy and high PP, but Fire Blast is an alternative that has a higher chance to 2HKO Steelix and Virizion. Will-O-Wisp is the more suitable option for the last moveslot, as it cripples Ground-types such as Rhydon and Mudsdale, which would otherwise be able to switch in freely and threaten Coalossal with their STAB moves. Rapid Spin can be used if your team lacks hazard control, but Coalossal doesn't perform this role well, as it is forced out by every Stealth Rock setter in the metagame. Heavy-Duty Boots is the preferred item to patch up its weakness to Stealth Rock, but Leftovers can be used if you pair Coalossal with Xatu. Flame Body is chosen as the ability to punish attackers attempting to use moves that contact with Coalossal, such as U-turn from Passimian and Xatu, with a potential burn. Coalossal can also set Spikes if a teammate already has Stealth Rock in its moveset, but its low Speed, common weaknesses to Ground-, Water- and Fighting-types, and lack of offensive presence prevent it from doing so reliably.

Coalossal fits best on bulkier builds, as they are less hindered by the loss of momentum inherent to Coalossal. Aromatisse is a great partner, as it can handle Scrafty and heal Coalossal with Wish, allowing it to check special threats throughout the game. In return, Coalossal can check the Poison-types that force Aromatisse out. Vileplume is another notable teammate, as it benefits a lot from Salazzle and Ninetales being handled. In return, it can deal with the Ground-, Fighting-, and Water-types that Coalossal struggles with, as well as Curse Snorlax. Coalossal is threatened by Ground-types, so solid switch-ins to them like Virizion, Xatu and Weezing make for great teammates. Finally, Pokemon that appreciate Coalossal dealing with Fire-types, such as the aforementioned Virizion and Vileplume can pair well with it.

Coalossal carves its niche as a valuable check in one teamslot to the two prominent Fire-types of the tier, namely Salazzle and Ninetales, and a hazard setter that is also able to remove them with Rapid Spin. Maximum investiment in HP and Special Defense with a Sassy nature allows it to check numerous special threats like the aforementioned Fire-types, Frosmoth, Vanilluxe, and Whimsicott. (Rewrite this and condense it a lot, something like the following.) Coalossal's bulk and typing allow it to switch into many of RU's most dangerous special attackers, like Salazzle, Charizard, Frosmoth, and Vanilluxe and use them as an opportunity to set up Stealth Rock. Flamethrower is the preferred Fire-type move for its perfect accuracy and high PPs, but Fire Blast is an alternative that has a higher chance to 2HKO Steelix and Virizion. Will-O-Wisp is the more suitable option for the last moveslot, as it cripples Ground-types such as Rhydon and Mudsdale which would otherwise be able to switch in freely and threaten Coalossal with their STAB moves. Rapid Spin can be used if your team lacks hazard control, but Coalossal doesn't pull this role well, as it is forced out by every Stealth Rock setter in the metagame. Heavy-Duty Boots is the preferred item to patch up Coalossal's Stealth Rock weakness. its weakness to Stealth Rock, but Leftovers can be used if you pair Coalossal with Xatu. Regarding its ability choice, Flame Body is the standard choice to punish moves such as predicted U-turn from the likes of Passimian and Rillaboom, but Steam Engine can be used to outpace and threaten Fire-types like Rapidash, Ninetales and Charizard after a boost in Speed. Flame Body is chosen as the ability to punish attackers attempting to make contact with Coalossal, such as U-turn from Passimian and Xatu, with a potential burn. (Steam Engine is a gimmick and has no real use in the meta. Coalossal already forces all the aforementioned Fire-types out as is.) However, Coalossal has a fair share of negative traits that holds it back from being a top tier Pokemon; its typing, while interesting for its ability to easily check most Fire- and Ice-types, leaves it with crippling weaknesses to the common Ground-, Fighting- and Water-types, meaning almost every physical attacker of the tier can force it out, like Passimian, Rillaboom and Copperajah carrying Earthquake, but also every bulky Water-type like Jellicent and Gastrodon. Coalossal is also very passive, with only 80 base Attack and Special Attack and low-powered STAB moves if not running Fire Blast, meaning Pokemon like Scrafty and Snorlax can easily take advantage of it. (This is for comments on the set, not explaining why this thing has like three million flaws and isn't worth much use on serious teams. People can use it for a couple games and figure that out on their own. Here's where you'd want to address that yes, it can also lay Spikes, but said three million flaws prevent it from doing so reliably.)

Coalossal fits best in bulkier builds, as they are less hindered by the loss of momentum inherent to Coalossal. Aromatisse is a great partner, as it can handle Scrafty and heal Coalossal back with Wish, allowing it to check special threats throughout the game. (There's a lot missing from here. Just listing plume isn't enough. Reword this, and provide a couple more examples of solid Ground-type switchins, viriz weezing etc. Also teammates who appreciate Coal dealing with Fire-types, like the aforementioned viriz/plume as well as escav, which loves rocks wearing down its checks.)

tag me again when implemented and I'll look back over it

mavis did an exceptional job catching everything

i am just not comfortable with you mentioning plume beats snorlax though, does it actually? i've never seen the interaction cuz i've never seen a plume try to counter lax in general. maybe just remove that or change it somehow

you have the set listed twice

good job otherwise, 2/2

sorry for the late qc

(also, without factoring in body slam paralysis hax, vileplume can swap between growthing and sapping till it can fire off a couple sludge bombs and dumpster lax. this mention is fine.)
