[Overview]
<p>With base 30 Speed and huge defensive stats, Cofagrigus is a bulky Trick Room setter with excellent support options such as Will-O-Wisp. Its Ghost typing gives it an immunity to Fake Out as well as Fighting-type attacks, allowing it to wall the ever-common Hitmontop. It has a very weird ability that can sometimes rob an opposing Pokemon of its ability. This all seems great, but Dusclops has a very similar movepool and much greater defenses with Eviolite. Furthermore, its mediocre offenses and very bad four-moveslot syndrome make it largely outclassed by Dusclops. Mummy is an inferior ability to Dusclops's Pressure as some of the most useful abilities in Doubles are auto-weather and Intimidate, which activate upon switching in. Most Levitate users do not use contact moves. It can, however, eliminate other great abilities like Serene Grace from Jirachi. Unlike Dusclops, Cofagrigus isn't forced to use Eviolite but instead can use Mental Herb, Sitrus Berry, and Leftovers, giving it a small niche over Dusclops.</p>

<p>This set is fairly straightforward, working like most other Trick Room users in Doubles. Simply use Trick Room the first chance you get, with Mental Herb preventing your opponent from stopping you with Taunt. Rage Powder support from Amoonguss is especially useful, deflecting attacks aimed at Cofagrigus. Amoonguss is then guaranteed to use Spore bar Prankster users such as Sableye and Tornadus Taunting it. Intimidate and Fake Out support from Scrafty, which can do great damage to Tyranitar by 2HKOing Chople Berry variants with Drain Punch while recovering HP, is also good.</p>
<p>Once Trick Room is up, start burning your opponent's team with Will-O-Wisp and providing extra damage for your teammate with Shadow Ball. The burn from Will-O-Wisp is great for crippling Ferrothorn (which outspeeds Cofagrigus in Trick Room), Tyranitar, Scizor, Hitmontop, Garchomp, Metagross, Landorus-T, and even Kyurem-B, as well as putting a timer on Pokemon using Leftovers or recovery moves. Protect is a staple move in Doubles, preventing Cofagrigus from taking damage from spread moves such as Earthquake from the likes of Rhyperior. It also gives Cofagrigus Leftovers recovery if it chooses to run that item over the two already listed.</p>

<p>The EVs maximize Cofagrigus's mediocre base 58 HP as well as giving Cofagrigus a chance to survive Tyranitar's Crunch and possibly avoid a 2HKO if you can land a burn with Will-O-Wisp, while minimizing Cofagrigus's Speed to make the best use of Trick Room. The rest of the EVs are put into Cofagrigus's good Special Defense. If Cofagrigus uses a Sitrus Berry, it is guaranteed to survive the 2HKO from a burned Tyranitar and keeps Cofagrigus alive and kicking for providing further burn support. Slow offensive Pokemon such as Conkeldurr, Rhyperior, Gastrodon, Slowking, and Ferrothorn are the best partners for Cofagrigus. Gastrodon in particular makes a fantastic check to rain teams thanks to the Special Attack boost from Storm Drain.</p>
<p>Cofagrigus has some other viable options, but beware as you must get rid of Protect to fit them on a set. Rest and Chesto Berry lets Cofagrigus last longer, potentially giving it a chance to use Trick Room again later in the match if need be. Pain Split is a shaky recovery option, but does well against Pokemon with high HP such as Cresselia, which can't do much back to Cofagrigus and will fall to repeated Shadow Balls. Finally, Colbur Berry is a good option to get around Tyranitar's Crunch, really frustrating it after a burn.</p>

Nasty Plot can make these moves very powerful, and can be set up before Trick Room, but Taunt is a big obstacle for this strategy and Cofagrigus must sacrifice a lot of bulk to make it as powerful as possible. Calm Mind boosts Cofagrigus's inferior Special Defense, but it will take multiple boosts to make its Special Attack worth using. Imprison can be used to prevent a foe from using Trick Room, allowing it to act as an anti-Trick Room supporter. Disable allows Cofagrigus to shut down an opponent's utility moves such as Protect and Will-O-Wisp, as well as preventing a 2HKO from Tyranitar. After You is an interesting option to allow a speedy teammate to move first even in Trick Room, and is really good for hybrid Trick Room teams. Finally, please do not use Slaking with Fury Cutter to adopt Mummy from Cofagrigus. It's really predictable and your opponent will have no qualms double targeting Slaking before it can even attack.</p>

- Ghost typing makes it immune to Fake Out and Fighting attacks (who's Hitmontop?).
- Great utility moves like Will-O-Wisp.
- Mediocre offenses (unboosted) make Cofagrigus's already limited attacking options very weak.

- Trick Room is Trick Room; keep Taunt users and Tyranitar at bay by partnering it with an Intimidate and / or Fake Out user like Scrafty, or by pairing it with a Rage Powder / Follow Me user like Amoonguss, who has a fast Spore in Trick Room. Basically, don't let Cofagrigus get Taunted.
- Once Trick Room is up, proceed to burn your opponent's physical attackers and chip away at your opponent's health with Shadow Ball. This allows you to switch in your sweepers more easily as well, especially combined with Intimidate.
- Will-O-Wisp does a great job in neutering Ferrothorn (who is slower than Cofagrigus and will usually go first under Trick Room), Tyranitar (to whom Cofagrigus is weak), Scizor, Hitmontop, Garchomp, Metagross, Landorus-T, and even Kyurem-B. It is also useful in putting a time limit on recovery spammers.
- Protect is Protect and gives Cofagrigus protection from a teammate's spread moves (namely Rhyperior's Earthquake) as well as a free turn for Leftovers recovery to keep Cofagrigus as healthy as possible to set up Trick Room later.
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
- Full investment into HP due to its low base 58 HP, rest into Defenses. 220 Def lets it survive 2 Crunches from Tyranitar after a Will-O-Wisp burn.
- Relaxed nature and 0 Spe IVs to make Cofagrigus as slow as possible for use in Trick Room.
- Mental Herb gives Cofagrigus a guaranteed Trick Room, but Sitrus Berry keeps it around longer to possibly pull off another Trick Room.
- Chesto + Rest is another way to give Cofagrigus another chance to set up, making it frustratingly hard to take out. Rest is nearly impossible to fit on this set unless you feel like getting rid of Will-O-Wisp or Protect, both vital tools for Cofagrigus.
- Besides the partners listed, Cofagrigus paves the way for slow sweepers like Conkeldurr, Rhyperior, Ferrothorn, Tyranitar, Heatran, Chandelure.
- Gastrodon makes a fantastic check to rain teams, getting free SpA boosts via Storm Drain.
- Pain Split gives Cofagrigus further recovery options but it's difficult to fit on the set.
- Getting Taunted sucks, and unboosted Shadow Ball is the only real option it has to avoid being useless. Rage Powder / Follow Me helps.
- Colbur Berry to really frustrate Tyranitar after a burn.
- Cofagrigus has quite the movepool, but you're getting rid of Protect or Will-O-Wisp either way since you can't afford to give up TR or Shadow Ball.
- Hidden Power Fighting, but it is so weak even against Pokemon weak to it like Tyranitar. Since Cofagrigus's teammates should be supplying coverage, Protect is a much better option.
- Nasty Plot actually makes Shadow Ball and Hidden Power Fighting worth a damn, giving Cofagrigus perfect neutral coverage, but it requires a turn of set up that could be better spent setting up Trick Room. Also it sacrifices Cofagrigus's overall bulk since it needs all of the offense it can possibly get. It also limits its moves quite a bit, making it choose between Hidden Power Fighting and Protect.
- Calm Mind can be used to patch up its inferior Special Defense, but again, limits Cofagrigus's moves and isn't too powerful after the boost.
- You can bluff a Trick Room set and use Imprison as an anti-Trick Room tool.
- Disable can do a bunch of things like preventing Tyranitar from 2HKOing with Crunch, preventing your opponent from using a super effective move on a teammate, blocking utility moves such as Will-O-Wisp and Protect.
- After You can let speedy teammates take advantage of Trick Room; especially good for hybrid Trick Room teams.
- A partner with a particularly bad ability can hit Cofagrigus to obtain Mummy. For instance, Slaking can hit it with a pathetically weak Fury Cutter to get rid of Truant. However, it's highly predictable and your opponent will have zero qualms about double targeting Slaking and taking it out of the match before it can do anything. Please don't use this strategy, it's really bad.
- Taunt users mess it up pretty badly. Sableye in particular is useful as it is immune to Fake Out from Cofagrigus's teammates and doesn't take much from unboosted Shadow Ball.
- Worn down by status like burn as well as sand / hail.
- Cresselia is a great anti-Trick Room Pokemon; it can use Trick Room on the same turn as Cofagrigus and use a partner to attack Cofagrigus. Shadow Ball doesn't do much even with minimal SpD investment.
- If all else fails, just attack it until it faints and do your best to stall out Trick Room if it succeeds in getting it up. Kill it before it has more chances to use Trick Room.
