Complete Core
Introduction
My first post and first team and what better way to start than a RMT. I used to play during D/P and in the early months of B/W and have recently come back to find my precious Excadrill has been banned to Ubers. Still wanting to keep the sand theme going, I decided to do some testing, find appropriate replacements and overall revamp my team.

Team Building Process
Two Pokemons from my previous team that I knew for sure I wanted to keep.
I then needed a Physical wall. I tried out a few options but finally decided Quagsire due it's amazing ability and great typing.
Then I wanted a Special attacker that could come in on well predicted attacks. Enter Gengar.
Next I wanted a fast, hard hitting fire pokemon. I narrowed it down between Victini and Darmanitan and finally decided Victini because it had higher survivability.
I then wanted a Special Defense wall that could cover my big Rotom-W weakness. I finally decided on Virizion.
After posting my initial team, I received some advice on changes. After testing them out, I switched Tyranitar and Quagsire for Donphan and Rotom-W.

Renzphan @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Nature: Adamant (-Satk, +Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
Originally Bulky Sdef Tyranitar, which was removed due to Sandstorm not contributing to the team. It was suggested that I replace it with Donphan and after some testing, I found it a good replacement. I added Donphan due to it's ability to set up stealth rock, rapid spin and also pack a priority move. I went with the Offensive build because it wanted it to do as much damage and I wanted to use synergy to reduce damage to the team. It's been working great so far and haven't seen any lose in power against weather teams. It's now usually my lead pokemon.
Renzor @ Iron Plate
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 96 Atk / 164 Sdef
Nature: Adamant (-Satk, +Atk)
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Roost
- Sword Dance
Good ol reliable Bulky Scizor. It's good at what it does and what it does is good. I choose this over choiced scizor because it allows for greater survivabilty but still has its sweeping potential. I went leftovers to help with bulk and survivability. EV spread are also to help with it's bulk. Technician because base 90 Bullet punch is too good to pass. Went with Adamant build because it hasn't got any special attacks so can fully focus on attack. Also with priority bullet punch, speed doesn't really matter. Bullet punch is the STAB damage dealer. U-turn over bug bite so it's doesn't faint against Magnezone. Roost is vital to it's bulk and sword dance it for sweeping. This is usually my late game sweeper or revenge killer.
Renzion @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Satk / 252 Spd
Nature: Timid (-Atk, +Spd)
- Roar
- Giga-Drain
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Ice
Initially introduced into the team to help with my Water weakness especially Choice Specs Rotom-W. It usually comes in, takes the hit them 1HKO in return with Giga-Drain (with Steath Rock help). It also provides the fighting type for my team. I choose Life Orb over Leftovers because it usually gains enough health back from Giga-Drain that leftover isn't necessary. I have Calm Mind in this set but it's rarely even used. It's mainly there because of it's shallow Special movepool. Focus Blast to deal with any Steels and Hidden Power Ice for any Dragons or Gliscor which think they can freely set-up. Ev spread is for max damage and also outspeed most non-scarfed pokemon. I've added roar to deal with Substituting pokemon.
Renzgar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Satk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Nature: Timid (-Atk,+Spd)
- Substitute
- Shadow Ball
- Disable
- Focus Blast
Providing the Fight and Ground immunity for my team, this pokemon is my main special attacker. I usually switch it in on obvious Ground or fightning moves, proceed to sub up and then wreck havoc. In team previews, if the opposing team has a fightning type that they'll probably put first to counter Tryanitar, then I switch this to my lead instead. I chose leftovers to allow more uses of substitute and also nullify sandstorm damage. The Ev spread and nature is for maximum damage and speed. Shadow Ball for STAB, Thunderbolt to deal with water and flying types and focus blast for steels.
Renzom - W @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs:252 Satk / 252 Spd / 4 Sdef
Nature: Modest (-Atk, +Satk)
- Hydro Pump
- Trick
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power Fire
Originally Quagsire, it was suggested that I take it out for Choice Rotom-W. I've found it effective so far, dealing nicely with Rain teams and punch holes in teams. It also allows my team to compete in regular OU instead of just Dream world. I'm undecided about the nature but I've been using Modest. Ev spread for maximum speed and damage.
Renztini @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4HP
Nature: Adamant (-Satk, +Atk)
- V-Create
- Fusion Bolt
- U-turn
- Brick Break
The speed demon of my team. It's main task is to spam V-creates for huge damage. It's also a decent counter against Sun teams, OHKO Ninetales after stealth rock damage. I usually save it till late game where it's V-Create would create huge dents in teams. I chose scarf over band because V-create does enough damage and I need it as fast as possible. My decision for choosing Victini over Darmatian was based on the fact that Darmatian's Flare Blitz did recoil damage. If you factor in Stealth rock, Sandstorm and occasionally taking hits, it wouldn't survive long and allows pokemon such as scizor to wreck havoc. Victini doesn't take recoil so in theory, it should last longer. Ev Spread and nature are for maximum damage and speed. Fusion bolt is to deal with switching in Water and Flying types. Brick Break is to deal with Steel types in rain. U-Turn is there because most Fightning types will switch out from fear of Zen Headbutt into a dark or psychic type and U-turn will exploit that fear.
Conclusion
This team has been doing very well. Having a total of 6 immunities great synergy with each other, I have high hopes for this team. It's been winning more than losing and most of my losses are from poor decisions. Hopefully as I practise more with the team I'll get more experience and all together become a better trainer.
