Controlling The Storm

This team is my first OU Drought team. I choose Drought as the weather because of the boost to Fire-Type moves, and I personally love Chlorophyll abusers. This team has done good and bad. Played about 20 matches with it, and I feel it is just missing something so I hope you guys can help me out!

Ninetales (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Drought
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Fire Blast
- Energy Ball
- Hidden Power [Fighting]

Fairly obvious Drought set-upper. Can do some serious damage with Fire Blast and is used mostly for weather, and to bait other weather starters on the double switch with either Espeon or Gastrodon. This thing is a monster if left unchecked by other weather teams.

Espeon (F) @ Light Clay
Trait: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 12 Def / 244 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Fighting]

I needed something for entry hazards and this is my answer. It also helps that it doubles as a Dual Screener, and I can usually get both screens off with this guys reasonable bulk and switch into something that can sweep better such as Lilligant or Haxorus, the latter being the one I switch to the most. HP Fighting is mainly for the coverage against fellow Ttar, Heatran, and Blissey but usually Psyshock will do more to Blissey than HP fighting.

Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Pursuit
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower

My revenge killer of choice. STAB Bullet Punch powered by Choice Band is a force to be reckoned with. I'm sure you have seen CB Scizors before so you should know what to expect from it.

423.gif

Gastrodon (F) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Storm Drain
EVs: 240 HP / 252 SAtk / 16 SDef
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Earth Power
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Grass]

This thing is a monster and has won me countless games. The somewhat odd set surprises many opponents who just look at it as a tank and try to wall it. ESPECIALLY Rotom-W. Rotom-W needs to get a new warranty after being hit with Spec'd HP Grass. That and Rotom-W cannot do anything offensive to it besides Pain Split, but you can work around that.

549.gif

Lilligant (F) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Quiver Dance
- Sleep Powder
- SolarBeam
- Hidden Power [Fire]

My Chlorophyll sweeper of choice. Sleep Powder to put the foe to sleep, then basically a free Quiver Dance even if they don't switch out. This combined with the Dual Screens from Espeon makes this thing a powerhouse. Considering replacing SolarBeam with Giga Drain but not sure.

Haxorus (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Mold Breaker
EVs: 36 HP / 252 Atk / 220 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Brick Break
- Outrage
- Earthquake

This guy will sweep just about anything that gets in its way with Dual Screens up. I can usually safely get a Swords Dance under my belt while taking minor damage, then get out the dust collector because I'm about to sweep!

Hope you enjoyed the RMT! Remember this is my first Sun Team in OU so please go easy on me ;)

Being a sun team player as well I can seen as a pretty good team with haxorus and scizor acting as power players and with lillagant taking advantage of the sun. the only misfit I can see is gastrodon, I can see he's there to soak up water attacks for droughttales. Not to mention a surprise member for your team. But it can easily be checked by solarbeam.

What would you suggest for a replacement then? I'm open to all suggestions but I really enjoy having the coverage I get with Gastrodon.

If you're trying to go for the coverage angle, gliscor may be able to fit the bill nicely with poisen heal or a acrobatics set. Or perhaps a flash fire fighter like heatran. The heatran set I'm using could easily check your slug and eat some cake while it's at it. Not to mention able to desimate your haxorus, and sczior. Which is in my own sun team thread, go check it out!

I agree with using a sub toxic Gliscor. This is a speedy variant, able to outrun and pp stall non choice scarf Rotom-W. Here it is:

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 36 Def / 220 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
-Earthquake
-Substitute
-Protect
-Toxic

EQ hurts steel types immune to toxic, toxic and sub/protect do the rest.

I also see that you don't have a fire sweeper. Scarf Darmantian with Flare Blitz destroys in sun.

The thing is, I wouldn't know what to replace on the team for Heatran or Gliscor. The only thing I can really think of for replacing is Espeon but then I would lose my Magic Bounce for Ferrothorns, Skarms, Blisseys and any other walls and I would also lose Dual Screen support for Haxorus which is vital to the team.

Considering replacing Gastrodon with Heatran but still not decided on the set. Hopefully something that includes HP ice so I don't lose coverage

Oh and bump!

I'm not really good with this and everyone else probably disagrees with me. The two problems I'm thinking are with Scizor and Gastrodon. I don't really see why you would use a scizor on a sun team. It had a X4 weakness to fire and all you are doing is making fire type moves stronger. Next I wouldn't really put gastrodon in because it makes his stab Surf weaker. I may be wrong but what about a Dragonite instead of scizor. You can still get a priorty move with extremespeed and you can also give it fire blast.

Hi there!

Specially Defensive Heatran seems like it would be the better fit on your team over gastro. It provides a much needed fire immunity while being a general great fit onto sun teams.

I would consider switching espeon for Hitmontop, as it can reliably spin, as well as check dangerous threats such as Heatran and Terrakion.

And last but not least, I would suggest running DD 'Nite over Haxorus, as it has a much easier time setting up, and adds some much needed bulk to the team.

I would suggest running a Venusaur over Lilligant. Sure you'll lose a good amount of speed and power but you'll get more moves for coverage especially against Dragons.

Venusaur@ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Modest
~ Growth
~ Energy Ball / SolarBeam
~ Hidden Power Fire / Hidden Power Ground
~ Sludge Bomb / Sleep Powder

Growth allows you to boost your special attack to monstrous levels capable of destroying many threats including but not limited to Latios (OHKO with Sludge Bomb after two rounds of SR), Latias (2HKO with Sludge Bomb), Standard TTar (2HKO with Energy Ball), Politoed (OHKO with Energy Ball), and Heatran (OHKO with HP Ground). The choice of Hidden Power really varies on which Pokemon you want to hit harder. Fire hits Scizor and other steel types bar Heatran which is killed by Ground. You'll hit almost the same amount of steels with Ground anyway but Fire nets more important Pokemon. Sludge Bomb is for Dragons mainly who resist Energy Ball and HP Fire / Ground. It also receives STAB and is your most powerful move against Pokemon who are neutral to both Energy Ball and your chosen HP. If you choose HP Fire, you better follow Scissor's advice of using Hitmontop as a spinner. You can also go for Donphan as it has Rapid Spin and Stealth Rock which is crucial to Venusaur's sweep.

Hitmontop @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Nature: Impish
~ Rapid Spin
~ Foresight / Toxic
~ Close Combat
~ Stone Edge / Sucker Punch

Defensive Donphan @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Nature: Impish
~ Rapid Spin
~ Stealth Rock
~ Earthquake
~ Toxic / Roar / Knock Off

Offensive Donphan @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 242 Atk / 4 Def
Nature: Impish
~ Rapid Spin
~ Stealth Rock
~ Earthquake
~ Ice Shard / Stone Edge
