Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- U-turn
- Fire Punch / Ice Punch
- Healing Wish

Posting another teammate because the discussion is pretty dead at the moment. Jirachi works pretty similar as Rotom-H because it provides momentum Gyarados + Toxicroak need. Jirachi is able to check threats such as Gardevoir, Kyurem-B, Diancie and Terrakion with Iron Head and pivot out with U-Turn to gain momentum. Fire Punch to hit Mega Scizor (Skamory isn't hurt by Fire Punch) but Ice Punch is also great to get damage against Tankchomp and Landorus-T. Healing Wish is great to give Toxicroak and Gyarados a second opportunity to sweep if they get weakened or statussed early in the match.
Again EQ -> Taunt on Gyarados because you still won't break electric types 1v1 and they will still be threatening without a good pivot against these electric types. Without Taunt Mega Sableye and Skarmory just wall this core too easily. Your matchup against offense will still be pretty nice with Gyarados + Strong Priority bar fast electric types and Lando-T so already having a way to deal with stall is pretty nice.

Really sorry I haven't updated partners for the previous cores lately, I just finished them up now. Gyara + Croak still in progress in that regard.

Okay here's the new core for this week:

manectric-mega.gif

Manectric @ Manectite
Ability: Lightningrod
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Ice]

weavile.gif

Weavile @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Low Kick

Here is a link to the good cores post explaining this core

I'll drop a brief explanation here as well. Manectric's ability to force switches gives Weavile better opportunities to come in. On top of that these two have good offensive synergy with Weavile threatening most ground types that check Manectric while Mane takes on Keldeo, Azu, Scizor and Klefki for Weavile.

Discuss threats

clefable.gif

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Protect

Honestly, just about any Clefable set is a threat to this core as both members fail to 2HKO Clefable (Weavile has a 2% chance to do so against the CM + MG set though). In return, Clefable can setup Calm Minds in their face and regain its health back with Wish + Protect. If Weavile happens to run SD over Low Kick, this Clefable variant can easily put a stop to its sweep, making it an even more relevant threat to this core.
252 SpA Mega Manectric Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Clefable: 163-193 (41.4 - 49.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 86-101 (21.8 - 25.6%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Icicle Crash vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 149-177 (37.9 - 45%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Manectric: 118-141 (41.9 - 50.1%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO
+3 0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Manectric: 295-348 (104.9 - 123.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Weavile: 224-266 (79.7 - 94.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (guaranteed OHKO after SR)
+1 0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Weavile: 338-398 (120.2 - 141.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
EVs: 28 HP / 252 SpA / 228 Spe
Timid Nature
- Overheat
- Flash Cannon
- Earth Power
- Stone Edge

Barely outspeeds both Pokemon and OHKOes both of them with STAB Overheat. It can also switch into Mega Manectric (Thunderbolt does 51.8% max) and Ice attacks from Weavile (avoid Knock Off and Low Kick!) . It 4x resists Ice so you can laugh at Weavile's priority move. Other moves are standard on Scarf Tran.

I got Quaggy

quagsire.gif

Quagsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Recover

Quagsire takes almost nothing from Manectric, shutting down its momentum by blocking Volt Switch. Weavile is slightly shaky because Icicle Crash can flinch, but Quag is a solid stop to Weavile >%80 of the time. Quag can use either of these mons as opportunities to fish for Scald burns or spread Toxic.

252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Icicle Crash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 138-164 (35 - 41.6%) -- 74.7% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Mega Manectric Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Quagsire: 96-113 (24.3 - 28.6%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

rhyperior.gif

MC Hammer @ Leftovers
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 212 HP / 44 Atk / 252 Def
Adamant Nature
- Rock Blast/Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Punch/Toxic

This rock checks both pokemon effectively due to its ability, sheer bulk, and offensive presence. The EV's allow Rhyperior to survive a +2 LO Iron Head from Adamant Bish while the remaining EV's were invested into Attack to maintain its offensive presence, however, they can be invested into SpDef if preferred.

252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Icicle Crash vs. 212 HP / 252 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 170-201 (40 - 47.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 212 HP / 252 Def Rhyperior: 129-152 (30.4 - 35.8%) -- 0.3% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 212 HP / 252 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 160-189 (37.7 - 44.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Ice Shard vs. 212 HP / 252 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 82-96 (19.3 - 22.6%) -- possible 6HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Mega Manectric Flamethrower vs. 212 HP / 0 SpD Rhyperior: 82-96 (19.3 - 22.6%) -- possible 6HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Mega Manectric Hidden Power Ice vs. 212 HP / 0 SpD Solid Rock Rhyperior: 163-193 (38.4 - 45.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
44+ Atk Rhyperior Rock Blast (3 hits) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Weavile: 348-420 (123.8 - 149.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

-1 44+ Atk Rhyperior Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Manectric: 260-308 (92.5 - 109.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

This mon truly cannot be touched.

gyarados-mega.gif

Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Crunch
- Waterfall
- Earthquake

Sets up on Weavile pre-mega, then can Mega up and OHKO with +1 Waterfall:

-1 252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Icicle Crash vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Gyarados: 138-164 (41.6 - 49.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+1 252 Atk Mold Breaker Mega Gyarados Waterfall vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Weavile: 315-372 (112 - 132.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Also OHKOs MMan with +1 EQ:

252 Atk Mold Breaker Mega Gyarados Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Manectric: 298-352 (106 - 125.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Can even beat MMan 1v1 by taking a TBolt from full, DDing and EQing:

252 SpA Mega Manectric Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Gyarados: 242-288 (73.1 - 87%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

even lives an Ice Shard from Weavile after that if it didn't take SR damage, unless both moves get a really high roll:

252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Gyarados: 38-44 (11.4 - 13.2%) -- possible 8HKO

Venusaur-Mega @ Venusaurite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 248 HP / 168 Def / 72 SpA / 20 Spe
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Synthesis

Thanks to its good bulk and Thick Fat, Mega Venusaur is able to wall ManecVile hard. With the defensive spread above, M-Venu isn't 2HKO'd by any of the core's attacks, even after SR, and has the option of 2HKOing them w/ Sludge Bomb, healing itself w/ Synthesis, or hitting them while healing itself w/ Giga Drain. So RIP, core, basically.

006-mega-x.gif

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 248 HP / 148 SpD / 112 Spe
Careful Nature
- Earthquake / Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Will-O-Wisp
- Roost

Mega Manectric cries whenever he faces Charizard-X with good hazards removal. Charizard-X takes Thunderbolt really well and can Roost off any damage it takes. Against Weavile, Charizard-X has a good chance of surviving the 2hko from Icicle Crash (91,8% chance to survive) so when rocks are not up, Charizard X can also switch in against anything bar Icicle Crash and Life Orb stall Weavile assuming it doesn't flinch hax with icicle crash. In a 1v1 situation, Zard X can burn Weavile right off the bat so it will only take 25% from Icicle Crash.

okay I really need to start reserving things too Albacore

Kyurem-Black (Scarf here but any set can work, see defensive calcs)
Kyurem-Black @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Fusion Bolt
- Dragon Claw
- Iron Head
kyurem-black.jpg

This beast annihilates the core.
-1 252+ Atk Teravolt Kyurem-B Outrage vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Manectric: 211-249 (75 - 88.6%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
This is with intimidate, you still guarantee a KO if mane volt switched out once. Plus, if you don't get intimidated, it easily blows back manectric. And even if mane lives,
252 SpA Mega Manectric Overheat vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Kyurem-B: 158-187 (40.4 - 47.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
You can sponge any hit

252+ Atk Teravolt Kyurem-B Outrage vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Weavile: 373-441 (132.7 - 156.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO BLOWN BACK
and even if you are sash weavile for some strange reason, kyurem has insane bulk too
252 Atk Weavile Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Kyurem-B: 248-292 (63.4 - 74.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO Guaranteed live after rocks. But practically all weavile are life orb, so you just obliterate it.
Kyu-B is an offensive powerhouse that destroys these guys, and also has enough bulk to take a hit. Why it isn't in S rank is beyond me, but it slaughters the listed core.

sylveon.gif

Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 SpD
Bold Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell

Standard Sylveon set. Not only does it beat both of these mons in a 1v1, it can win even on switch-in.

0 SpA Pixilate Sylveon Hyper Voice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Manectric: 165-195 (58.7 - 69.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Mega Manectric Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 36 SpD Sylveon: 118-139 (29.9 - 35.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery (basically zero)

0 SpA Pixilate Sylveon Hyper Voice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Weavile: 314-372 (111.7 - 132.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Icicle Crash vs. 252 HP / 220+ Def Sylveon: 165-196 (41.8 - 49.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

It can even eat up a poison jab or iron tail from a Weavile.
252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Poison Jab vs. 252 HP / 220+ Def Sylveon: 208-247 (52.7 - 62.6%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Iron Tail vs. 252 HP / 220+ Def Sylveon: 263-309 (66.7 - 78.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Choice Scarf Excardrill
excadrill.gif

Excadrill @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin

Standard ScarfDrill. Not the most common thing, but is still viable. It is certainly not a switchins to both of those mons attack, but rather an offensive threat that outspeeds both pokemon and KO them. Scarf Excadrill's EQ still knocks out Megaman after Intimidate and Iron Head obliterates Weavile.

-1 252+ Atk Excadrill Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Manectric: 296-350 (105.3 - 124.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Excadrill Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Weavile: 416-492 (148 - 175%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Excadrill Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Weavile: 261-307 (92.8 - 109.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Excardrill is not a switchin!
vs Weavile:
252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Icicle Crash vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Excadrill: 257-304 (71.1 - 84.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Excadrill: 121-144 (33.5 - 39.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Icicle Crash/Knock Off + Ice Shard kills Excadrill
vs Megaman
252 SpA Mega Manectric Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Excadrill: 288-340 (79.7 - 94.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
Actually Excadrill can switch in into non Overheat Megaman, even after rocks, but takes way too much.

Could run Jolly. EQ is still an OHKO vs Mega Manectric after rocks

Conkeldurr @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 236 SpD / 20 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Ice Punch
- Poison Jab/ Knock Off

This core struggles against AV Conkeldurr as it beats both pokemon one on one. Also, neither Weavile or Mega Manetric is a good switch in on this pokemon.

Mach Punch easily KOs Weavile:
252+ Atk Conkeldurr Mach Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Weavile: 432-508 (153.7 - 180.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Mega Manetric's T-bolt damage can be easily healed by Drain Punch:

Thunderbolt damage- 252 SpA Manectric Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 236 SpD Assault Vest Conkeldurr: 90-106 (25.6 - 30.1%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
Drain Punch damage- -1 252+ Atk Conkeldurr Drain Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Manectric: 144-169 (51.2 - 60.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Presenting...

altaria-mega.gif

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Return
- Roost

Mega Altaria is quite annoying for this core, as it is capable of setting up on Mega Manectric and proceeding to OHKO both Mega Manectric and Weavile with Return. It doesn't take much from Mega Manectric's Hidden Power Ice, and with a Jolly nature outspeeds both Pokemon after a Dragon Dance. It can also switch into Mega Manectric's Thunderbolt / Flamethrower if needed and beating the core.

Calcs:

+1 252 Atk Mega Altaria Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Manectric: 348-410 (123.8 - 145.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Mega Manectric Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Altaria: 130-154 (44.6 - 52.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252 Atk Pixilate Mega Altaria Return vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Weavile: 1088-1284 (387.1 - 456.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

If it sets up on Mega Menectric, it takes about half from HP Ice, then Weavile finishes it off with Ice Shard.

252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Altaria: 151-179 (51.8 - 61.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

I call Mega Swampert

Swampert throws Mane to the dumpster
-1 252+ Atk Mega Swampert Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Manectric: 320-378 (113.8 - 134.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

And it can kill Weavile with Low Kick
252+ Atk Mega Swampert Low Kick (60 BP) vs. 0 HP / 24 Def Weavile: 440-520 (156.5 - 185%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Okay so I've had this idea since the inception of the thread but I didn't want to bring it up until it had been going on for a while so here goes.

I know that generally we discuss cores of 2 pokemon -- first threats and then partners. However most defensive cores require more than 2 pokemon or they are too easily threatened. I would like to discuss cores of 3 pokemon sometimes so that I can incorporate more defensive cores.

The procedure with 3 pokemon cores would be much simpler; we discuss threats for half the week and then I mark the top 3 threats. I would most likely do 2 cores in a week with this format and then revert back to the original format.

So my question is do you guys think this is trying to do too much / is it too confusing to mix up the format? If so I can just stick to the way things are going which I think is working out pretty well. I'm interested to hear feedback regarding this so please let me know.

You may also continue normal discussion as always.

Beedrill @ Beedrillite
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Protect
- U-Turn
- Poison Jab
- Knock Off

Can revenge kill both mons after rocks most off he time.
252 Atk Adaptability Mega Beedrill Poison Jab vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Manectric: 234-276 (83.2 - 98.2%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Dont need to calc Weavile lol.

Beedrill is pretty unappreciated in this meta mostly because of his fraility and weakness to priority and hazards but with good team support; Beedrill can be hard to handle since its fast af and spams crazy powerful u turns.

It can't come in on much but it lives low kick easily and can take a t bolt from full if need be.

Camerupt @ Cameruptite
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 168 HP / 252 SpA / 88 Spe
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Ancient Power
- Toxic

Although it can't switch in safely, Mega Camerupt can deal OHKO both members of this core with Super Effective Fire and Ground coverage while also having Ancient Power to blast Talonflame and Mega Charizard-Y. It also trolls most Electric-types who struggle to damage it while hitting them hard with Sheer Force-boosted moves. Toxic is used to cripple bulky Pokemon such as Slowking, Rotom-W and Mega Latias.

184.gif

Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Superpower

Azumarill is a cool partner for this core because it deals with the two biggest threats: Clefable and Mega Charizard X. Its natural offenses also let Azumarill muscle past the likes of Mega Camerupt, Mega Beedrill, Excadrill, Mega Gyarados, Sylveon, Kyurem-B, and Conkeldurr. The wallbreaking potential it provides is also extremely beneficial as both Mega Manectric and Weavile work amazingly late-game when opposing foes are weakened. Mega Manectric also provides pivoting support in Volt Switch.

With Azumarill, the core compounds its weakness to Quagsire and Mega Venusaur however. Other sets viable are Belly Drum to take advantage of the momentum provided.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 168 SpD / 88 Spe
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Taunt

Heatran deals with Clefable and Mega Venusaur, 2 of the biggest threats to this core. It als oacts as a secondary answer to Water types like Azumarill and Keldeo, as well as a switchin to Fairy-type and Fire-type moves which trheaten this core. It also provides teh core with a SR setter and something that can pu pressure on bulkier teams, so it's a very solid partner to teh core overall.

Talonflame @ Choice Band
Ability: Game Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe /4 Def (use any spread for cb talon your like)
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U- Turn
- Sleep Talk/Toxic idfk
CB Talon has awesome synergy with this core. The offensive SD also works but I like the U- Turn when using Manectric.
So ya Talon can beat a few annoying mons like Venusaur, loppuny, clef, sabeleye that would be challenging to take out.
U- Turn is the most important move here tbh. Talon lures in a lot of mons that can be beaten by Weavile or Manectric. Think Heatran, Bulky chomp, RotomW, ttar, landT, Hippo. They all lose to Weavile or Manectric.

Terrakion @ Lum Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock
- Swords Dance

Provides Stealth Rock which helps to wear down Unaware Clefable, Sylveon, Zard-X, Kyurem-B, Heatran, Gyarados and Mega Venusaur so that the core can break through them easier. Terrakion's dual STABs, together with Swords Dance, allow it to wallbreak effectively while also destroying Zards, Gyarados, Kyurem-B, Excadrill, Mega Beedrill and Heatran while also denting Mega Venusaur and Clefable very hard. Unfortunately, Terrakion can't do anything to Quagsire, Conkeldurr and Swampert.
