[Overview]

Corphish the crayfish has gotten some nice new additions from Black and White, the most notable being Adaptability. Doubling STAB along with Corphish's large Attack and decent bulk creates a number of useful sets to go with your team. With access to useful moves such as Dragon Dance, it can potentially create a nice bulky sweeper when paired with an Eviolite. Allowing this little guy to set up even one Dragon Dance is going to make him hard to wall. it hard to wall him. Having Hyper Cutter as an ability means Corphish can't be stopped by Murkrow who carry FeatherDance being a very good plus in his sweeping capabilities. A drawback to Corphish, however, is that unlike many Water-types, it doesn't get a decent Speed stat. Corphish is arguably outclassed by Krabby when not running a Dragon Dance set.

[SET]
name: Bulky Dragon Dance
move 1: Dragon Dance
move 2: Waterfall
move 3: Crunch
move 4: Brick Break
item: Eviolite
ability: Adaptability
nature: Adamant
evs: 172 HP / 76 Def / 156 SpD / 76 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]

Corphish has the moves and the stats to run a good bulky sweeping set. With access to Dragon Dance, it has the ability to invest more EVs into bulk while it raises its offensive stats. Carrying Waterfall is great as with Adaptability, because Corphish's STAB modifier becomes 2x, allowing it to hit extra hard. Crunch is useful for hitting Ghost-types such as Frillish which will , allowing it to wall both of its other attacks. Brick Break is for taking care of Frillish and Carvanha.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Eviolite is essential on this set; without it, Corphish will be hard pressed to set up Dragon Dances and sweep. A Jolly nature is preferred for the extra Speed, and after a Dragon Dance, Corphish's Attack will be high regardless of the nature boost (for those of the members who are younger or just not able to read as well; they may not fully understand that sentence, so just add that on if you will please). This set is designed to take enough hits to get off at least 2 Dragon Dances, hence the lack ofAttack of Attack EVs. After its first Dragon Dance, Corphish hits 16 Speed, and after the second, it will have 21, outspeeding all unboosted Pokemon in the tier.

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Waterfall
move 2: Crunch
move 3: Brick Break / X-Scissor
move 4: Return
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Adaptability
nature: Jolly
evs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 236 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]

Running a Choice Scarf set is good because it allows Corphish to make up for its lack of Speed. Having great coverage allows Corphish to easily run a choice set. Waterfall is for taking out those pesky Fire-types that may threaten your team. Crunch allows it to hit Ghost-types such as Misdreavus and Gastly. Brick Break is great for covering Dark-types such as Scraggy and Carvanha. Return is for the high damage and admirable neutral coverage. X-Scissor hits and Grass-types hard and will hit Dark-types harder than Brick Break.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

With a Choice Scarf, there are a few drawback s drawbacks. Losing the ability to switch between attacks inevitably makes it setup bait for various users of Spikes like Ferroseed as well as setup like Scraggy. Using Return/Brick Break will coax out Pururiru and Misdreavus. Crunch will draw out Dark-types such as Murkrow. When in doubt, Waterfall is likely your best option, gaining adaptability STAB, having good neutral coverage, and having few immune enemies. With a Choice Scarf, it will hit 21 Speed allowing, Corphish to outspeed every non-scarfed Pokemon.

[SET]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Waterfall / Crabhammer
move 3: Crunch
move 4: Brick Break
item: Oran Berry
ability: Adaptability
nature: Jolly
evs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 236 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]

Swords Dance is one of the few things Corphish does better than Krabby this generation. With Adaptability, Waterfall gets a larger STAB boost and gives you the potential to do some pretty nice damage. Carrying Crunch and Brick Break provides great coverage on every type. Crabhammer is an alternative if you prefer power over accuracy.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Oran Berry is for bringing Corphish's health back up after that Swords Dance. Jolly is allows it to hit 14 Speed. Corphish will have to watch out for Will-o-Wisp and Thunder Wave.

[Other Options]

There is the choice to run a Hone Claws + Crabhammer set to increase the accuracy of the move and making Corphish hit harder, but a Swords Dance-boosted Waterfall will hit harder than a Hone Claws-boosted Crabhammer. If you wish to run a more offensive spread, you can use 236 Atk / 236 Speed with a Jolly nature, Life Orb (0 HP IV's to make Life Orb recoil 1 HP) and use Adaptability.

[Checks and Counters]

Counters for Corphish are common, but it will still be hard for them to do the job taking its bulk into account. Corphish's best teammates are also its greatest enemies. Anything that has high Special Attack and access to moves like Thunderbolt such as Misdreavus or Magnemite will do the job. Grass-types such as Bulbasaur or Ferroseed have super effective STAB moves and will wall it with ease. Frillish will switch in on many variants of Corphish, gladly welcoming a Water Absorb boost. Mischievous Heart Murkrow with FeatherDance does a number to the Dragon Dance set. With Priority from its ability, it will completely sidestep the Dragon Dance Speed Boosts and drop its Attack with FeatherDance, making it unable to set up effectively on Murkrow.
sweepers
