Project Counter That Threat! [Week 6: Doduo]

RIP I was gonna post cotton guard swablu but I'm too late.

Best counter is obv Pumpkaboo. It can cripple pawn switchins with will o, or bray itself, and spinblocks, and has synthesis giving it reliable recovery, which is all around better than any of these other Bray switchins offer.

The voting period is over and the winner is Pumpkaboo!

Week 2's threat is Nasty Plot Vullaby:

Vullaby @ Eviolite
Level: 5
Ability: Weak Armor
EVs: 116 HP / 236 SpA / 116 Spe
Modest Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Air Slash
- Dark Pulse
- Heat Wave

Post your counters! :]

Gummy

...three, smiles go for miles!
Elekid @ Life Orb
Level: 5
Ability: Static
EVs: 240 SpA / 236 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Psychic
- Hidden Power Ground

Elekid switches in on all of Vulla's attacks (before a boost) and OHKOes with tbolt after rocks. If vulla sets up on the switch-in, Elekid can still take a +2 dark pulse from full health. Elekid also doesn't trigger Weak Armor so you don't have to worry about getting outsped.

Munchlax @ Berry Juice
Ability: Thick Fat
Level: 5
EVs: 36 Atk / 196 Def / 236 SpD
Careful Nature
- Body Slam
- Whirlwind
- Fire Punch
- Recycle

Munchlax has a monstruous natural Special Defense, being 3HKO at +2 of its STABs, and being able to act as a setup fodder thanks to Whirlwind, and Body Slam can cripple its Speed with luck, besides lowering Vullaby's Defense. It also can recover whenever it wants with Recycle + Berry Juice.

Lickitung @ Eviolite

EVs: 196 HP / 76 Def / 236 SpD
Impish Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Body Slam
- Dragon Tail

Meet Munchlax's slightly physically fatter friend. This thing takes all of Vullaby's moves with ease, can potentially paralyse it with Body Slam, but the main thing is Dragon Tail, as it can remove all of Vullaby's boosts with ease, while it also has plenty of utility thanks to Wish passing. Realistically though, this is a worse Munchlax, vote for that.

Lil' old Spritzee -

Spritzee @ Eviolite
Level: 5
Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 212 HP / 196 Def / 12 SpA / 76 SpD / 12 Spe
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Calm Mind

Takes the hits, wish+protects, and Calm minds up to wreck shop. Moonblast 2HKOs without any setup anyway and you can stall out the heatwaves by wishing/CMing if needed.

lol guys this is "counter that threat" not "phase that threat"

Ability: Unaware
Level: 5
EVs: 204 HP / 76 Atk / 196 SpD / 32 Spe
Careful Nature
- Return

Step 3 : Sleep Talk and take hit no 1
Step 4 : Sleep Talk and take hit no 2
Step 5 : Rest
Step 6 : Go to Step 3

You win every time unless you get flinched the 2 turns immediately following the switch in.

Heres come calcs

236+ SpA Vullaby Dark Pulse vs. 204 HP / 196+ SpD Eviolite Bidoof: 7-9 (28 - 36%) -- 1.1% chance to 3HKO

If lucky with Rock Blast, Onix 2HKOes Vullaby with Rock Blast, and Onix outspeeds it so it doesn't matter if Vullaby sets up or not, although if Dark Pulse makes Onix flinch, there might be a problem but Berry Juice brings Onix back to full health and if Vullaby sets up, it can OHKO Onix with Dark Pulse but Onix lives and goes back to full health and kills Vullaby anyways. The only way for Vullaby to kill Onix is it to be extremely lucky with flinch, other than that Onix always wins.

Remember to vote for the nomination that you believe is the most effective and viable Nasty Plot Vullaby counter.
(e.g. not Shieldon or Bidoof, but nobody would ever nominate silly Pokemon like those anyway... right?)

Munchlax

In a 1v1 scenario Spritzee is pretty solid, but when switching into NP, even one flinch can spell trouble for it. Munchlax is super fat and can get flinched multiple times and still win, so it gets my vote.

Onix, for everyone saying fucking Munchlax then I just want to point out that Munchlax is actually not that hard for Vullaby to beat, as long as Vull is played correctly. While Onix too can be flinched to death, the chances and risks involved are much higher than those with Munchlax.

The voting period is over and the winner is Onix!

Week 3's threat is Eviolite Snivy:

Snivy @ Eviolite
Level: 5
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 240 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power Ice
- Knock Off
- Synthesis

Post your counters! :]

Ponyta @ Eviolite
Level: 5
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 76 Atk / 156 Def / 76 SpD / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Morning Sun
- Will-O-Wisp
- Wild Charge

If Snivy was running HP Ground or even Glare, this wouldn't work as well, but this particular Snivy can't touch Ponyta. Ponyta can take a +4 Leaf Storm, OHKO with Flare Blitz, and recover back up with Morning Sun (unless Snivy gets a high roll with Leaf Storm, in which you die from recoil). Ponyta also outspeeds Snivy, so it doesn't even have to worry if it gets knocked on the switchin. If the person is smart enough to switch out you can always just click willowisp.

100th post yay :>
