LC Cranidos

[OVERVIEW]

In terms of raw power, Cranidos is in a class of its own. Its incredible base 125 Attack is unmatched in LC, and its two great abilities in Mold Breaker and Sheer Force only increase its offensive presence. The former lets it bypass abilities like Sturdy and Levitate, and the latter effectively gives a Life Orb boost to moves that have secondary effects at the cost of those effects. It has the movepool to use its excellent Attack stat, with its Rock-type STAB attacks backed up with options like Zen Headbutt, Superpower, Crunch, Fire Punch, Thunder Punch, and Earthquake. This means that Cranidos has very few safe switch-ins. Cranidos's Rock typing also lets it check Flying-types like Vullaby.

However, Cranidos's Speed is average at best, and its low bulk makes it a glass cannon, difficult to get in safely. While its Rock typing gives it useful Fire, Normal, and Flying resistances, it also leaves it with common weaknesses in Fighting and Ground. The Fighting weakness makes it less effective as a Flying-type check, as Rufflet and Doduo both have Fighting-type coverage in Superpower and Jump Kick, respectively. A Rock typing also makes it vulnerable to priority moves like Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, and Vacuum Wave.

Moves

Rock Slide gets STAB and is boosted by Sheer Force. If you choose to run Mold Breaker, use the more powerful Stone Edge instead. Zen Headbutt hits the Fighting-types that resist Cranidos's STAB move and is boosted by Sheer Force. It cleanly 2HKOes both Mienfoo and Timburr if running Sheer Force. Superpower hits Steel-, Dark-, and Normal-types super effectively, OHKOing Magnemite, Scraggy, Pawniard, and Munchlax. Earthquake hits the same Rock- and Steel-types that Superpower does without incurring stat penalties and can OHKO Chinchou. If running Mold Breaker, it can also OHKO Magnemite through Sturdy and 2HKO Bronzor through Levitate. Thunder Punch can be used to hit Water-types like Staryu and Slowpoke and is also boosted by Sheer Force. If running Sheer Force, it 2HKOes both of them. Pursuit can be used to catch fleeing Ghost- and Psychic-types like Abra and Gastly while also damaging Flying-types that attempt to switch out. While it still won't KO Doduo and Rufflet, it will significantly weaken them, preventing them from spamming Brave Bird.

Set Details

========

The EVs maximize Speed and Attack. Due to Cranidos's inherent frailty, investing many EVs into bulk is not recommended. A Jolly nature is usually best to outrun +1 15 Speed Pokemon like Timid Magnemite and Jolly Scraggy. Adamant can be used for some extra power, but the extra Speed is more advantageous most of the time. A Choice Scarf lets Cranidos outrun the entire unboosted metagame. Either of Cranidos's abilities can be used on this set. Sheer Force powers up Rock Slide, Zen Headbutt, and Thunder Punch, while Mold Breaker lets it bypass abilities like Tirtouga's Solid Rock and Magnemite's Sturdy.

Usage Tips
========

Don't switch Cranidos into attacks if at all possible. Bring it in via a slow Volt Switch or U-turn or after a teammate has fainted. This set can play multiple roles; it can be a revenge killer, late-game cleaner, or wallbreaker. Be wary of Knock Off, as Cranidos will function significantly worse without its Choice Scarf. Switch out of Pokemon that use priority attacks like Timburr, Croagunk, and Corphish, as they can easily revenge kill Cranidos.

Team Options
========

Since Fighting-types threaten Cranidos, bulky Fighting-resistant Pokémon are a must. Bulky Fairy-types like Snubbull and Spritzee are good teammates, as they can counter Timburr and Mienfoo that lack Poison Jab. They can both also cure Cranidos of status with Heal Bell. Poison-types are also good teammates for the former reason. Croagunk can check opposing Fighting-types and is also immune to Water-type moves thanks to Dry Skin. Wynaut can trap and remove said Fighting-types and give Cranidos free switches with Encore. As this set is walled by Mudbray and Hippopotas, Grass- and Water-types to check them make for good teammates. Staryu can hit them both with its Water-type STAB moves and remove entry hazards; Foongus can put something out of commission with Spore as well as wall most Fighting-types; Pumpkaboo-XL is immune to Fighting-type moves and resists Ground- and Water-type moves. Pancham can use slow Parting Shots to bring Cranidos in safely. It can also check Steel-types and use Z-Parting Shot to heal Cranidos. Entry hazard setters like Dwebble and Ferroseed can set up Stealth Rock and Spikes to help Cranidos get additional KOs. Ferroseed resists the Water-type moves Cranidos is weak to, while Cranidos resists the Fire-type moves Ferroseed is weak to.

Moves
========

Rock Slide is a reliable STAB attack boosted by Sheer Force. Zen Headbutt hits Fighting-types for super effective damage and is also boosted by Sheer Force. Fire Punch is boosted by Sheer Force and hits the Steel-types that resist Cranidos's STAB move, OHKOing Magnemite and Ferroseed. Superpower has even more power, although the stat penalties often force Cranidos out. It also hits opposing Rock-types hard, OHKOing Onix after Sturdy has been broken. Crunch hits Ghost- and Psychic-types harder than anything else, 2HKOing Slowpoke and Pumpkaboo-XL. If the coverage is not needed, Substitute can be run to give Cranidos a shield from status and to let it dodge Sucker Punch. Cranidos's frailty makes it hard to set up, though.

Set Details
========

The given EVs maximize Cranidos's Speed and Attack while boosting its Defense by one point. A Jolly nature is best, as it lets Cranidos outrun as much as possible. If Sticky Web support can be provided, an Adamant nature can be used for extra power, but 22 Attack with Sheer Force and Life Orb will usually get the job done. A Life Orb lets Cranidos hit incredibly hard. Sheer Force powers up Rock Slide, Zen Headbutt, Fire Punch, and Crunch, and removes Life Orb's recoil when using those moves.

Usage Tips
========
This set should not be switched into attacks if possible. Bring it in via a slow U-turn or Volt Switch or after a KO. On standard teams, this set has the role of a wallbreaker, smashing holes in the opponent's team so that something else can clear up later on. On Sticky Web teams, this set can also be used to clean up late-game. Generally, opening with Cranidos's coverage moves is the best idea. The opponent will often switch in their bulky Fighting-type thinking they can force out Cranidos, and Zen Headbutt will usually KO it. If your opponent has no Pokemon left that resist Rock-type moves, spamming Rock Slide will usually get the job done. If you're running Substitute, use it on forced switches and against predicted Sucker Punches.

Team Options
========

While not vital, Sticky Web support is certainly appreciated to remedy Cranidos's average Speed. Surskit and Sewaddle have the best synergy with Cranidos, as they resist Fighting-, Ground-, and Water-type moves, while Cranidos resists Flying-type moves. As Fighting-types threaten Cranidos, bulky Fighting-resistant Pokemon are a must. Wynaut can trap and remove Fighting-types and grant Cranidos free switches with Encore. As this set is walled by Mudbray and Hippopotas, Grass- and Water-types to check them make good teammates. Staryu can hit them both with its Water-type STAB moves and remove entry hazards; Foongus can put something out of commission with Spore as well as wall most Fighting-types; Pumpkaboo-XL can beat both of them with Giga Drain and spread burns with Will-O-Wisp. If Cranidos is on a Sticky Web team, bulky Ghost-types are recommended to both block Rapid Spin and act as Fighting-type switch-ins. Pumpkaboo-XL resists Water- and Ground-type moves and is immune to Fighting, while Cranidos resists Fire- and Flying-type moves. Entry hazard setters like Dwebble and Ferroseed are also appreciated, as the Stealth Rock and Spikes they can set up help Cranidos get additional KOs. Ferroseed resists the Water-type moves Cranidos is weak to, while Cranidos resists the Fire-type moves Ferroseed is weak to.

Other Options
========

A Rock Polish set using Life Orb or Berry Juice can be a deadly late-game sweeper, but Cranidos's low bulk and susceptibility to priority make it hard to set up and easily revenge killed. Head Smash has incredible power, but its high recoil drastically cuts into Cranidos's already limited durability. Ice Beam lets Cranidos 2HKO Mudray and Hippopotas with Sheer Force and Life Orb, but doesn't accomplish much else that its usual moves don't. A suicide lead set consisting of Stealth Rock, Endeavor, Head Smash, and Superpower can be used, but Onix is usually a superior lead because it has better Speed, better bulk, Taunt, and Explosion. Cranidos does have Mold Breaker, however, so it can OHKO Dwebble and Onix through Sturdy. Cranidos can set up Sunny Day and Rain Dance, and its power lets it force switches to do so. However, Vulpix is a better sun setter, as it doesn't need to run Sunny Day and can take advantage of the sun itself with its STAB Fire Blast, and rain is lackluster in LC due to other weather setters. Lastly, Cranidos can use an Eviolite, but even then it's still not especially bulky and the Speed of a Choice Scarf or the power of a Life Orb is more beneficial.

Checks and Counters
========

**Ground-types** Mudbray and Hippopotas can take anything Cranidos has and OHKO with Earthquake. Onix and Diglett using Focus Sash can avoid an OHKO if they have full health, outrun, and OHKO with Earthquake, although Onix is OHKOed by Superpower if Cranidos is running Mold Breaker. While Drilbur can't switch in, it can still outrun and OHKO Cranidos with Earthquake.

**Fighting-types** Mienfoo outruns Cranidos and OHKOes with High Jump Kick, but a Sheer Force-boosted Zen Headbutt will OHKO if Cranidos is running Life Orb. Timburr can survive the Choice Scarf set's Zen Headbutt and OHKO with Drain Punch, and if Cranidos has taken some prior damage, it can take it down with Mach Punch.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon** Slowpoke can avoid a 2HKO from a Life Orb-boosted Rock Slide if no entry hazards are up and OHKO Cranidos most of the time with Scald. A Sheer Force-boosted Crunch will always 2HKO, however. Bronzor and Pumpkaboo-XL can beat the Choice Scarf set, but the Life Orb set can 2HKO both with Crunch. Mold Breaker Earthquake can also OHKO Bronzor after Stealth Rock.

**Priority** Due to Cranidos's frailty, most priority moves can take it down with some prior damage. Timburr, Croagunk, Corphish, and Carvanha all have STAB priority moves that Cranidos is weak to in Mach Punch, Vacuum Wave, and Aqua Jet, respectively.

**Faster Pokemon** Choice Scarf Mienfoo, Chinchou, and Pawniard outrun Cranidos even in Sticky Web and OHKO with their respective super effective STAB moves, although none of them can switch in. If Cranidos is not running a Choice Scarf, practically any Pokemon with above 16 Speed that can hit Cranidos super effectively can force it out. Mienfoo, Drilbur, Staryu, Chinchou, and Onix are notable examples.

choice scarf
-add pursuit into the last slash imo. EQ or TPunch are probably not used that much anyway, whilst pursuit can trap a fleeing gastly, abra and probably more importantly for cranidos, it can trap birds very effectively - although it can't KO rufflett and doduo, it severely hampers them and means they won't be able to switch in freely and spam brave bird anymore.

set details
- jolly allows cranidos to outspeed +1 scraggy and revenge it, outspeed timid scarf magnemite and bop it with EQ/Superpower
(236 Atk Mold Breaker Cranidos Superpower vs. 36 HP / 36 Def Eviolite Scraggy: 20-24 (90.9 - 109%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO) - this is really good, and a reason to slash jolly behind adamant.

team options
fairy mention is good, but don't bother mentioning wish, cranidos doesn't mind about being at full health that much, and is almost never gonna be able to switch in to heal itself.
gothita>wynaut.

life orb
i'd rather crunch>thunderpunch on the Life Orb set. this is because you can't outspeed staryu so hitting it is mostly irrelevant, whilst being able to hit PumpkabooXL for more damage is preferred, whilst still hitting Slowpoke Super effectively. also hits bronzor the hardest.
i wouldn't even bother mentioning EQ on this set tbh

usage tips
this isn't the place to compare it with cubone

team options
again remove the wish mention

checks and coutners
this needs to be formatted properly
do it like this in my opinion:

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Mudbray and Hippo are perhaps cranidos's best counters, only fearing Ice Beam. Slowpoke avoids a 2hko from rock slide w/o hazards must be weary of Thunderpunch or crunch. Bronzor can usually wall it but must be wary of crunch or Mold Breaker EQ. Pumpkaboo, Timburr and Spritzee can take a hit and KO it back.

**Priority**: Because Cranidos is frail, priority often takes it out. Particularly Timburr, Croagunk, Corphish and Carvanha have SE priority

**Faster Pokemon**: Common Choice Scarf users can outspeed and KO Cranidos, this includes Chinchou, Pawniard and Mienfoo. If cranidos doesn't have a choice scarf any pokemon that is 17 speed and upwards can revenge it easily, such as Drilbur, Onix, Mienfoo, Snivy, Staryu, Abra, Gastly and Diglett who can trap it.

other QC can weigh in on how i separated the checks and counters, but i think that's fine. you could also do **ground-types** or **fighting-types** I guess if you wanna separate out that way

OK, done. Will get it written up ASAP. I was also thinking of mentioning a suicide lead set in OO (Stealth Rock, Endeavor, Head Smash, Superpower), reckon it's worth it?

First off, I want to apoligize for the long wait. A lot of QC members have been very busy with SPL and this made it difficult to check a lot of analyses. But anyway, on to the check:

[OVERVIEW]
  • Mention that its weakness to Fighting makes it much less good as a Flying-type check, as Doduo and Rufflet, two of the most common Flying-types, can OHKO it with Jump Kick and Superpower respectively.
[SET]
name: Choice Scarf

good

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Mention some calcs for coverage moves: Zen Headbutt 2HKOes both Timburr and Mienfoo. Superpower also OHKOes Pawniard, in addition to what you mentioned already (definitely worth mentioning, considering how common it is). Earthquake fails to guarantee an OHKO onto Pawniard, but does have a chance to OHKO Chinchou. Thunder Punch always 2HKOes Staryu, and Slowpoke only if running Sheer Force.
  • Mention examples of the Ghost- and Psychic-types Pursuit can catch (Pumpkaboo-XL, Gastly, Abra)
Set Details
========
  • Mention that the leftover EVs are put into Defense, and add 'a lot' to the statement that investing in bulk is useless.
  • Mention that the Adamant damage doesn't come into play very often, making it usually worse than Jolly.
  • Mention examples of Sturdy and Levitate users (Onix/Tirtouga, Bronzor).
Usage Tips
========
  • Say 'Don't switch Cranidos into attacks at all if possible' as the current version makes it sound like you never want to bring in Cranidos at all.

Team Options
========
  • You say that Croagunk can deal with Fighting-types twice, sort of. Remove the notice that it resists Fighting-type moves and in stead just say it can check Fighting-types.
  • Pumpkaboo-XL doesn't really check Fighting-types as they almost always carry Knock Off. In stead just say it is immune to Fighting-type moves.
[SET]

name: Wrecking Ball (Life Orb)

I'm pretty sure GP is going to change the name to just Life Orb, but the set is good.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Specifically mention that Substitute can be used to avoid Sucker Punch. Also, mention that Cranidos can struggle to set up a Substitute because of its frailty and low Speed.

Set Details
========

good

Usage Tips
========
  • Once again, say switch into attacks in stead of just switch in.

Team Options

========
  • Same comment about your Croagunk line
  • You have Pukaboo in stead of Pumpkaboo in the Ghost-type point.
  • Mention late game cleaners that appreciate Cranidos removing their counters, such as Nasty Plot Vullaby and Corphish.

Other Options
========
  • Mention that Cranidos has access to Rain Dance and Sunny Day, and it can use its incredible power to force switches, which it can then use to set up weather for its allies. However, it is outclassed as a sun setter by Vulpix and the fact that all other weathers have auto inducer makes rain not very good in Little Cup.

Checks and Counters
========
  • Mention that Mold Breaker Earthquake also has a chance to OHKO Bronzor after Stealth Rock.

========

**Ground-types** Mudbray and Hippopotas can take anything Cranidos has and OHKO with their respective Earthquakes. Onix and Diglett using Focus Sash can avoid a OHKO an OHKO if they have full health, outrun and OHKO with Earthquake, although Onix is OHKOed by Superpower if Cranidos is running Mold Breaker. While Drilbur can't switch in, it can still outrun and OHKO Cranidos with Earthquake.

**Fighting-types** Mienfoo outruns Cranidos and OHKOes with High Jump Kick, but a Sheer Force boosted Zen Headbutt will OHKO if Cranidos is running Life Orb. Timburr can survive the Choice Scarf set's Zen Headbutt and OHKO with Drain Punch, and if Cranidos has taken some prior damage it can take it down with Mach Punch.

**Physically bulky Bulky Pokemon** Slowpoke can avoid a 2HKO from a Life Orb boosted Rock Slide if no hazards are up and OHKO Cranidos most of the time with Scald. A Sheer Force boosted Crunch will 2HKO, however. Bronzor and Pumpkaboo-Super Pumpkaboo-XL can beat the Choice Scarf set, but the Life Orb set can 2HKO both with Fire Punch. Mold Breaker Earthquake can also OHKO Bronzor after Stealth Rock.

**Priority** Due to Cranidos's frailty, most priority moves can take it down with some prior damage. Timburr, Croagunk, Corphish, (AC) and Carvanha all have STAB priority moves that Cranidos is weak to in Mach Punch, Vacuum Wave, (AC) and Aqua Jet, respectively.

**Faster Pokemon** Choice Scarf Mienfoo, Chinchou, (AC) and Pawniard outrun Cranidos even in Sticky Web and OHKO with their respective super effective STABs, although none of them can switch in. If Cranidos is not running a Choice Scarf, more or less any Pokemon with above 16 Speed that can hit Cranidos super effectively can force it out. Mienfoo, Drilbur, Staryu, Chinchou, (AC) and Onix are notable examples.

[OVERVIEW]

In terms of raw power, Cranidos is in a class of its own. Its incredible base 125 Attack is unmatched in LC, and its two great abilities in Mold Breaker and Sheer Force only increase its damage output offensive presence. The former lets it bypass abilities like Sturdy and Levitate, and the latter powers up effectively gives a Life Orb boost to moves that have secondary effects at the cost of those effects, (comma) while letting Cranidos use a Life Orb without recoil.

However, Cranidos's Speed is average at best, and its low bulk makes Cranidos something of it a glass cannon, (comma) which in turn makes it somewhat and difficult to get in safely. While its Rock typing gives it useful Fire, Normal, and Flying resistances, it also leaves it with common weaknesses in Fighting and Ground weaknesses. The Fighting weakness makes it less effective as a Flying-type check, as Rufflet and Doduo both have Fighting-type coverage in Superpower and Jump Kick, respectively. It A Rock typing also makes it vulnerable to priority moves like Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, and Vacuum Wave.

Moves

Rock Slide gets STAB and is boosted by Sheer Force. If you choose to run Mold Breaker, use the more powerful Stone Edge instead as it will be more powerful. Zen Headbutt hits the Fighting-types that resist Cranidos's STAB, (comma) move and is also boosted by Sheer Force. It cleanly 2HKOes both Mienfoo and Timburr if running Sheer Force. Superpower hits Steel-, Dark-, and Normal-types super effectively, OHKOing Magnemite, Scraggy, Pawniard, and Munchlax. Earthquake hits the same Rock- and Steel-types that Superpower does without incurring stat penalties, (comma) and can OHKO Chinchou. If running Mold Breaker, it can also OHKO Magnemite through Sturdy and 2HKO Bronzor through Levitate. Thunder Punch can be used to hit Water-types like Staryu and Slowpoke, (comma) and is also boosted by Sheer Force. If running Sheer Force, it 2HKOes both of them. Pursuit can be used to catch fleeing Ghost- and Psychic-types like Abra and Gastly, (comma) while also damaging Flying-types which that attempt to switch out. While it still won't KO Doduo and Rufflet, it will significantly weaken them, preventing them from spamming Brave Bird.

The EVs maximize Speed and Attack. Due to Cranidos's inherent frailty, investing many EVs into bulk is not recommended. A Jolly nature is usually best to outrun +1 15 Speed Pokemon like Timid Magnemite and Jolly Scraggy. Adamant can be used for some extra power, but most of the time the extra Speed is more advantageous most of the time.

Usage Tips
========

Don't switch Cranidos into attacks if at all possible. Bring it in via a slow Volt Switch or U-turn, (comma) or after a teammate has fainted. This set can play multiple roles; it can be a revenge killer, late-game cleaner, (comma) or wallbreaker. Be wary of Knock Off, as Cranidos will function significantly worse without its Choice Scarf. Switch out of Pokemon that use priority attacks like Timburr, Croagunk, and Corphish, (comma) as they can easily revenge kill Cranidos.

Team Options
========
As Since Fighting-types threaten Cranidos, bulky Fighting-resistant Pokemon resists are a must. Bulky Fairy-types like Snubbull and Spritzee are good teammates, as they can counter Timburr and Mienfoo that lack Poison Jab. They can both also cure Cranidos of status with Heal Bell. Poison-types are also good teammates for that the former reason. Croagunk can check opposing Fighting-types, (comma) and is also immune to Water-type moves thanks to Dry Skin. Wynaut can trap and remove said Fighting-types, (comma) and give it switch in opportunities Cranidos free switches with Encore. As this set is walled by Mudbray and Hippopotas, Grass- and Water-types to check them make for good teammates as they can check them. Staryu can hit them both with its Water-type STAB moves and remove entry hazards; Foongus can put something out of commission with Spore as well as wall most Fighting-types; Pumpkaboo-XLSuper is immune to Fighting-type moves and resists Ground- and Water-type moves. Pancham can use slow Parting Shots to bring Cranidos in safely. It can also check Steel-types, (comma) and use a Z-Parting Shot to heal Cranidos.

Moves

Rock Slide is a reliable STAB attack boosted by Sheer Force. Zen Headbutt hits Fighting-types for super effective damage, (comma) and is also boosted by Sheer Force. Fire Punch is boosted by Sheer Force, (comma) and hits the Steel-types that resist Cranidos's STAB move, OHKOing Magnemite and Ferroseed. Cranidos's frailty makes it hard to set up, (comma) though.

Set Details
========
The given EVs maximize Cranidos's Speed and Attack, (comma) while boosting its Defense by one point. A Jolly nature is best, as that it lets Cranidos outrun as much as possible. If Sticky Web support can be provided, an Adamant nature can be used for extra power, although but 22 Attack with Sheer Force and Life Orb will usually get the job done. A Life Orb lets Cranidos hit incredibly hard. Sheer Force powers up Rock Slide, Zen Headbutt, Fire Punch, and Crunch, and removes Life Orb's recoil when using those moves.

Usage Tips
========
This set should not be switched into attacks if possible. Bring it in via a slow U-turn or Volt Switch, (comma) or after a revenge kill KO. On standard teams, this set has the role of a wallbreaker, smashing holes in the opponent's team so that something else can clear up later on. On Sticky Web teams, this set can also be used to clean up late-game. Generally, (comma) opening with Cranidos's coverage moves is the best idea. The opponent will often switch in their bulky Fighting-type thinking they can force out Cranidos, and Zen Headbutt will usually KO them it. If your opponent has no Pokemon left that resist Rock-type moves, spamming Rock Slide will usually get the job done. If you're running Substitute, use it on forced switches and against predicted Sucker Punches.

Team Options
========
While not vital, Sticky Web support is certainly appreciated to remedy Cranidos's average Speed. Surskit and Sewaddle have the best synergy with Cranidos, as they resist Fighting-, Ground-, and Water-type moves, while Cranidos resists Flying-type moves. As Fighting-types threaten Cranidos, bulky Fighting-resistant Pokemon resists are a must. Wynaut can trap and remove Fighting-types, (comma) and grant Cranidos switch in opportunities free switches with Encore. As this set is walled by Mudbray and Hippopotas, Grass- and Water-types to check them make good teammates as they can check them. Staryu can hit them both with its Water-type STAB moves and remove entry hazards; Foongus can put something out of commission with Spore as well as wall most Fighting-types; Pumpkaboo-XL can beat both of them with Giga Drain and spread burns with Will-O-Wisp. If run Cranidos is on a Sticky Web team, bulky Ghost-types are recommended as they can to both block Rapid Spin and act as Fighting-type switch-ins.

========
A Rock Polish set using Life Orb or Berry Juice can be a deadly late-game sweeper, however but Cranidos's low bulk and susceptibility to priority make it hard to set up and easily revenge killed. Head Smash has incredible power, but its high recoil drastically cuts into Cranidos's already limited durability. Ice Beam lets Cranidos 2HKO Mudray and Hippopotas with Sheer Force and Life Orb, (comma) but doesn't accomplish much else that its usual moves don't. A suicide lead set consisting of Stealth Rock, Endeavor, Head Smash, and Superpower can be used, but Onix is usually a superior lead as because it has better Speed, better bulk, Taunt, and Explosion. Cranidos does have Mold Breaker, however, so it can OHKO Dwebble and Onix through Sturdy. Cranidos can set up Sunny Day and Rain Dance, and its power lets it force switches to do so. However, Vulpix is a better sun setter, as it doesn't need to run Sunny Day and can abuse take advantage of the sun itself with its STAB Fire Blast, and rain is lackluster in LC due to other weather setters. Lastly, Cranidos can use an Eviolite, but even then it's still not especially bulky and the Speed of a Choice Scarf or the power of a Life Orb are is more beneficial.

Checks and Counters
========

**Ground-types** Mudbray and Hippopotas can take anything Cranidos has and OHKO with their respective Earthquakes. Onix and Diglett using Focus Sash can avoid an OHKO if they have full health, outrun, (comma) and OHKO with Earthquake, although Onix is OHKOed by Superpower if Cranidos is running Mold Breaker. While Drilbur can't switch in, it can still outrun and OHKO Cranidos with Earthquake.

**Fighting-types** Mienfoo outruns Cranidos and OHKOes with High Jump Kick, but a Sheer Force-(hyphen)boosted Zen Headbutt will OHKO if Cranidos is running Life Orb. Timburr can survive the Choice Scarf set's Zen Headbutt and OHKO with Drain Punch, and if Cranidos has taken some prior damage, (comma) it can take it down with Mach Punch.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon** Slowpoke can avoid a 2HKO from a Life Orb-(hyphen)boosted Rock Slide if no entry hazards are up and OHKO Cranidos most of the time with Scald. A Sheer Force-(hyphen)boosted Crunch will always 2HKO, however. Bronzor and Pumpkaboo-XL can beat the Choice Scarf set, but the Life Orb set can 2HKO both with Fire Punch.

**Faster Pokemon** Choice Scarf Mienfoo, Chinchou, and Pawniard outrun Cranidos even in Sticky Web and OHKO with their respective super effective STABs moves, although none of them can switch in. If Cranidos is not running a Choice Scarf, more or less practically any Pokemon with above 16 Speed that can hit Cranidos super effectively can force it out. Mienfoo, Drilbur, Staryu, Chinchou, and Onix are notable examples.
