D/P Battle Tower Team

I've had no trouble getting near 100 with a simple Starmie, Tyranitar, Garchomp team. I believe I could get to around 103 - 115 with such a team. However, it is a little bland and overused so I decided to create a new team.

Please help rate my new Diamond/Pearl Battle Tower team.

Bold means I need help/subject to change.

@ Choice Band

Adamant
--------
Close Combat
Brave Bird
Return
Aerial Ace

My speedy starter, not sure about Choice Band vs Choice Scarf. Covers a lot of ground with this moveset. Aerial Ace is there for the double teamers.

@ Leftovers

Bold
--------
Pain Split / Shadow Ball / Dark Pulse
Sludge Bomb
Explosion
Flamethrower

Comes in nicely when Staraptor falls. I'm not sure about the EV Spread right now but I'll work on it. Explosion is for the high special defense/resistant pokemon and to finish off their third pokemon.

@ Yache Berry

Adamant
--------
Swords Dance
Outrage
Fire Fang
Earthquake

He's very standard but very good in a finishing role. Yache Berry makes him tough to take down and adds some reliability as my last pokemon.

I'm thinking about substituting Tyranitar,Starmie, Metagross or Bronzong for one of my starters. What do you all think would be the best choice, and how would he work the best?

If there are any weaknesses or glaring problems please point them out. Please respond to the bold questions.

May want to put some EV's down. Its ok if you dont know

For Staraptor, no need for BOTH Aerial Ace and Brave Bird.
If you want to make sure you hit, then use Aerial Ace. Use Choice Band with this for extra power. Staraptor is fast enough to outspeed most (if not all) pokemon in the Battle Tower.

I like the Garchomp, pretty solid, something I would use in the battle tower as well.

I'd substitute Weezing for Starmie with:
Choice specs.

Surf
Psychic
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt

This set will basically take out anyone you face in the battle tower, and OHKO them at the lower tiers.

Thanks for the reply. I think if I took out Brave Bird or Aerial Ace I'd replace it with U-Turn on Staraptor.

I'm still not sure about moving Starmie in for Weezing. I know that Starmie rocks the house for Battle Tower, but so does Explozing. I'm worried that if I came across a Weavile later I'd still lose.

I'd substitute Weezing for Starmie

Just saying that if you were to do this, you're gonna have a lot of troubles with Weavile:

Weavile: Jolly/ Focus Sash: Night Slash/Ice Punch/Aerial Ace/Brick Break Atk/Speed

By "trouble," I mean "outspeeds and OHKO's your whole team and if that goes wrong for any reason, I can just use Focus Sash."

As it stands at the moment (Staraptor/Weezing/Garchomp) you can apply a similar principle of trouble to:

Latios: Timid/ Expert Belt: Psychic/Dragon Pulse/Ice Beam/Shadow Ball Sp. Atk/Speed

Latias:Timid/ Brightpowder: Psychic/Dragon Pulse/Thunderbolt/Surf Sp. Atk/Speed

Starmie: Timid/ Expert Belt: Psychic/Thunderbolt/Ice Beam/Surf Sp. Atk/Speed

So based on that (and your like for explosions), I'm thinking Metagross looks like a good switch in for Weezing. Agility/MeteorMash/Earthquake/Explosion or Thunderpunch can handle all of the aforementioned Pokemon and blow himself up with a lot more power when the time comes. Bronzong could do a decent job too.

Yea I saw the problem with Weavile glaring at me. Metagross would be a good choice, same with Bronzong. I still don't know how to get the TM Explosion though. If anyone could explain it or is willing to trade it I'd be very grateful.

Thanks for the replies.

I;ve done the battle tower for a long time.
Weavile Wont give you any problems till the late 70's of wins.

A Poison type like Tentacruel will fix that.

ok, choice between metagross and bronzong...

Metagross @ Leftovers (Adamant)
Bullet Punch
Meteor Mash
Earthquake
Explosion

vs

Bronzong @ Leftovers (Sassy)
Gyro Ball
Light Screen
Protect
Explosion

Each one would complement the Staraptor and Garchomp well, but which would do it best in the Battle Tower?

new D/P Battle Tower team, thoughts?

Strategy: Choice Band STABed Brave Bird hits most pokes pretty hard. U-Turn or Close Combat on weaknesses, Return is rarely used. Metagross comes in on many things easily with Bullet Punch as a revenge killer. Explode if they don't have Substitute or if it's the last poke. Starmie with Choice Specs as a finisher works better than as a starter in my opinion. I need some thoughts or critiques, thanks.

This is what I've revised it too. I was having too much trouble with bulky water pokes that killed metagross.
