ORAS UU Dancing in the mirror? A balance team

Hello RMT community, I have a decent team to share with my fellow battlers. I wanted to make a balance team cause I am usually all about that hyper offence. So here is my attemp at balance.

mamoswine.gif

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Icicle Crash
- Knock Off

One of the most important parts of balance is a good wall breaker and I think Mamo is the best in the tier. The set is very standard. I run Adamant for maximum power. Mamo's Earthquake is the strongest in the tier so thats really cool. Ice Shard to pick off weakened mons and reck dragons. Icicle Crash is a nice 85 bp stab move with a flinch chance which might win a game sometime. And knock off for it's utility.

suicune.gif

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Tailwind Ice Beam
- Mirror Coat
- Calm Mind

Suicune is pretty much the premier wall in the tier. Very hard to break unless you hit it for SE damage. This was originally the sleep talk set. But I would auto lose vs Heliolisk. So I decided to go a bit cheecky and run Mirror coat. For the rest of the set there is scald what is your primary damage dealer. Calm mind to take those special attacks better before I mirror coat. And the final slot I decided to give some team support with tailwind. Cause my team is relatively slow. After A suggestion from Arifeen I decided to change to Ice Beam cune. It helps with my major Hydreigon weakness and also stops Salamance.

forretress.gif

Forretress @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic
- Volt Switch

I wanted A spinner and rocks. And forretress does both so I added it to the team. I run the max hp max defence set. To be able to take some hits. I originally had Gyro ball but my team has hell breaking bulky ground/water types especially the water absorb ones like Seismitoad, Swampert, donphan krookodile etc. So I decided to run toxic. This effectively puts a timer on them. Lastly Volt switch is there to retain momentum.

toxicroak.gif

Toxicroak @ Black Sludge
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 232 HP / 252 Atk / 24 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch
- Gunk Shot
- Drain Punch

None of the pokes above can beat the most common water types in the meta like Suicune and vaporeon and mega blastoise. Toxicroak hard walls all 3 of them. I first had the common Life orb set. But Toxicroak would get worn down way too easily. So i Decided to run a bulkier version. I have just enough speed to creep mega blastoise. And the rest goes into hp. Because the extra speed doesn't make me outpace anything relevant. Except Adamant Mamo and Feraligatr. But those are checked by the rest of the team. The moveset is the standard one. Swords Dance to wall break. Sucker Punch for some priority because Croak is slow. Gunk Shot does good damage if it isn't resisted and it also has a 30% poison chance which is great. Lastly drain punch to keep it as healthy as possible.
houndoom-mega.gif

Houndoom @ Houndoominite
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Protect
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Nasty Plot

My third Wall breaker. Flash fire puts some pressure on the opponent to not lock himself into a fire type move. Houndoom get outpaced by a bunch of relevant stuff before it mega evolves. Like LO shaymin, Cobalion. So I decided to run protect Houndoom to get that speed boost. Fire blast is nice and powerfull. The miss chance is annoying though. Dark pulse is the strongest dark stab houndoom gets. And finally Nasty plot this sets me up to break those special walls.

cresselia.gif

Cresselia @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunder Wave
- Lunar Dance
- Psychic
- Moonlight

And Finally the last mon to complete a Fighting Dark Psychic core. My 2nd wall. Thunderwave is to cripple opposing sweepers. Lunar Dance is To give a crippled mon a 2nd chance. For example if Suicune fired off a mirror coat and is super low or if Houndoom got paralyzed. Psychic is run so I am not walled by those poison types like crobat, nidoqueen, roserade. And Finally Moonlight to keep it healthy.

Thanks for reading any feedback is appreciated.

Threatlist:
This team is weak vs LO taunt Hydreigon. So if you see the behemoth in team preview you should play mamo carefully cause it is the only check.

Hey man. Nice team. I'd suggest the following changes:

Run Jolly on Mamoswine, since you need to outspeed Jolly Feraligatr, Hoopa, and Adamant Heracross, and hit them hard, making you win games if you're in a pinch. Toxicroak is frail anyways and so you should invest Max Speed Max Attack Jolly Nature on Toxicroak. I appreciate Tailwind on Suicune, but in reality your team is not slow at all now, and so, you can run Ice Beam over Tailwind to lure Grass-type Pokemon and hitting them hard. Protect on Houndoom is okay, but running Destiny Bond/Sucker Punch/Taunt/Hidden Power Grass is also an option. I'd also run Gyro Ball on Forretress because that's your Aerodactyl and Beedrill check and you'd want a move that actually hits them.

Other than that, a solid team. Good luck in ladder!

I will try jolly Mamo but am sceptiticle about thé change causé mamo needs that power. I used to have gyro on forretress but it makes me get walled by water ground. The houndoom suggestions are also worth a try. And icebeam on Cune pretty much makes running mirror coat pointless but worth a shot I guess. Appreciate your feedback

hey Tyty307, cool looking team. It's always cool to see Tailwind Cune around, but I feel it's weird on this team especially cause you're defensive cune. But anyways, I'd like to recommend a couple of things to help out.
  • So first off, I'd like to try to fix the glaring Hydreigon weakness. What I saw first on this team was that it had 3 Physical Walls and no Special Walls at all. So that's why I'd like to recommend Florges over Cresselia. Florges gives you that much needed Dragon or Special Attack switch-in that you didn't have before. It can also provide Wish support as well as healing status'd Pokemon, so I feel that it could fit very well on a team with 3 set-up sweepers in Houndoom, Croak, and Cune. But anyway here's the Florges set.
    florges.gif

    Florges @ Leftovers
    Ability: Flower Veil
    EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 SpD
    Calm/Bold Nature
    IVs: 0 Atk
    - Wish
    - Protect
    - Aromatherapy
    - Moonblast

  • Next, I'd like to second the recommendations Arifeen made with the nature and EV changes (Mamoswine and Croak), I feel that it will further increase their effectiveness, especially with Croak, being a set-up sweeper and all, it really needs that Speed investment. I would also like to say Protect is a nice option to counter any Choice Scarf Mienshao's looking to HJK Mega Doom, but if you choose to go with something over protect, I'd run Destiny Bond over it. Lastly Arifeen already suggested it but definitely run Gyro Ball over Toxic on Forretress, as it hits all the threats he mentioned.
  • And lastly, I would change the Suicune set to a CM Roar set. Roar is essential for phazing out any set-up sweepers, like another cune, Gatr, etc from setting up on the relatively passive Pokemon and also shuffling into your Stealth Rocks, further weakening the walls for your sweepers. It's become a really popular set due to its effectiveness. But anyway, here's the set.

    EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spe

    - Calm Mind
But anyway, that's all my recommendations I have for this team. Good luck! :]

Thanks for suggestions man. I tried Florges but That makes me super weak vs EQ spam. While florges does give my team support the loss of T-wave and the weakness to poison created a huge weakness to poison spam. And while Gyro does help Forretress clean up Aero and Beedril. The threat that bulky mons create is greater than the speed demons. Because Suicune can beat both speed demons 1v1. And also Mamo/ Croak can revenge kill them. On the contrary Mamo and Croak Can't break the bulky mons. Here is the perfect example of how Forry wins the game turn 1 http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/uu-282974261. On suicune the reason I run Mirror coat is to not auto lose vs Heliolisk and Shaymin. If I remove mirror coat This team gets destroyed bij LO shaymin/ Heliolisk. Suicune gives a check to kinda deal with them. The common roar set Doesn't help against those threats.

Ok so I like the idea behind the team, but I feel there are some glaring weaknesses already touched upon by my fellow rates, Arifeen and Shiba. Anyways, onto the rate!
  • While I do understand you feel like you would be weak to EQ spam with Florges, I second Shiba's change. However, I would rather run Calm Mind Florges > WishTect Florges as your team doesn't really need recovery, but still appreciates the clerical support.
Florges @ Leftovers
Ability: Symbiosis
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Synthesis
- Aromatherapy
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
  • Second, I agree with all of Arifeen's EV changes (Jolly on Mamo and Jolly w/ Max Atk / Max Spe Toxicroak) as well as Gyro Ball on Forretress.
  • Since you are now running Ice Beam on Suicune, may I suggest an Offensive Tailwind Suicune > Current Cune? This gives you back Tailwind while also hitting a ton of mons harder than you are and rn you have enough physical walling presence to not be in need of it being "bulky".
Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid / Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Electric] / Hidden Power [Grass]
- Tailwind

Other than that, I am pretty much on par with the other raters for changes, and I hope you like mine as well! Good luck with the team :)

OK so my changes aren't going to be deviating much from that of those before me, but be sure to not run my changes + other people's changes (it messes things up). Anyhow, the team looks OK but could be more optimized.
  • First off, agreeing with Arifeen on his EV changes of Toxicroak and Mamoswine, this optimizes them. Also be sure to have Life Orb > Black Sludge on Toxicroak. This gives Toxicroak that extra power and by foregoing a bulkier variant I believe power > recovery in this scenario.
  • Gyro Ball > Toxic on Forretress. Having a Forretress that has literally no offensive presence whatsoever is quite bad imo. The lack of Gyro Ball means that Pokemon like Crobat and Nidoking don't even need to be scared of potential damage as they laugh at Forretress. Being walled by Water / Ground (or anything, for that matter) as a Forretress is no issue whatsoever considering the only common one atm is Swampert and you have Suicune for all variants of that thing anyways.
  • Now, I suggest having Specially Defensive Forretress over current EV spread, as this allows you to take on the likes of Shaymin better, which can be quite threatening to the team as it is, and you already have a good physically defensive wall in Suicune.
  • Anyways I agree with the others above me in having Florges > Cresselia as the team currently lacks any solid switch in for specially offensive Dragon-types, and especially Hydreigon, and having Florges retains your secondary Fighting resist. I chose to have a Wish variant Florges over a Calm Mind variant as I felt the team could always use the Wish passing, especially Houndoom and Forretress, which rely on it to have more longevity.
  • Now, I feel like your current Suicune set is suboptimal and should definitely be changed since a) it lacks Rest, and for a defensive variant, that really diminishes its normal longevity, b) defensive Tailwind is pretty meh and considering the team's main sweepers are either fast or have priority, it's unecessary, and lastly, c) Mirror Coat is pretty niche and honestly speaking it's not worth the slot. Therefore, I suggest having RestTalk Roar Suicune over current set, as it allows you to continuously check a lot of threatening setup sweepers and I don't feel Calm Mind Suicune is as necessary on this team.
Forretress @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Gyro Ball
- Volt Switch
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin

Florges (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flower Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 104 Def / 152 SpD
Bold Nature
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Protect / Synthesis
- Heal Bell

Standard Wish passing Florges, Protect can be used for scouting and guaranteed Wishes, although Synthesis allows for immediate recovery so your choice here. EVs allow you to take on physical threats such as Choice Band Heracross, while walling all variants of Hydreigon (disregarding the completely rare Iron Tail).

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 196 HP / 252 Def / 60 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Roar
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

I chose this set for consistency, since the set that has Calm Mind over Sleep Talk tends to be way too much of a liability during Sleep turns, especially considering it's going to be depending on Florges to remove that Sleep status. EVs are for creeping other Cune.

I feel like flame change > protect on MDoom + Memento Wimsicott over cress would help the team more than lunar dance + twave cress (Which weird because I really like reload moves).

Freeze dry mamoswine over full physical also seems like a pretty decent choice to remove a lot of common toxifrog switchins.

Thanks for thé feedback man. Freeze dry mamo actually sound really good. Not sure about Whimiscott but worth a shot.
