Introduction:
Hey guys, my names Dawson and this is a team I made based around Dragon Dance Tyranitar. I chose Tyranitar as my sweper for three reasons. One is because he is my favorite Pokemon. The second one is because with all these Drought and Drizzle teams around, Sand can be helpful and is my weather of choice. The third is because of his awesome bulk, especially in sand. The team does alright, I usually hang around with a ranking about 1,000-1,500. I have never been in top 1,000 on the Smogon server, but I would absolutely love to. I am willing to make any changes, but if possible i would like to keep my Dragon Dance Tyranitar. Now please enjoy my presentation.

Closer Look:

Salamence @ Life orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 116 Atk/ 216 SpA/ 176 Spe
Naive Nature (+Spe, -SpD)
-Draco Meteor
-Outrage
-Earthquake
-Fire Blast

Salamence is what I usually lead with. Salamence's role on the team is to soften up the oppenents team, and poke holes in it for a sweep by Tyranitar later in the game. I didn't want a Dragon Dance Salamence because I wanted something that could immediately take out and weaken the opponents Pokemon without need of set-up. Being mixed also helps it get some surprise kills, and allows it to sweep a little easier and take down a wider variety of Pokemon. I didn't feel Roost was necessary because I have Vaporeon to Wish pass to Salamence, which also lets Salamence become a late game threat and with Outrage over Roost I have much more offensive power. Salamence functions excellently early mid or late game. The EV spread allows me to outspeed base 90's and the Naive nature combined with Intimidate allows Salamence to take physical hits easier. Overall this guy does great, and is a severally underestimated Pokemon in todays metagame.

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 Hp/ 252 Def/ 4 SpD
Bold Nature (+Def, -SpD)
-Wish
-Protect
-Scald
-Ice Beam

"The best offense is a good defense". This holds true in Pokemon, and Vaporeon easily demonstrates that. Vaporeon is my teams defensive backbone. He keeps everyone healthy with Wish, and can cripple pokes with Scald. Ice Beam is great for taking down Outraging Dragons. 252 Hp EVs allow Vaporeon to pass a huge Wish, and always gives my Pokemon over 50% health back. Vaporeon is prone to Toxic, and thats where Magnezone and Scizor come in and help. In return, Vaporeon takes Fire hits like its nothing. Vaporeon also can come in on an Ice move aimed at Salamence. Vaporeon was selected over other bulky Waters due to its ability to Wish, and Water absorb, which is good for this team as Tyranitar has trouble with Water type moves.

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 Hp/ 252 Atk/ 8 Spe
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
-U-Turn
-Bullet Punch
-Superpower
-Pursuit

This set is what got Scizor to be the most used Pokemon last Gen, and theres a very good reason for it. Everyone knows the Choice Band + Technician + STAB combo that Scizor is famous for. Scizor serves a revenge killer on this team, and stops set-up Pokemon with Bullet Punch. It removes Ghost with Pursuit that otherwise could threaten my team. U-Turn is great for scouting. Scizor's Steel typing is a big part of the reason he is on this team. With only one Steel, my team would be decimated by Dragons. Any other Steel either had no offensive power (brongzong/ Skarmory) or was weak to ground or fighting, and I'm already a little weak to those. Scizor stops just about any Dragon from destroying my team. Scizor functions excellently on this team.

Gengar @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Evs: 4 Hp/ 252 SpA/ 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -SpA)
-Substitute
-Pain Split
-Shadow Ball
-Focus Blast

Something that commonly limits Gengar is it lack of bulk, and the fact that with Life Orb, it can often die way too fast. Well that's where Pain Split comes in. With Pain Split, Gengar can stay out longer and continue to tear apart the opponents team. With Sand up, I needed Gengar to be able to recover or it'd would be dead so fast it wouldn't even be useful. Another thing I like about Subsplit Gengar is the fact that it can beat Blissey. Gengar was put on the team because I needed something immune or resistant to fighting type moves if Tyranitar was on the team. Gengar is immune to Fighting and Ground, which is great for Tyranitar. Gengar can remove physically bulky Pokemon, and Tyranitar can remove specially bulky Pokemon. The two work well toghether.

Tyranitar @ Lum Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
Evs: 4 Hp/ 252 Atk/ 252 Spe
Jolly Nature (+Spe, -SpA)
-Dragon Dance
-Stone Edge
-Crunch
-Aqua Tail

Tyranitar is the heart of this team. He is my favorite Pokemon and thats what earned him a spot on this team. I wanted Tyranitar to be the one that finished off the oppenent, and the Pokemon that would be doing the sweeping. Thats why he's a Dragon Dancer. The EVs should be pretty obvious, max Attack and Speed for maximum offensive power. Jolly nature allows me to outspeed Starmie. Aqua Tail lets me hit Heatran and Gliscor harder. Not much to say for why its on the team, as the only reason is because its my favorite. I believe most of his weaknesses are covered throughout the team. Magnezone takes out Scizor, Skarmory, Ferrothorn, Jirachi and Metagross, all of which he has trouble against. Gengar takes out fighters, and can come in on an Earthquake. Salamence resist Water, Fighting, Grass, Ground and Bug. And he can almost always KO the Pokemon dishing out the attacks. I'm considering an expert belt to bluff a choice band set.

Magnezone @ Leftovers
Evs: 172 Hp/ 252 SpA/ 84 Spe
Ability: Magnet Pull
Modest Nature (+SpA, -Atk)
-Substitute
-Thunder Wave
-Thunderbolt
-Hidden Power Fire

Most of Tyranitars counters are KO'd by this guy. Skarmory, Ferrothern and Scizor just to name a few. They are all trapped and killed by this guy. With Scizor and other Steels gone Tyranitar can sweep all it wants. Magnezone has Thunder Wave to help out the team. Leftovers was selected over Air Balloon because usually Magnezone switches in on a resisted hit, and its Balloon is wasted on the switch in. Magnezone works well with the team because it can serve as an Outrage blocker, and helps out Salamence because it can KO bulky waters that threaten Mence with Ice Beam.

Notes:
Garchomp/ Excadrill are hard to take down
Once Vappy is gone, the team can start to crumble
No entry hazards

A fellow Salamence user! Huzzah!

This team seems fairly solid, but there is one burning question that most Gen V teams have a good answer to: what stops Excadrill? Everythign outside of Vaporeon and Scizor are murdered by it. If Vappy is low on health, Earthquake will take it out. Scizor can't really do much back, especially if Excadrill came in on a resisted move, and Scizor is also more of a pivot than something you protect with your life. Another thought is to take advantage of sand more with an Excadrill of your own somewhere, or perhaps a Landorus or Gliscor, both of whom keep Excadrill from running completely through you.

Hey thanks for pointing out the type JohnWesley, thanks for the compliment.

Thanks you Seth, I will try and think of a Excadrill counter and fit it on here.
Excadrill and Chomp can both be annoying and VERY hard to work around.
Thanks for bringing that up.
Perhaps Conkeldurr with Mach Punch? It has priority, so it can still revenge kill, and it can take out Excadrills. But that could open me up to Dragons..

Thing with Conkelderp is that a +0 non Guts-boosted Mach Punch won't KO Excadrill, even after Stealth Rock. If it comes in on a Balloon with no prior damage, that clown isn't stopping it. The clown and Scizor together might, but that's pushing it. What I would do is replace Gengar, who to me seems out of place, with some variant of Poison Heal Gliscor, who is about as near a 100% counter as you can get for Excadrill. He also puts the hurt on other physical threats that would gladly come in on Tyranitar, like some physical Dragons, opposing Conkeldurr and other Fighters not named Virizion and Mienshao, who carry HP Ice all the time. Keep Magnezone if not solely for dispatching Scizor and Ferrothron. That's my diagnosis; do with it as you will.

I agree with the above poster, Gengar seems really random on your team. I think Poison Heal Gliscor fits much better. It keeps the Ground immunity, and although not immune, it still resists Fighting at least.
I've had a lot of success with a set consisting of Earthquake/Acrobatics/Fling/Protect. Obviously Toxic Orb is the item. Protect guarentees that your orb activates, and gives you a free turn of healing, which is great because Gliscor can switch into a lot of attacks with its bulk. Fling is a one-shot Toxic, so you'll have to predict well with it, but it can totally cripple something like Garchomp that could otherwise annoy you. Once you're item-less, Acrobatics actually becomes stronger than Earthquake (assuming both are neutral against the target) and it will make quick work of those pesky Fighting types that threaten your Tyranitar sweep. And Earthqauke is Earthquake, I shouldn't have to explain that one. =P
Cool team though dude, best of luck with it! =)

..maybe check mine out? ;D

thank you the response

Gengar appreciates the absence of Blissey (which ttar does) and hates Scizor (which magnezone gets rid of) and it is immune to fighting and ground moves. That was my original logic for why he is on the team.
Gliscor sounds nice, but that would give me two x4 ice weaknesses, so idk

I have to agree with the Gliscor mention. I'm pretty sure that if you make a mistake while conkeldur is setting up he can straight 6-0 you if he carries Stone Edge. Your team needs Gliscor. I'll suggest a set even though you seem relatively hostile towards the idea.

Gliscor (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 224 Def / 32 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Ice Fang/Facade
- Earthquake
- Protect/Taunt
- Swords Dance

With this set you gain a relatively good check to Garchomp, a hard counter for Excadrill and give Conkeldur something serious to think about at the moment.

To be honest, this team seems like a copy/paste from mid Gen iv, the movesets are sound but most of the biggest Gen v threats give you a problem. Here's a short list I feel you don't have a contingency for:

Thunderus - Outspeeds and fucks with your whole team. The only thing you could do at the moment is bring in Magnezone, survive the no investment Hammer Arm, sub and let it Hammer Arm again. Then you should outspeed and be able to fight back.

Rain - Tyranitar can change the weather for you - but how many times? You will not be winning a weather with that build yet Iconics standard build would be virtually useless here.

Reuniclus - You don't have a good answer to the little Plasmafag. To be honest you can U-Turn from Scizor into something growly but if it Recovers you're still in trouble.

There are more but I think you know where I'm coming from. I'm going to suggest one more set to be used but I can't suggest what over.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
Nature: Careful
EV's: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Spe
-Iron Head
-Body Slam
-Wish
-Protect

Feel free to run up to 40 Spe Ev's which can help when trying to rush off a Wish against bulkier 'mons. This should also help you cover the above 3 threats and Latias.

Good luck.

Sorry if I seemed hostile, I did intend to at all. It actually does fit well. Your completely right about what you said, gen V threats destroy me. Thanks for pointing that out. Who should Jirachi replace?
