  • For last, Superpower lets you hit Chansey and Porygon2 very hard, while Fire Punch is a more reliable STAB move and it's normally used to clean up late game.

  • Rapid Spin support. Donphan and Hitmontop are good partners
  • Hazards support. Roserade and Donphan are good partners
  • When using Darmanitan early game, try to avoid using Superpower / Earthquake due to being easily stopped by common immunities
  • Rock Slide is also a viable option for the likes of Moltres, Zapdos and Honchkrow.
  • Bulky Waters are good checks to Darmanitan, mainly Milotic, Slowbro, Suicune and Alomomola. For that reason, using a Grass-type on your team like Shaymin or Roserade is very helpful
  • Sunny Day is very helpful. Sun Boosted Flare Blitz 2HKOs the entire tier with exception for Flash Fire users, all of them get taken out by super effective Rock Slide

  • EV spread lets Darmanitan outspeed Jolly Heracross and Timid Nidoking while letting you set up 101 HP Substitutes
  • Leftovers to let Darmanitan set up as more Substitutes as possible
  • Hazards and Rapid Spin, look above
  • Toxic Spikes are a big help to take out Chandelure and Slowbro
  • Darmanitan still needs to be wary of those Water types, even though it can hit them harder with Focus Punch. Grass-types like Roserade and Shaymin are helpful
  • Rock Slide hits Chandelure, Moltres, Honchkrow and Zapdos for super effective damage whereas Earthquake hits Chandelure as well, Nidoking and Rhyperior without having to rely on Focus Punch.
  • When using Encore, you are totally walled by Chandelure, so you might consider run a counter or a proper check to it. Houndoom resists one STAB and is immune to the other, while also resisting the coverage move Energy Ball to take on Water-types and it can Pursuit trap Chandelure or just defeat it with Dark Pulse and Sucker Punch

[Other Options]

  • Yawn, Taunt, and Will-O-Wisp
  • Fire Punch over Flare Blitz if you really hate the recoil
  • Belly Drum
  • Zen Mode, although being very gimmicky, might work with Darmanitan's relatively wide movepool on the Special side

[Checks and Counters]

  • Slowbro is Darmanitan's #1 counter, taking only about 50% from super effective Adamant Choice Banded U-Turn, has access to recovery and Regeneration ability.
  • Suicune and Alomomola also take Darmanitan's hits very well the former one only having recovery in the form of Rest though.
  • Rhyperior can also take Superpower / Earthquake very decently thanks to Solid Rock and strike back with a super effective move like Earthquake
  • Carracosta 4x resists Darmanitan's STAB and has Solid Rock ability meaning that both Earthquake and Superpower will not deal that much damage, enabling Carracosta to possibly set up a Shell Smash or just revenge kill Darmanitan with Aqua Jet
  • Overall, due to Darmanitan's massive power, the best way to take it down is by revenge killing it. Feraligatr and Azumarill revenge kill Darmanitan with Aqua Jet and Scarf Flygon with Earthquake
 
Honestly I don't really get what all the SubPunch set achieves. If it's going to run something like that it's going to need a lot more bulk, and it may not even have that. I'd give it an OO mention at best tbh.

Speaking of OO I would give Zen Mode Darmanitan a mention in OO just because it might work but, again, it's pretty gimmicky. Sunny Day support should get an AC mention on all sets, since with a sun boost CB Flare Blitz two shots ANYTHING not just in UU but in the whole game (meaning that it's counters list drops a little bit while the sun is up).

I am testing the SubPunch on the ladder atm, when I get about 3 or 4 logs, I'll paste them so you can see how it works. Might not be worth mentioning, but at least you get an idea.

I forgot about sun, since is BL and I did not remember of Sunny Day.

And OMG Hippowdon getting wrecked. I will keep Slowbro and the remaining bulky Waters because they can take 2 hits + SR damage except for Milotic, so I might remove it.
 
This is UU. Superpower is basically useless. Rock Slide is also not too great. I'd put a Normal attack and Earthquake (reliably hits Fire-types and Rhyperior) before I'd use either of those. Keep Rock Slide mentioned for Aerodactyl though.

Actualy in UU, it's Earthquake Darmanitan doesn't need. All the relevant Fire types are wrecked by Rock Slide, while Earthquake misses on Moltres, much more of a threat than Camerupt and Emboar. Also Earthquake reveals your (lack of) Life Orb, Rock Slide doesn't.

Superpower is your strongest attack against Rhyperior and Thick Fat Snorlax, it also allows you to beat Chansey without dying to recoil, not an attack you'll be spamming by any means but has its uses.

You should put some EVs into HP. Alot of HP even. Darmanitan is actually able to create 101 HP subs.

I am testing it out and it works better vs Chansey, Deoxys-D and Dusknoir. I only find one inconvenience. If I run enough speed to outspeed the likes of Heracross and Nidoking, I need to drop a lot of Attack EVs. If I don't drop those EVs, I get outsped.

Actualy in UU, it's Earthquake Darmanitan doesn't need. All the relevant Fire types are wrecked by Rock Slide, while Earthquake misses on Moltres, much more of a threat than Camerupt and Emboar. Also Earthquake reveals your (lack of) Life Orb, Rock Slide doesn't.

Superpower is your strongest attack against Rhyperior and Thick Fat Snorlax, it also allows you to beat Chansey without dying to recoil, not an attack you'll be spamming by any means but has its uses.

Why would you need a Normal attack ? With Sheer Force and STAB, resisted Flare Blitz is stronger than Return.
Have you used the Choice Scarf set yet (as opposed to putting the best set on paper)? I'm only asking because besides Flare Blitz / U-turn, I definitely use Earthquake the most. It hits almost every relevant counter that Darmanitan has (besides Water-types), and does not miss or give stupid easy switch-ins to common Pokemon.

Rock Slide was almost never used for me, I stuck Fire Punch over it actually (though Superpower WAS useful sometimes, I'm not saying it isn't useful at all, it's mostly just useful on paper).

As for the Normal attack, I rechecked my set and I don't use one, I don't know why I said to include one. The set should be:

Also, I'd say make mention of the 212 Hp / 120 Atk / 176 Spe Jolly spread (the one for 101 HP Subs while still outspeeding Jolly Heracross and Timid Nidoking) in the SubPunch analysis. Taking only 68% from a Scarf Heracross Stone Edge is rather impressive, and it left it enough health to create a Substitute even without the Leftovers recovery. Hell, with SR in play, it still wouldn't have managed a KO straight off. The extra bulk makes revenge killing Darmanitan (which is, according to you, the best way to deal with it) a lot harder.

Have you tested it with Rock Slide yet? Because, quite honestly, it seems like a waste of time compared to the benefits of Encore. I mean sure, Chandelure is a dick, but you can easily bring in Houndoom and Pursuit or w/e.

Mention Carracosta in checks/counters. It 4x resists Flare Blitz, and it has Solid Rock for taking Superpower/EQ, along with its excellent physical defense. It also gets STAB Aqua Jet off Base 108 Attack to revenge kill weakened Darmanitan. The kicker is that it can easily set up Shell Smash against Darmanitan choice-locked into Flare Blitz or Fire Punch, especially Scarf Darmanitan.

Thanks a lot, I was actually looking for a spread like that for the SubPunch set. Please do test it, and compare it to the benefits of Encore. Against Moltres or Charizard, I could see it being useful, but not against Chandelure, who you can Encore into Shadow Ball for a free switch-in for any Normal-type, or allow it to attack you and then switch to Houndoom or something. What's good on paper is not always useful in fact, and I had enough headaches with testing Crawdaunt last Gen to prove it :/

1. Yes, I mentioned when I changed it, but I think I don't have a relevant log with 101 HP, for example Chansey's Seismic Toss or Deoxys-D's Night Shade. I still need to get one for that scenario.

2. Ok, I'll test it and then post some logs if I get some.

3. Fire Punch does not give LO recoil, but if I were to use a Sub 3 Attack set, I'd probably use Leftovers. But I want an opinion from a QC member. It's just a set I thought of when I saw that when using Rock Slide on the SubPunch, it's basically a Sub 3 Attack set and I could separate them both into SubPunch with Encore and Sub 3 Attack set with Rock Slide
