SV OU Deckydooee's Diatribe on Game Freak (Updated)

If it wasn't clear enough, Decidueye's my favourite Pokémon. However, Game Freak have done my boy dirty. With middling speed, middling bulk, and attack stats that just don't cut it in Gen 9. Still I wanted to try and make a team with it that works and hopefully get around 1800s with it, that was my goal. I've seen many peak teams with unseen Pokémon before, like Klawf, Beartic, that crazy Incineroar team, etc. So I figured maybe I can do it with Decidueye, I've reached 1900s with my Adrenaline Orb Gapdos, I can do it with another birb, right? My current peak is 1777, which was Top 200 at the time. So not quite 1800s yet, but I believe I can get there.

I appreciate any and all help for Decidueye to succeed in his mission of infiltrating Game Freak HQ and force them to make a Mega-Decidueye in Pokémon ZA.

So the previous team I had posted turned out to be just some guys + Decidueye. Now I have a much better team I'd say, with more synergy and ways to play around the team's common weaknesses. Moreover, with Roaring Moon being banned it means Decidueye has a slightly higher chance of doing what it wants, and in general it just makes teambuilding less restricting.

Decidueye @ Choice Band
Ability: Long Reach
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Poltergeist
- Leaf Blade
- Shadow Sneak
- U-turn

As I said before, Decidueye isn't good and its stats leave a lot to be desired. But with a Choice Band and a 110 BP move in Poltergeist, Decidueye can put a lot of holes into many teams. Here are some calcs that prove Decidueye's worth:

-Physicially Defensive Moltres 252+ Atk Choice Band Decidueye Poltergeist vs. 248 HP / 248+ Def Moltres: 201-237 (52.4 - 61.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
-Physically Defensive Corviknight 252+ Atk Choice Band Decidueye Poltergeist vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Corviknight: 180-213 (45.1 - 53.3%) -- 33.6% chance to 2HKO (Always 2HKOs after Stealth Rocks and always 2HKOS a Corviknight outspeeding Adamant Kingambit)
-Physically Defensive Gholdengo 252+ Atk Choice Band Decidueye Poltergeist vs. 252 HP / 196+ Def Gholdengo: 404-476 (106.8 - 125.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
-Physically Defensive Alomomola 252+ Atk Choice Band Decidueye Leaf Blade vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 354-416 (66.2 - 77.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (Almost always OHKOs with a critical hit and Poltergeist 2HKOs after Stealth Rocks)
-252+ Atk Choice Band Decidueye Poltergeist vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 147-174 (44 - 52%) -- 14.1% chance to 2HKO (Always 2HKOs after Stealth Rocks)

With slow pivoting and Future Sight support from Galarian-Slowking, Decidueye can almost always OHKO and/or 2HKO everything in the meta. The speed evs are meant for anything speed creeping Jolly Kingambit, letting it outspeed Bulky Gholdengo, Moltres, Skarmory, etc. In addition, Tera Ghost allows Decidueye to break team even more and guarantee OHKOs. Shadow Sneak is a great priority move in the current meta. With every set up Pokémon trying to not get revenge killed by Dragonite, many of them are running Tera Ghost (Maybe I should've tried Dragonite more with this team).

Here are some shadow sneak calcs against common threats in the meta:

-252+ Atk Choice Band Tera Ghost Decidueye Shadow Sneak vs. 0 HP / 124 Def Iron Moth: 158-188 (52.4 - 62.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
-252+ Atk Choice Band Tera Ghost Decidueye Shadow Sneak vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Dragapult: 320-380 (100.9 - 119.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Slowking-G.png

Slowking-Galar @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Def / 240 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Future Sight
- Sludge Bomb
- Thunder Wave
- Chilly Reception

You don't need me to tell you that Slowking is one of the best slow pivots and enablers in the meta. Future Sight is nice chip and pairs well with the team's attackers, helping Decidueye, Kyurem, and Valiant to break or sweep. Also as the team lacks Knock Off, Future Sight support is one of the only ways this team beats stall. Thunder Wave helps the team outspeed threats like Zamazenta, Dragapult, Iron Moth, Darkrai, etc. And it mitigates the problem of Decidueye's average speed stat. Chilly Reception provides great pivoting and an anti-weather option against weather teams.

Landorus-Therian @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 248 HP / 224 Def / 36 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn

Landorus-Therian is the team's ground type and sole Stealth Rocker. It provides a great check to almost all of the physical attackers in the tier and as its a physical set, it can still provide great offensive power with stab Earthquakes. I opted for a physical set here to catch out the many Glowkings that try to stay in on Landorus, and to catch out Moltres. This is because Iron Valiant would have to use up its booster speed to hit Moltres with Thunderbolt, and Kyurem risks a Will-O-Wisp as it cannot OHKO Moltres prior to Dragon Dancing. In addition, Stealth Rock support from Landorus and its ability to get rid of some of Decidueye's checks, frees up Decidueye throughout the game.

Cinderace @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Blaze
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 224 HP / 32 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Pyro Ball
- Will-O-Wisp
- Court Change
- U-turn

Cinderace provides further support to the team with fast pivoting, neutering threats with a Will-O-Wisp, and working as a half check to threats like Dragonite and Great Tusk. The bulky set aids Cinderace to take hits it shouldn't and scout out opposing Pokemon. Court Change is the only form of removal on the team, and Cinderace consistently gets court change off in my games. Removing hazards which in turn provides the team's attackers with more longevity. Loaded Dice Kyurem appreciates not taking Stealth Rocks chip, and Decidueye and Valiant both like their speed not being hindered via Sticky Webs.

1745247878920.png
Kyurem @ Loaded Dice
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 204 Atk / 52 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Icicle Spear
- Scale Shot
- Earth Power

Kyurem is one of the best set up sweepers in the meta, especially with Roaring Moon now being banned. With dragon dance to set up, Kyurem often ends up cleaning up the late game, especially with Chilly Reception support from Glowking due to the Snow Defense buff. Earth Power and the SpA evs let Kyurem do solid damage to checks like Gholdengo and Kingambit, while not taking away from its physical power. It's able to 2HKO bulky Gholdengo and Kingambit with Earth Power. It can be a great early game breaker too, punching holes with its great movepool and mixed attacks for Iron Valiant and Decidueye to clean up in the late game. I went with Tera Fairy as a means of defensively checking threats to the team like Raging Bolt, Kingambit, Iron Valiant, etc. And Tera Fairy lets it often get a crucial DD off in certain situations. Also, Kyurem's unpredictability is great as opposing teams sometimes let a lot of their Pokemon get chipped before they figure out the set.

1745248365686.png

Iron Valiant @ Booster Energy
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Thunderbolt
- Destiny Bond

Iron Valiant is the greatest equaliser of the team. Booster Speed means its the teams faster Pokemon and brings about good speed control. It's a great revenge killer with Moonblast, OHKOing or 2HKOing huge threats in Booster Speed Tusk, Zamazenta, Dragonite, opposing Iron Valiants. Destiny Bond is the best insurance you can get, especially with booster speed. Often Pokemon like Iron Crown, Iron Moth, Gholdengo, Pecharunt are too annoying for the team to handle without saccing multiple Pokemon or taking alot of damage, so Iron Valiant deals with them via Destiny Bond. Furthermore, Destiny Bond is one of the best ways to beat Stall, sacrificing itself to get rid of a Toxapex, Dondozo, etc. Tera Electric powers its Thunderbolts, being able to get rid of bulky waters like Alomomola and Primarina.

Weaknesses

Zamazenta is good into any team so no surprise here, the way I deal with it is paralysing it with Slowking and then revenge killing with Future Sight, or Iron Valiant. Iron Moth is often dealt with Tera Ghost Shadow Sneak Decidueye as it lives a Fiery Dance from Booster Speed, or with Slowking Thunder Wave/Future Sight and revenge killing with one of Landorus-T, Kyurem, and Destiny Bond Valiant. Dragonite is a big threat, Landorus-T is often sacrificed, chipping it down with Rocky Helmet and Stone Edge until it dies. Booster Speed Iron Valiant can revenge kill if multiscale is broken. The silver lining is that these options force Dragonite to exhaust tera. Gliscor gets hazards up freely against this team, and often it Knocks Off too many items, poisons too many Pokémon, or gets up too many hazards before its set can be figured out. Kyurem however is a good way to get rid of Gliscor or force it out at least. But, Gliscor can still be annoying with the right support. Darkrai and Specs Dragapult are probably the teams biggest weakness, being faster than everyone on the team, able to OHKO and/or 2HKO the entire team. Tera is often exhausted to deal with them, or Destiny Bond Iron Valiant.
