Defensive Corviknight @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
Impish / Careful Nature
EVs: 248 HP / 204 Def / 56 SpD or 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
- Brave Bird / Iron Defense
- U-turn
- Body Press / Defog
- Roost
Corviknight is a valuable defensive pivot for many teams, thanks to its great defensive typing letting it be immune to stealth rocks and natural bulk that lets it check Pokemon like Tapu Lele, Landorus-Therian, Kingambit, and Kartana. Brave Bird allows Corviknight to threaten the Grass-Types and Fighting-types it often checks, like Great Tusk, and Mega Venasaur. Iron Defense allows Corviknight to better take hits from powerful physical attackers like Zamazenta and Dragonite. Corviknight also uses U-Turn to pivot into powerup attackers when against a more passive Pokemon, like Ferrothorn, or Toxapex, allowing you to break your opponent’s team more easily. Corvniknight can use with Body Press to threaten damage on the Steel-types it checks using its stronger defenses stat, which can be boosted by Iron Defense. Corviknight could also run Defog, allowing it to somewhat reliably remove hazards for its teammates. Corviknight almost always uses to Roost, which increases its longevity, letting it better check foes such as Tapu Lele over the course of a game. The first set of EV spread is designed to allow Corviknight to take two Close Combats from Mega Lopunny after Stealth Rocks, while the other EV spread allows Corviknight to better check special attackers like Tapu Lele.
Corviknight is most common on balance and stall teams. These teams allow defensive Pokemon to cover Corviknight’s bad matchups. Corviknight struggles with Fire-types such as Mega Charizard-Y and Volcarona, which Water-types like Toxapex and Assault Vest Alomomola are able to check. And in return Corviknight can check the Ground-types and Grass-types that Toxapex and Alomomola respectively struggle with. Corviknight also struggles with powerful Electric-types like Tapu Koko and Raging Bolt. This makes Ground Types that can take their attacks, like Ting Lu and Gliscor, valuable partners. In return Corviknight can take the Grass-type and Ice-type attacks the aforementioned Pokemon dislike. Corviknight also resists Fairy and Psychic-type attacks, causing Fighting and Dragon-types like Zamazenta, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Latios to greatly appreciate Corviknight on their team. Powerful breakers, like Zamazenta and Tapu Lele, enjoy having Corviknight on their team, as it can safely bring get them on field with U-Turn while providing a fairy and steel resist, respectively, for them. Specially Defensive walls, such as Blissey and Assault Vest Alomomola greatly value Corviknight on slower paced teams, as it can take physical hits well, while Blissey and Assault Vest Alomomola can take on the special attackers like Mega Charizard-Y and Gholdengo. Corviknight functions well on stall due to its aforementioned good defensive profile and how it works well with previously mentioned stall staples like Blissey, and Gliscor. Corviknight also is greatly appreciated as a hazard remover for these defensive teams. Which is easier on stall teams because Corviknight has more chances to use Defog and remove hazards, and because it has teammates like Blissey and Specially Defensive Gliscor that can deal with Gholdengo, who can block Corviknight’s Defog.
