Quality Control Defog Corviknight [QC 1/2]

Defog (Corviknight) @ Leftovers / Sitrus Berry / Occa Berry
Level: 50
Ability: Pressure
SPs: 32 HP / 32 Def / 2 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Defog
- Brave Bird / Body Press
- Roost
- U-turn

[SET COMMENTS]
As the premier Defogger, Corviknight can find itself on virtually any team that yearns for reliable entry hazard removal and a defensive pivot. More so, Corviknight is an excellent physical wall, so it usually takes little issue when switching in on physically offensive hazard setters like Choice Scarf Hisuian and Excadrill. The last piece of the puzzle is its access to U-turn, as pivoting largely makes up for its passivity as a catch-all for dealing with switch-ins like Mega Raichu Y, Mega Meganium, and Aegislash. Corviknight's walling powress is also seen in its great Steel / Flying typing, which also grants it a STAB Brave Bird to deal with Fighting-types like Sneasler and Mega Loppunny, while also being a strong option late-game versus walls like Galarian Slowking and Hatterene. Otherwise, Body Press is noteworthy for doing a better job at checking Steel- and Dark-types like Excadrill, Hisuian Samurott, and especially Kingambit. A Relaxed nature provides the slowest U-turn possible for slow pivoting oppertunities; great given Corviknight often pivots against itself in the mirror matchup. Leftovers is preferred so that it can successfully outstall Stealth Rock setters like defensive Garchomp and Excadrill without wasting Roost PP. Sitrus Berry is an option over Leftovers with the upside of becoming immune to Poltergeist once consumed. Occa Berry is another option that, when ran with Brave Bird, allows Corviknight to trade hits with foes like Blaziken, Volcarona, Mega Meganium, and Fire Fang Garchomp.

Specially defensive pivots such as Galarian Slowking, Mega Dragalge, and Toxapex paired with Corviknight often make up the defensive cores of many balance and VoltTurn teams. Corviknight supports these teammates by dealing with foes like Meowscarada, Hisuian Samurott, and Dragonite, whereas the special walls can take on threats such as Mega Raichu Y, Mega Meganium and Rotom-Wash, respectively. However, if Corviknight gets the jump on the aforementioned special attackers by landing a U-turn on the switch-in, then it greatly appreciates the help of revenge killers such as Dragapult, Mega Metagross, and Mega Delphox. Dragapult is also a great offensive pivot to form a VoltTurn core with Corviknight, along with Choice Scarfers such as Hisuian Samurott, Greninja, and Meowscarada. These Dark-types also alleviate some of the pressure put on Corviknight by Ghost-types like Aegislash and Ceruledge, whereas they rely on Corviknight as a defensive pivot against the likes of Mega Loppunny and Mega Starraptor. Corviknight is by no means an end-all be-all physical wall, so pairing it with others like Garchomp, Hippowdon, Rotom-Wash, and Hatterene is often necessary so that it is not over ran by wallbreakers such as Ceruledge, Blaziken, Mega Swampert, and mixed offensive Garchomp, respectively. Hatterene is also notable for alleviating the role of dealing with hazards thanks to its ability Magic Bounce, which also highlights how it could be a great idea to pair Corviknight with another form of hazard control like Rapid Spin Excadrill to deal with entry hazard setters that it struggles with like like Glimmora and Archaludon. Corviknight is a staple on teams with entry hazard vulnerable sweepers like Dragonite, Volcarona, and Ceruledge, all of which can appreciate U-turn support as much as Defog. These offensive threats in return make up for Corviknight's own passivity.

Probably worth mentioning some breakers in the teammates section. Corviknight can safely bring a lot of different breakers in like Raichu Y, Zard Y, Mega Meganium etc. safely while also helping with Hazard woes.

great work

As the premier Defogger, Corviknight can find itself on virtually any team that yearns for a valid defense against hazard-focused playstyles. (hazard focused playstyles = every playstyle atm sob, i feel like the opening should better establish why corv is so "meta-defining: rather than only calling it the premier defogger something like: "Corvikight compresses reliable removal and slow pivoting into one slot") More so, Corviknight is an excellent physical wall, so it usually takes little issue when switching in on physically offensive hazard setters like Garchomp, Hisuian Samurott, and Excadrill. (i just take issue with corv being a grachomp check now a days, those sets have adapted, less "tankchomp" and more so "life orb" flame thrower, excadrill and hamurott to an extent are good examples, but hamurott needs to be handled more carefully, you can say it checks common choice scarf variants tho) The last piece of the puzzle is its access to U-turn, as pivoting largely makes up for its passivity as a catch-all for dealing with switch-ins like Mega Raichu Y, Rotom-Wash, and Aegislash. (maybe save it for the paragraph below but i'd give one or two concrete recipients instead, such as meganium coming in against rotom-wash or hamurott being brought in against aegislash) Corviknight's walling powress is also seen in its great Steel / Flying typing, which also grants it a STAB Brave Bird to deal with Fighting-types like Sneasler and Mega Loppunny, while also being a strong option late-game versus walls like Galarian Slowking and Hatterene. Leftovers is nearly a necessasity on Defog Corviknight so that it can successfully outstall Stealth Rock setters like defensive Garchomp and Excadrill without wasting Roost PP. (frame lefties as the "preferred option" not really a "necessasity" i'll explain below:) Sitrus Berry is generally a downgrade to Leftovers but it can be opted for in a pinch when another teammate absolutely needs Leftovers. (so i wouldn't call sitrust a downgrade at all its immediate recovery is more useful in faster games, and once it is consumed, poltergeist from aegislash and ceruledge fails) Occa Berry is another option that, when ran with Brave Bird, allows Corviknight to trade hits with foes like Blaziken, Volcarona, and Fire Fang Garchomp. (i would put specific benchmarks and a better third target: like fire fang chomp is okay... but is not a meaningful occa berry benchmark because physically defensive corviknight already survives even a +2 fire fang from full! occa berry can instead let corviknight survive +2 blaziken's flare blitz from full and OHKO it with brave bird, or survive +1 volcarona's flamethrower and KO offensive variants back with brave bird for example. mega meganium could be another relevant target?

+2 32 Atk Blaziken Flare Blitz vs. 32 HP / 32+ Def Occa Berry Corviknight: 135-160 (65.8 - 78%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 32 SpA Volcarona Flamethrower vs. 32 HP / 0 SpD Occa Berry Corviknight: 135-160 (65.8 - 78%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
32+ SpA Mega Sol Meganium-Mega Weather Ball (100 BP Fire) vs. 32 HP / 0 SpD Occa Berry Corviknight: 115-136 (56 - 66.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Specially defensive pivots such as Galarian Slowking, Mega Dragalge, and Toxapex (pex has no pivoting moves) paired with Corviknight often make up the defensive cores of many balance and VoltTurn teams. Corviknight supports these teammates by dealing with foes like Meowscarada, Hisuian Samurott, and Dragonite, whereas the special walls can take on threats such as Mega Raichu Y, Mega Meganium and Rotom-Wash. (this is what i meant earlier hamu can still make progress with edge and disrupt corv with encore, while fire punch dragonite can overwhelm this set after boosting enough + make it clear which special wall covers which threat bc toxapex doesn't handle raichu y and rotom) However, if Corviknight gets the jump on the aforementioned speciall attackers by landing a U-turn on the switch-in, then it greatly appreciates the help of revenge killers such as Dragapult, Mega Metagross, and Mega Delphox. Dragapult is also a great offensive pivot to form a VoltTurn core with Corviknight, along with Choice Scarfers such as Hisuian Samurott, Greninja, and Meowscarada. corviknight is so splashable that it is easy to list every possible partner, but the analysis only needs one well-explained defensive core, a couple offensive beneficiaries of defog and slow u-turn, and the main threats that force it out. prioritize two-way synergy over naming every viable partner, also mention how corv is great at empowering hazard-vulnerable wincons like dragonite, volcarona, and ceruledge etc. and emphasise it a bit

Toxapex is much less viable than the other two examples and works differently than them. It can't really respond to the same threats as them but can deal with Meowscarada by itself. I would remove Toxapex's mention from here, then quickly mention it as an answer to stuff like Ceruledge and Mega Lopunny for stall/semi stall teams. It also makes it easier to mention the other two guys answering Mega Raichu Y and Rotom-Wash. However, if Corviknight gets the jump on the aforementioned special attackers by landing a U-turn on the switch-in, then it greatly appreciates the help of revenge killers attackers Not revenge killing if there is no KO happening. You may reformulate it if you want to adapt it further... such as Dragapult, You mention Dragapult as an answer to the "aforementioned" special attackers, but Dragapult cannot beat Mega Meganium reliably. Mega Metagross, and Mega Delphox. Dragapult is also a great offensive pivot to form a VoltTurn core with Corviknight, along with Choice Scarfers such as Hisuian Samurott, Greninja Hydreigon more common and can switch into Rotom-Wash, and Meowscarada.
