Deoxys-S (Analysis) [QC 0/3]

Agreeing with the addition of an LO all out attacking set, it's not only the most obvious Deoxys-S set but I think it's also the most threatening in this metagame. I was stunned when I didn't see it there. I think ExtremeSpeed and Shadow Ball should be added as other options for Bad Ass' set though.

Psycho Boost should definitely be an option somewhere too, it's Deoxys-S' strongest attack and Psychic has been surprisingly good as an attacking type in this metagame.

Superpower should also be on the lead set so that you can set up even if they start with Tyranitar.

Counters needs to add Bronzong, Jirachi and Metagross, and things like Swampert that are bulky enough to deal with neutral attacks. Anything that can take a hit from Deoxys-S' mediocre attacking stats is a counter really, although it has the movepool to wear things down if it can keep coming in.

You might also want to mention that your Rapid Spin counters listed can be destroyed by Deoxys-S with the right move choice.

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone. I am neck-deep in revision for my finals, which start in 2 days and go on up to the 17th. I shall implement all the suggested changes, and beef this up a lot when my exams end.

I'm posting here again, since there are some changes that you seem to have missed.

The first set should look like this:

[SET]
name: Entry Hazards
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Spikes
move 3: Taunt / Magic Coat
move 4: Superpower
item: Focus Sash / Leftovers
nature: Jolly
EV's: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe

  1. I changed the name 'Entry Hazards Lead' to just 'Entry Hazards.' Leads don't really exist in Gen. 5 due to team previews, and even though Deoxys-S will be seen leading the majority of the time, it can still be used outside of the lead slot. As such, "Entry Hazards Lead' isn't an entirely fitting name.
  2. I slashed Magic Coat with Taunt. Having them both as main options is redundant. Just explain the benefits of each and why someone would want to use Taunt over Magic Coat, and vice versa, in your analysis.
  3. I have no idea why Stealth Rock is listed as the last move in your analysis, while being slashed with ExtremeSpeed of all things. Deoxys-S is arguably the best SR user in the game; as such, it should be the first move listed, without being slashed with anything.
  4. Superpower is now the final move, since it enables Deoxys-S to deter Tyranitar (unless they're running Chople Berry, which is quite common).
  5. Focus Sash is now an item choice. From experience, I've found Sash to be more useful than Leftovers. Many players like leading with Scizor and whatnot and U-turning against Deoxys-S, so Focus Sash is nifty for situations like that.
For the Dual Screens set, add Stealth Rock in the final slot and make it the first slash, with Spikes being the second slash. I've used Dual Screens Deoxys-S before, and it doesn't really "easily lay down 3 layers of Spikes" like you say. It'll be low on health by the time it sets up Reflect and Light Screen, giving you only time to lay down one layer (which is why Stealth Rock is preferable here).

Now, please read this and this post again and implement the changes suggested to the "Anti-Lead" set you have in your OP. In a nutshell, the name "Anti-Lead" should be changed to "All Out Attacker" and the moveset should be Thunderbolt / Ice Beam / Superpower / Hidden Power Fire.

Lastly, I'd like to see you beef up this analysis more. It's really terse in its current state and doesn't fully explain the full extent of what Deoxys-S can do. Deoxys-S is a very important Pokemon in the OU metagame, so I'd like to see more emphasis put on what it can do!

Besides the obvious changes to go along with the current bans and whatnot, I second the idea of listing a Choice Scarf set for Deoxys-S. With minimal speed investment to outspeed Excadrill and a +SpAtk nature, Deoxys can utilize an amazing Scarf set with bulk and power. Trick is another key move for Deoxys, and is often unexpected.
Thanks to team preview, the player knows exactly what Deoxys' role should be in the battle, whether it be to save its Scarf for when Excadrill comes out or Trick it away onto a set-up Pokemon.

Ok, I'm really disappointed by the lack of updates this thread has received. The last edit this thread received was over a month ago. Deoxys-S is a very important Pokemon in the BW metagame and needs a more active thread holder. The write-up in the OP is quite terse doesn't fully explain Deoxys-S's capabilities either, so I'll be removing Calm Pokemaster's reservation on this analysis due to general inactivity.

Jabba has expressed interest in writing Deoxys-S's analysis and I'm sure he'll do a fantastic job. As such, he will be taking over this.
