Deoxys-S

[SET]
name: Magic Coat
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Spikes
move 3: Taunt/Ice Beam/Hidden Power [Fire]/SuperPower/Psycho Boost
move 4: Magic Coat
item: Focus Sash/Leftovers
nature: Bold/Jolly (for Super Power/Low Kick), Timid (for SpA Moves)
evs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 Spe

Why this set deserves to be on-site:
  • With the rise of Prankster Lead Pokemon, this set would combat them giving the user a chance to set up hazards.
  • Another GREAT way to utilize Deoxys-S, without making any mind blowing changes to this great pokemon.
  • It helps all types of teams that utilize hazards to their advantage.

Additional Comments:
  • This set can use an attacking move depending on the build of your team (i.e. Superpower, Ice Beam, Hidden Power [Fire], Psycho Boost).
  • With no attacks, this set is still good, for the fact that its main job is to shrug off taunters or status inducing leads to set up hazards.
  • 252 HP, 48 Def ev's, are their to give Deoxys decent bulk to do its job, 208 Spe ev's to out speed scarf rotom, that may trick you their scarf first turn locking you into a move that wont get you nowhere.
  • Leftovers/Focus Sash: Leftovers for longer time on the field, Focus Sash for those first turn critical hits and it works as a great bluff for the Life Orb or Expert Belt.

Teammates & Counters:
  • Any spin blocker that can aid your teams strategy, whether it would be an offensive spin blocker (Gengar, Chandelure), defensive (Duclops, Dusknoir, Jellicent).
  • Jirachi leads that may induce status with an attacking move (i.e. Body slam).
  • Strong priority attackers that will limit your entry hazard set up.

Prankster lead pokemon are not rising: Thundurus has been banned whilst Whimsicott is sinking further into UU, Tornadus doesn't threaten Deoxys-S with its support moves and Liepard just isn't used. Don't make stuff up.

Magic coat is stil cool against other Deo-S and helps a lot against Prankster lead. It looks a lot like the regular Spiker anyway. Give him more Defense since speed is useless with Magic Coat and no attack

Even if this were somehow different from other Deoxys-s, which I don't think it is, then I still don't think you need Taunt and Magic Coat on the same Pokemon since Magic Coat ostensibly stops prankster leads from taunting you, which I understand to be the main purpose of fast taunt anyway.

Can't believe I forgot about the new additions from Dream World. I retract my statement then. o_O

On the other hand, if the opponent is leading with a Prankster pokemon, then just use something else instead of Deoxys-S and keep the moveslot.

isn't magic coat already mentioned on the analysis' additional comments? i can't see how that set plays any differently.

Different ev spread for more effectiveness. The standard spread doesn't give you enough bulk to set up hazards.

The reason why I gave it 208 Spe ev's is to outspeed timid scarfed rotom-w which can trick you it's scarf trying to lock you into Stealth Rock, which will enable you to setup spikes as it Hydro Pumps or Voltswitches.

I put taunt because I had an ugly encounter where my opponent lead out with their set up sweeper and decimated my team. I edited the set with the common attacks that and alternate nature if you decide to give it one.

Well that depends on the strategy of your overall team.

Magic Coat is a gimmicky option at best and it already has a mention on the standard analysis. Furthermore, Mental Herb is better option anyway.
