Deoxys-S [QC 0/3]

"to sea, or not to sea" ~Melodramatic Sailor
Overview
########
  • Deoxys-S boasts the highest Speed in the entire game, leaving it a great ability as a support Pokemon.
  • Has access to the omnipresent Knock Off, allowing it to cripple opposing Pokemon on a case-by-case basis.
  • Has mediocre offensive stats in a more offensive based meta.
  • Has pitiful bulk, relying on Focus Sash to live more than a single hit.
  • Has nice utility in hazards and Taunt.

Suicide Lead
########
name: Suicide Lead
move 1: Taunt
move 2: Stealth Rock
move 3: Spikes
move 4: Knock Off
ability: Pressure
item: Focus Sash
evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
nature: Naive / Jolly

Moves
========
  • Taunt allows Deoxys-S to prevent opposing Pokemon from setting up hazards or setting up in general, making it a nice utility move due to the extreme Speed of Deo-S.
  • Stealth Rock is a great entry hazard that can be devastating in a meta filled with Flying- and Fire-types (Fire moreso directed at Ho-oh but meh) while allowing Deo-S to whittle down opposing threats for the rest of the team.
  • Spikes can be equally devastating to grounded Pokemon though Deoxys-S does not have enough bulk to make use of multiple Spikes nor is it able to set them up more than once per game.
  • Knock Off allows Deoxys-S to cripple opposing Pokemon by removing their item, making some Pokemon near useless (see: Taunt+Knock Off on GeoXern [not useless but makes it much harder for Xern to set up])

Set Details
========
  • 252 HP EVs slightly increase the potential for Deoxys-S to survive an Attack.
  • 252 Speed allows Deoxys-S to outspeed any Choice Scarf Pokemon below 100 base Speed, most notably Xerneas and Genesect.
  • Focus Sash allows Deoxys-S to always move twice unless the opposing Pokemon is A.) Mega Kangaskhan, B.) Has access to a multiple hit move, or C.) Has priority under its belt, meaning that it [Deoxys] can typically set up both entry hazards, unless the circumstance requires a Knock Off / Taunt.

Usage Tips
========
  • Deoxys-S will typically be your lead since it has access to half of the entry hazards there are alongside Taunt.
  • Works best on a team that appreciates hazards whittling down opposing threats as well as one that can mitigate the loss of a team member early on.
  • Pokemon that typically set up such as Xerneas or EKiller Arceus should be Taunt'd relatively early, preventing them from having a chance to set up instead of them setting up while Deoxys-S is caught setting up hazards.

Team Options
========
  • Reflecting back on the fact that suicide leads usually work best in tandem with hyper offense, having set-up sweepers that appreciate having opposing threats and walls whittled down via hazards should be run. Examples of this are GeoXern and EKiller Arceus, as well as the newly-anticipated MegaMence.
  • MGengar can like, trap and remove any Spinner while spinblocking them, which is nice.
  • Strong offensively pressuring Pokemon take full advantage of the hazards due to the repeated switch-outs they can force.

Dual Screens
########
name: Dual Screens
move 1: Reflect
move 2: Light Screen
move 3: Taunt
move 4: Stealth Rock
Other Options
########
  • Psycho Boost + Superpower: Takes advantage of the suicide role, though very seldom works due to mediocre attacking stats.
  • Magic Coat + Counter: Kinda gimmicky and reliant on predictions, though can be used to dispose of immediate threats due to Focus Sash.
  • Trick(?): Again, kinda gimmicky but can neutered opposing Pokemon by Tricking them something such as a Choice Scarf or a Toxic Orb, etc.

Checks & Counters
########
  • **Taunt**: If Deoxys-S has Taunt used on it somehow, it becomes set-up fodder and essentially useless.
  • **Defog / Rapid Spin**: Both of these moves ruin the hard work of Deoxys-S since it typically can only set up hazards once per game (due to suicide lead'ing). Defog users or Rapid Spinners waste Deoxys-S' teamslot.
  • **Magic Bounce**: One of the biggest threats to hazard setters in the lower tiers, Deoxys-S is still halted in its tracks by Magic Bounce, though Magic Bounce still isn't very common.
  • **Multi-hit Moves**: Multi-hit moves can break Deoxys-S' Focus Sash and potentially OHKO it, limiting it to one move. Mega Kangashkhan is probably the largest threat in this realm, with all of its high powered moves smashing Deoxys-S twice.
  • **Priority**: To an extent, priority moves can limit Deoxys-S to one turn after it is brought down to its Focus Sash.

[Gonna edit in the Dual Screens set soon, have things to do as of right now.]

I'm not qc, but your deoxys set isnt very viable. Lead deos runs rocks/taunt/spikes/ and then knock off or magic coat. This set is ineffective as psycho boost and superpower arent very good. You would rather just set up hazards instead of attacking, and taunt if you're done setting them up. 16+ (I think? you'd have to check) outspeeds deo-a which is relevant, but maybe mention that in set details. It's attacks are also weak, and it benefits from max hp much more. This mon is purely meant to secure a hazards advantage, and not "nuke" things with attack; that is deo-a's job. Deo-s is bulkier and thus can sometime also get up a spike. Also be sure to stress that is very important your other 5 mons can abuse the hazard advantage enough to justify being down 5-6.

Add a Dual Screens set:

Dual Screens
########
name: Dual Screens
move 1: Taunt
move 2: Reflect
move 3: Light Screen
move 4: Stealth Rock
ability: Pressure
item: Light Clay
evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
nature: Timid

With so many gnarly setup sweepers in the tier (PDon, M-Mence, Arceus, Xern, Rayquaza, Darkrai, CM Mewtwo-Y, etc) this can be pretty useful and will usually pay off at least somewhat even with all the Defog in the tier atm. It also isn't totally wrecked by Magic Bounce since they can't exactly prevent Screens. Only meant for use on HO teams obviously.

Screens > SR + Spikes set in this metagame, Defog lati@s and tina-O don't really struggle removing Deoxys-S's hazards. Make the screens set first set. Anyway, onto the QC check...

Overview

Remove the point about offensive stats, it's completely irrelevant as Deoxys-S isn't used as an attacker here as it often was in XY OU.

"Pitiful" is underestimating 50 / 90 / 90 defenses with full HP investment, especially after it gets a screen or two up. "Mediocre" might be a better word for it. Mention that it plays as a suicide lead, though the Screens set can be conserved mid-game to facilitate a sweep by a teammate such as SD Arceus-Ground. Also, mention screens when discussing Deo-S's utility.

Suicide Lead

"252 HP EVs slightly increase the potential for Deoxys-S to survive an Attack." <----- change this to "252 HP EVs maximize Deoxys-S's bulk without compromising its amazing Speed.

Deoxys-S shouldn't Taunt Xerneas, it should use Knock Off to remove Leftovers / Choice Scarf / Power Herb. If your opponent is dumb enough to lead with Geomancy (see: half the ladder), use Knock Off to force to prevent Geomancy's effect from immediately activity and Taunt turn 2...then set up hazards. EKiller is tricky since Silk Scarf / Life Orb can 2HKO with an unboosted ExtremeSpeed, hopefully you have a reliable check like Ghost Arceus if it reveals itself turn 1.

In Team Options, you MUST stress teammates that can pressure Defog users, such as Darkrai. Fast Taunt users like Mewtwo and Darkrai can stop Defog, Arceus-Ghost can spinblock the uncommon Rapid Spin while slaying Giratina-O and weakened Lati@s, and naturally Xerneas / EKiller / Rayquaza can discourage the use of Defog by how naturally threatening they are (especially with hazard support, as you noted).

Screens

Best set, make #1.

Use Fireburn's spread with the 4 EV's in Defense instead of Attack. In Usage Tips, please stress that if you can only set up one screen, make sure you set up the one that hampers your opponent's team the most (this likes to set up Rocks whenever possible). Also stress the importance of immediate offensive pressure in Team Options.

Other Options

You mean Mirror Coat, not Magic Coat. With that said, mention Magic Coat in a sentence, too, even though it's p bad and Deoxys almost never can afford to run it. I'm OK with the Psycho Boost mention but Superpower is awful and not even worth the OO mention.

Checks & Counters

Mention Prankster Taunt from Thundy and Sableye specifically. This also hates random Magic Coat users like support Arceus. Also specify Magic Bounce users like Mega Diancie.

Cloyster deserves a mention, as its a fellow lead that has a natural advantage over Deo-S & the only reason I'm OK with Psycho Boost in OO.
252 HP EVs slightly increase the potential for Deoxys-S to survive an Attack.
