Actually, I screwed up on the def drop thing. Kindle has -5 def to start the round, which decays at the end of A1. I doubt it changes your actions so I’m reffing anyways.

The little monkey starts off by abusing its speed advantage…its one point speed advantage. Remember folks, in battles like this, every little bit counts! As a result, it just manages to sneak underground as Lucy crashes into the ground with a reckless attack. With all of the stat drops, that’s gotta hurt! The two then exchange attacks, and Lucy, trying to hit Kindle while it’s still weak, goes in for a powerful, super effective Earthquake. Kindle still stands, and hits Lucy back for a truck ton of damage. Ladies and gentlemen, despite just switching in to a -5 defense Chimchar, this Riolu is left with 4 health! Endquote is absolutely steamrolling in this match! Will DFrog at least be able to take this crazy monkey down?

Cody leans down and picks up a sole flower, brushing off it the odious ashes. A single tumbleweed blows past, sauntering across the sun-dried mud…

He stands, facing the darkness and the paradoxes of the universe. The reserves of hope have been used up, and he knows that there is only one outcome…but nonetheless, he must fight.

His fur coat glistens as they catch the rising rays of the sun. Glinting, his eyes narrow as he surveys his opponent. The memories of his past come rushing back to him, in trickles, in deluges...

In a different time and place…

Cody lies at home, enveloped in his mother’s caring fur. The soft glow of candlelight illuminates the dark corners, banishing them. The two are in bed, reading. And Cody was happy.

A knock came at the door. Cody’s father stepped outside to answer it, and a blur of darkness enters the room. His mother stands up, and her age, so carefully conceals, shows so very painfully. Weakly, she hugs Cody in her arms. I love you, she said. Cody didn’t know what was going on, even as he was set down carefully in the blankets and wrapped up and told not to move. He didn’t understand the cries that he heard, nor the snarls that spoke. He peeked his head up, and saw black wolves sauntering around his house. Then, he closed his eyes.

And then he opened them, looking at Nightfall in front of him.

The clouds…they’re coming.

A gray haze envelops the clear sky, and the dry earth gratefully takes a drink of water. The rain is heavy, fat teary drops that falls, without hope or reason, downwards. Mingling with the sweat on Cody’s back, it gently caresses the soft, lustrous fur.

In the rain, nobody can see you cry.

As the Zorua makes a last ditch attempt to damage Cody, Cody’s salty tears stain his wounds. He remembers that he had written for his mother, that poem on a paper that he still kept tucked in his fur, a reminder of times when breeze was butterscotch sweet and family was a sanctuary and he was happy. But he couldn’t think about that now. Viciously, he attacks Nightfall as it is down, mercilessly. A Cody before this may have shown mercy, a Cody that had his mother to guide him, a Cody that had a mother…

Zorua attacks with a pulse of darkness, and Cody howls in outrage. The only blue sky to be found was in Cody’s eyes, deep-set and soulful. He had read that poem so many times that it came easily to his tongue. The paper was stained, ink ran where it bumped into the dried tears…

A single rose can be my garden,
Quiet blossom, silent dawn.
Let darkness be my only stage,
With you, my shadow, watching on.

An unseen star can be my twilight,
Lofty twinkling, dreamy stairs.
Come reddened tides or rain of stone,
I sleep—I know you’re there.

Cody charged forward. Teeth bared, legs burning, relentlessly, only the dark-skinned animal in front of him could be seen. The ground beneath him passed away in a blur. It was some mysterious force of the body that propelled him forward, as if this attack may provide closure…

The Zorua before him was slammed away, skidding, tumbling, falling. At last, when it stood still, it lay one head pointed towards Cody, eyes open. The rain fell and washed away the mud in Nightfall’s coat. Cody stood still. The rain drowned out an injured whine as the Zorua shuddered on the ground. Cody stood still. The rain slammed down, one after the other, on Zorua’s eyelids as they closed for the last time. The rain fell, drip, drop, drip.

High above, thunderclouds passed by as Cody looked up at them. The clouds rolled over each other, intertwining, fighting, making love as they rained down on the Earth below.
