[SET COMMENTS]
Diancie carves itself a niche in the metagame as an Yveltal check able to provide a lot of additional support to its team. Because its offensive presence is quite non-existent, Diancie should be carrying as much suppport options it can. Stealth Rock is one of the reasons Diancie can be justified in a team, as it allows partners like Necrozma-DM and Primal Groudon to forgo this move and benefit from an extra moveslot. Heal Bell is also a noteworthy move that is particulary useful at waking up Rest Zygarde-C and Primal Groudon, as well as curing Ho-Oh and non-Refresh Arceus-Ground or Water. This is particularly valuable as clerics are extremely rare, the only other option for that role being Chansey. Power Gem lets Diancie hit Yveltal hard and pressure Ho-Oh immensely so as to keep Stealth Rock up against it without being forced into Rest too often due to Sacred Fire's damage and burns. Rest is Diancie's only reliable source of recovery. Clear Body is the cornerstone of this set, as it prevents Dynamaxed Yveltal's Max Darkness from lowering its Special Defense stat to let it avoid the 2HKO. Finally, the item Diancite pushes Diancie's utility much further, as Magic Bounce enables it to completely block Spikes from Ferrothorn and Deoxys-Speed, as well as Sticky Web from Smeargle. Leftovers can be used if another Mega Evolution is desired and so as to reduce the number of times it must use Rest by mitigating Stealth Rock and status damage, but without the ability to have Magic Bounce it is more difficult to justify using Diancie. Maximum Special Defense is needed to reliably wall Yveltal throughout the game and especially during Dynamax.
Use Diancie as a great role compression Pokemon that can beat every Yveltal set on its own, unlike Ho-Oh which loses to Rock Slide variants and is crippled by Knock Off, Tyranitar which loses to Focus Blast and Chansey which loses to Knock Off and Taunt variants. Diancie can provide a lot of support to its team: it can cure statuses and block entry Hazards once Mega evolved. Diancie should be played differently depending on the opposing team: if the opponent has an Yveltal, make sure not to Mega evolve Diancie so as to retain its original's form higher bulk and ability Clear Body. Against bulkier teams with Ferrothorn, feel free to Mega evolve so as to protect your team from its Spikes and Knock Off. You can either decide to PP stall Ferrothorn with Rest, but usually you can just use Mega Diancie's presence on your team as a Spikes-deterrent without being forced to actually send it on Ferrothorn every time. Diancie faces competition from Tyranitar; your choice should be based on what you need specifically. Even though Tyranitar walls more threats -Eternatus, Mewtwo, and Lunala for instance-, Diancie provides more utility, doesn't lose to Focus Blast Yveltal, but most importantly, it allows your Necrozma-DM to reliably heal itself with Morning Sun, which Tyranitar's Sand Stream does not. Diancie appreciates being paired with checks to top threats, as it is extremely passive and unable to threaten anything but Yveltal, Ho-Oh, and, after Mega evolution, Ferrothorn mainly. Necrozma-DM is a great pick in any team and checks Zacian-C and Xerneas for Diancie. Defensive Zygarde-C, Arceus-Ground, and Primal Groudon are great partners, since the former two can check Primal Groudon, Necrozma-DM, certain variants of Mega Rayquaza, and opposing Zygarde-C for Diancie, while the latter checks Primal Kyogre and Zacian-C; Zygarde-C and Primal Groudon also benefit greatly from Heal Bell support. Ferrothorn is also a good partner, as it checks Primal Kyogre and support Arceus-Ground and Arceus-Water, its Spikes make up for Diancie's passiveness, and once Mega evolved the latter can shut down opposing Ferrothorns. Ferrothorn can also Knock Ho-Oh's item off, rendering it extremely pressured by the Stealth Rock Diancie can set up against it. Keep in mind that even with a Diancite, Chansey remains serious competition for Diancie, since it also has access to Heal Bell, walls non-Knock Off Yveltal, and can wall many more special threats such as Xerneas and Primal Kyogre.
