Diancie

[OVERVIEW]

  • Diancie is an effective Stealth Rock setter due to immense special bulk and great defensive typing in Rock / Fairy, allowing it to check powerful threats such as Moltres, Latias, Togekiss, and Hydreigon lacking Flash Cannon.
  • Diancie can additionally compress the role of a cleric; Z-Heal Bell in tandem with its part Rock-typing allows Diancie to beat Poison-types such as Gengar and Alolan Muk in a 1v1 scenario, which is something other Fairy-types struggle with.
  • With better special bulk and a lack of two 4x weaknesses, Diancie is able to set itself apart from competitors like Rhyperior.
  • However, despite its high defenses, Diancie's bulk is heavily mitigated heavily by its low HP, ultimately limiting what it's able to wall.
  • Diancie sports weaknesses to common Steel-, Water-, and Ground-type attacks from the likes of Scizor, Primarina, and Mamoswine. Diancie struggles with the presence of Scizor in particular, as it's able to pose an immense threat to Diancie with Bullet Punch and can even use it as setup fodder.
  • Outside of Z-Heal Bell, Diancie has no form of reliable recovery, making it quite easy to wear down. Using a Z-Crystal on Diancie is a considerable opportunity cost which limits its use to defensive teams, whereas Leftovers leaves Diancie with only residual recovery.
  • Diancie competes with other defensive users of Stealth Rock such as Swampert and Hippowdon, both of which sport higher amounts of overall bulk and their own solid defensive typings, and the latter having access to reliable recovery in Slack Off.

Moves
========
  • Stealth Rock is an important component for any competitive team due to its ability to inflict damage on switch-ins.
  • Heal Bell provides clerical support to teams, allowing Diancie to heal off status conditions to crippled teammates. When powered through Normalium Z, this provides Diancie with a one-time full heal.
  • Alternatively, Toxic is Diancie's best method of crippling bulky Pokemon such as Mega Slowbro and Suicune, which are otherwise unfazed by Diancie and can use it as setup fodder for Calm Mind. Other Stealth Rock leads such as Hippowdon and Rhyperior are able to stomach hits from Diancie but hate being hit with Toxic.
  • Diamond Storm
  • Moonblast
  • Hidden Power Fire is a viable option that allows Diancie to nail Scizor attempting to switch in. Note that this move should be ran with 12 Special Attack EVs as to ensure that it can always OHKO non-bulky Scizor after 2 layers of Spikes.
  • Earth Power is similarly able to OHKO Magneton and dent Cobalion attempting to switch in.
