Dinner is ready! [BW OU RMT]

DINNER IS READY!

RotomHeatFormFINALXous.png

Hello Smogoners. This time Matt tried to do a team using a Pokémon that has been forgotten from the metagame: Rotom-H. This Pokémon is great: it has unique resistances, and can come on a lot of types. He's a total counter of Grass types and, resisting Grass, Ground, Ice and Fire, can counter SunSaur. He's the only Pokémon that resists Boltbeam, Grass+Fire, Ground+Flying and Ice+Ground combo that many Pokémon use for coverage. This allows him to come on a huge variety of threats. It has a x4 resistance to Bullet Punch too, and resists Bug too. Thanks to this he can check easily Scizor.Only a thing blocks it: a damn SR weakness.

BUILDING PHASE

First, I needed a good sinergy with Rotom-H. Breloom was good. I opted for the Bulk Upper since he's great against Rain, that cripple my Overheat.

I felt I needed a way to stop physical attackers, especially Conkeldurr. Bulky DD Gyarados is great here.

2 SR weak. SPINNEEEEEEEEEEEEER. I chose Starmie because of the good typing, access to Natural Cure+Recover and good offensive stats.

SubCMLatias is ready to wreck my team. So I chose a good way to stop every Draco Meteor: Jirachi.

A CLOSER LOOK

Rotom-H @
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
  • Volt Switch - Great scouting move for a scarfed Pokémon, it allows me to revenge kill +1 Gyarados and do little damage to everything while switching to the right counter. Easies prediction a lot and helps the whole team. If bulky grounds aren't around.
  • Overheat - This is the key that makes Rotom-H different from Rotom-W. With this high-powered STAB move I can obliterate almost anything that does not resist it. Pokémons like Celebi and Ferrothorn will not like to come in to eat a Volt Switch and be OHKOed instead.
  • Trick - Since with HP Ice, Overheat, and Volt Switch I gain perfect coverage, I can use a slot of the moveset to cripple walls or slow setuppers to the like of Conkeldurr, Chansey or Gastrodon.
  • Hidden Power [Ice] - This HP completes the coverage and allows me to OHKO Salamence and Dragonite after SR damage. OHKOes things like Gliscor and Landorus in switch-in too.

Gyarados ? @
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 176 HP / 128 Atk / 204 Spd
Adamant Nature(+Atk, -SAtk)
  • Dragon Dance - This move is freaking powerful on a Pokémon like Gyarados. Powering up my Speed and Atk at +1 I am able to rip teams apart, mainly thanks to Gyarados' freaking high attack and good speed.
  • Taunt - This move is freaking epic on a BulkyDDDos. Thanks to this I can enter on Conkeldurr, block his setup, and begin to DD (+0 Payback does shitty damage to Dos) and proceed to sweep, or enter on a Skarmory and setup while blocking his Whirlwind, or even setup on Jellicent without Scald while blocking W-o-W.
  • Waterfall - The main STAB move I'm going to use against my enemies. Water STAB is great because of his great coverage alone, and coupled with Bounce gives me almost perfect coverage with only two STAB moves. His flinch rate is cool too.
  • Bounce - Against bulky Grass/Water/Dragon I use this. It has only 8 PP, but has an higher BP of Waterfall and a nice 30% paralysis rate, which couples perfectly with the flinch rate of Waterfall. It gives me great neutral coverage and the ability to hit super effectively Conkeldurr and other Fighting types.

Breloom ? @
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 236 HP / 212 SDef / 60 Spd
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
  • Bulk Up - Great move to power up my physical bulk in order to take more easily hits like Scizor U-Turn or every move in Landorus's moveset. I can easily find setup field on Pokémons like Tyranitar, Ferrothorn, Politoed (bar Choice Specs Ice Beam variants). After a couple of Bulk Up I can pass through Gliscor with Seed Bomb.
  • Drain Punch - Poison Heal+Drain Punch= gg. Really, this is amazing. I can do good damage to Heatran and Forretress. Ferrothorn is OHKOed after some Bulk Up, and Forretress takes a lot of damage too.
  • Seed Bomb - Seed Bomb is my main STAB, allowing me to go dismantle Rain teams, Landorus, Gliscor (after a lot of BU), Jellicent, Vaporeon, Gastrodon, Quagsire (that ignores boosts), Hippowdon, Rotom-W among others.
  • Spore - FUCKING. BROKEN. MOVE. Thanks to this, even Breloom's counters become setup fodder for her. Reuniclus, after the sleep, is destroyed by Jirachi or becomes setup fodder and is killed by Seed Bombs. Espeon will not like to come in because is 2HKOed by Seed Bomb.

Terrakion @
Trait: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
  • Stone Edge - Terrakion is (in)famous for his great double STAB, and this is the perfect Rock move for him. It has low accuracy (TOO MUCH LOW) but destroys things like +1 Nite, Tornadus, Salamence, Kyurem, THE WHOLE SUN (bar Donphan) and Gyarados. Great.
  • Earthquake - I used to have Rock Slide here, but it was a filler, and SDCroak was a threat for my team. Thanks to Earthquake and little predict, I can OHKO Toxicroak, revenge Jirachi, and hit Heatran harder, without the Defense and Special Defense drops of CC.
  • Close Combat - I think this is the best STAB move in the game. 120 BP, doesn't cripple Atk or Speed (are you listening, Superpower and V-Create?), great typing. I simply love it. I abuse Close Combat for things like SD Terrakion, Haxorus, [blah blah blah] and Heatran.
  • X-Scissor - Second filler, great to OHKO Celebi and damage Slowbro, one of the primary switch-ins to block Terrakion. Nothing to say about it, I don't reall
    y use it often.

Starmie @
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
  • Rapid Spin - The main selling point of this Starmie set. Since Gyarados and Rotom-H hate Stealth Rocks, Starmie is here to remove them. It has little to fear from spinblockers, since Jellicent must be at full health to avoid the 2HKO from Starmie's moves, and there aren't many other bulky Ghosts around. Dusclops hates the burn and has no reliable recovery. That's why Starmie is the best offensive spinner in the history.
  • Hydro Pump - I used Scald on this slot, but the raw power that Hydro Pump has is AMAZING. It 2HKOes TTar and Scizor, Gengar is scared by it, against Rain teams is so powerful that it's not even funny. Too bad I have only 8 PPs. Maybe I"ll put Surf on this. I'll test...
  • Thunderbolt - This is why Gyarados runs when he sees a Starmie. I can do serious damage to every bulky Water existent, doing 40/45% to Jellicent, a surefire KO if it's under 90% and comes on Stealth Rock. Great for Tornadus (Thanks godly speed) and Skarmory.
  • Recover - This is another selling point for the spinning work of Starmie. Being the only Rapin Spinner with Recover not weak to SR (so go away Cryogonal) and causing a lot of switches, I can find time whenever I want to Recover my lost health. I can stall mad Skarmorys that continue to BB me until they die or Roost, and then KO with TBolt. I can come on Forretress, no matter what he put down, and Recover on the switch or Rapid Spinning in his face.

Jirachi @
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 224 SDef / 32 Spd
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
  • Stealth Rock - A must on every competitive team not called Dragon Spam or Hyper Offense (but they like them too). It gives me the ability to trasform some 3HKOs into 2HKOs, breaks Sturdy and Sash and is free damage.
  • Iron Head - MAY GOD HAVE MERCY OF US - part 1: this is one of the main reasons why Jirachi checks Reuniclus even doing pitiful damage. No matter how much powerful the enemy is, if you can flinch it-you can kill it. It's infamous.
  • Thunder Wave - MAY GOD HAVE MERCY OF US - part 2: this move couples perfectly with Iron Head, creating the damn ParaFlinch combo that Jirachi abuses since DPPt. TWave is great to help Gyara's setup too and to let Breloom outspeed things like Offensive Heatran or weakened Tornadus.
  • Wish - With Jirachi I can pass 202 HP Wishes, that is a great amount of HP, guaranteeing a free heal for my SR weak Pokémon. Thanks to Iron Head and Serene Grace, Jirachi can easily heal himself simply by flinching his enemy.

248MS.png
Tyranitar:
  • Choice Band - Gyarados can come on anything bar Stone Edge and use him to setup. Terrakion can revenge and Breloom OHKO if needed.
  • Choice Scarf - Same as CB, but gives less problems since it has less power. I can use Jirachi too if locked into Superpower.
  • Dragon Dance - Terrakion revenge kills, can enter only on non-Volt Switching Rotom and Starmie, if not weakened.
Ani479WMS.png
Rotom-W:
  • Choice Scarf / Specs - Breloom can take them and OHKO with Seed Bomb. If Scarf Jirachi can take Volt Switch too, but Breloom will usually be the best choice.
  • Support - Breloom with the Toxic Orb activated is the best counter for him. I gain a free Spore/Bulk Up turn.
212MS.png
Scizor:
  • Choice Band - Gyarados is a great counter, Rotom-H resists everything and OHKOes with Overheat. If Breloom has used Bulk Up I can take hits and use Drain Punch+Poison Heal
  • Swords Dance - Rotom-H and Gyarados can destroy it.
  • Bulky Swords Dance - See Swords Dance.
Ani149MS.png
Dragonite:
  • Choice Band - The only way to counter a CBDragon is prediction. Outrage=Jirachi, pretty much anything else=Gyarados
  • Dragon Dance - I usually enter on the DD with Rotom-H and OHKO with HP Ice. Same does Terrakion with SE.
  • Mixed - Easier to deal with since it does not boost. Gyarados can take almost anything (I have to be careful because of Draco Meteor though).
  • Parashuffler - Breloom can Spore it, after the scale break I OHKO it with HP Ice.
  • Rain Abuse - Jirachi takes it since it resists Hurricane and doesn't take a lot of damage from Surf. Iron Head+TWave FTW.
Ani186MS.png
Politoed:
  • Choice Specs / Scarf - Breloom is my main counter, Rotom-H can revenge kill.
  • 3 Attacks - Breloom; Rotom comes on anything bar Water attacks.
Ani485MS.png
Heatran:
  • Standard - Starmie or Gyarados, it depends.
Ani385MS.png
Jirachi:
  • Substitute + Calm Mind / Wish + Calm Mind - SubCM bit difficult to deal with, but if I manage to break the Sub I Trick him with Rotom-H. I have to use Terrakion though. :x
  • Expert Belt - Never seen o_o anyway I can OHKO with Overheat with Rotom-H that can easily come, since it has nothing to fear from Achi.
  • Choice Scarf - Rotom-H and Gyarados laugh at him, but I have to be careful because of random TWaves.
Ani381MS.png
Latios:
  • Life Orb / Expert Belt - I can check it with Jirachi, since it cannot be 2HKO'd by HP Fire and after the TWave, it's over for the Eon.
  • Choice Scarf / Specs - Jirachi is my safer again, but I have to predict carefully. God, I hate dragons.
  • Calm Mind - Trick, TWave+Flinchspam, revenge with Terrakion.
Ani579MS.png
Reuniclus:
  • Calm Mind - Jirachi can easily absorb anything and begin his inferno of flinches.
  • Offensive Trick Room - Jirachi again, but this time I don't have to fear a +6 Focus Blast since it doesn't exist.
Ani612MS.png
Haxorus:
  • Choice Scarf / Choice Band - HAHAHAHAHAH you are funny. Gyarados can check it and Terrakion revenge it, but this thing is FUCKING BROKEN.
  • Dragon Dance - Same as Choiced sets, but if I predict carefully I can Spore/Trick him while he dances.
  • Double Dance - DD ---> Terrakion switches ---> Close Combat. He can only attack me since if he dances again he dies.
Ani038MS.png
Ninetales:
  • Nasty Plot - Gyarados, Rotom-H are good counters.
  • Choice Specs - Rotom-H usually can take anything, Terrakion obliterates him if locked on a Fire move.
  • Special Attacker - Same as other sets.
Ani534MS.png
Conkeldurr:
  • Bulk Up - Taunt+DD with Gyarados. Spore with Breloom, Trick with Rotom-H.
  • Flame Orb + 3 Attacks - Same, but without the Taunt and Spore part.
Ani251MS.png
Celebi:
  • Nasty Plot Sweeper - Rotom-H OHKOes and resists EVERYTHING. Terrakion can revenge kill if needed (usually not).
  • Tinkerbell - Nothing to fear from this set, only a random TWave can do something bad to me.
  • Choice Specs / Choice Scarf - Rotom-H+Jirachi.
Ani639MS.png
Terrakion:
  • Double Dance - He can setup only on Rotom-H, but is difficult since I usually Volt Switch in early game, and he would risk a lot.
  • Choice Scarf / Choice Band - CB is almost incounterable if you don't have a Cresselia or a lucky Gliscor. CS is easy since it doesn't have so much firepower.
  • Substitute + Swords Dance - Encountered once. It doesn't have the time to setup, just like the first set. If he manages to set his Sub I could have some problems.
Ani130MS.png
Gyarados:
  • Offensive / Bulky Dragon Dance - Rotom-H, Terrakion. Easy to deal with.
  • Choice Band / Choice Scarf - I usually go with Breloom since Ice Fang has low BP and isn't so much of a deal. SR destroys his life.
Ani094MS.png
Gengar:
  • Substitute + Disable / Pain Split - Jirachi. Sub on the switch, I break with Iron Head, disables, I change on Rotom-H and Volt Switch his next Sub. Repeat until he dies.
Ani121MS.png
Starmie:
  • Life Orb - Revenge with Rotom-H if in rain, Jirachi too otherwise.
  • Rapid Spin - Jirachi can continue to SR while hitting it, Rotom or Terrakion revenge. Breloom setups on him if he has the set with TBolt, Gyarados if he has Ice Beam.
  • Choice Specs - Usually Breloom+Jirachi.
Ani645MS.png
Landorus:
  • Rock Polish / Swords Dance - Blocked by Breloom forever, no matter which the set will be.
  • Choice Scarf - Blocked by Breloom forever, no matter which the set will be.
  • Substitute + 3 Attacks - Blocked by Breloom forever, no matter which the set will be.
Ani392MS.png
Infernape:
  • Mixed Attacker - Gyarados is my best friend. My scarfers can revenge it if weakened enough.
  • Nasty Plot / Swords Dance Booster - Gyarados, Gyarados, Gyarados.
  • Choice Band - Gyarados laughs, but I have to be careful because of SE.
Ani637MS.png
Volcarona:
  • Offensive Quiver Dance - Terrakion uses ROCK SLIDE BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO FUCKING MISS AGAIN AND BE OHKOED BY A CRITTED HP GROUND.
  • Bulky Quiver Dance - Terrakion, Gyarados.
  • Chesto Rest - Gyarados has more time to setup. Thanks, bro!
  • Substitute - No coverage= Hi Terrakion and Gyarados.
Ani462MS.png
Magnezone:
  • Substitute - Breloom, Rotom-H. I cannot really "counter" him since it blocks my Jirachi.
  • Choice Scarf / Choice Specs - Setup field for Gyara (HP Fire) or Breloom (TBolt)?
Ani196MS.png
Espeon:
  • Calm Mind - Low defense my dear, low defense. It dies on anything in the team, so don't worry.
  • Bulky Sun Attacker / Passer - Jirachi can check him / I have to Trick him or I will die since it's immune to Taunt.
Ani373MS.png
Salamence:
  • Dragon Dance - Terrakion+Rotom-H
  • Mixed - After the -2 from DMeteor, even Gyarados.
  • Defensive - lol. Well, Gyarados can Taunt and the scarfers OHKO.
  • Choice Scarf / Choice Band - Like every other Choicer, the key is prediction. Usually my first switch is Gyarados though, then if needed Jirachi --> Wish ---> Health for Gyara. Repeat until he has -546045 Atk.
Ani635MS.png
Hydreigon:
  • Offensive - Gyarados can take anything if needed, but I usually play mindgame to let him use DMeteor on Achi.
  • Choice Specs / Choice Scarf - Jirachi (I have to be careful because of Fire Blast though)
  • Substitute - Break the sub with Achi or anything on the team not called Starmie and then revenge with Kion since it doesn't fear 2HKO from anything bar Focus Blast, that is unreliable.
Ani286MS.png
Breloom:
  • Bulk Up - Gyarados, thanks God you exist.
  • Sub Seed - Breloom and Gyarados with Taunt.
  • Sub Punch - ^
Ani380MS.png
Latias:
  • Calm Mind - Jirachi takes it all the day. If I manage to TWave her, it's over. Trick with Rotom-H.
  • Offensive Tank - Jirachi, Jirachi.
  • Choice Specs - Jirachi does not fear anything bar HP Fire.
Ani454MS.png
Toxicroak:
  • Swords Dance - Gyarados is my main choice. Maybe I'll put Earthquake on Terrakion.
  • Bulk Up - I HATE IT. I always lose at least one Pokémon to him. Really difficult to play against.

  • Bulk Up - Same, but I have to be careful of too many BU.
Ani003MS.png
Venusaur:
  • Special Growth - Rotom-H have only to be careful of a +2 Sludge Bomb, but OHKOes with Overheat.
  • Mixed Growth - Rotom-H revenges all the day.
  • SubSeed - Rotom-H, Spore, Taunt.
Ani376MS.png
Metagross:
  • Stealth Rock - Starmie can Spin away, then Gyarados setup. Rotom-H is epic against it.
  • Choice Scarf / Choice Band - Gyarados, Rotom-H.
  • Agility - Rotom-H laughs like a boss.
Ani620MS.png
Mienshao:
  • All-Out Attacker - Gyarados and his lovely Intimidate.
  • Choice Scarf / Choice Band - See ^
Ani091MS.png
Cloyster:
  • Shell Smash - Jirachi takes everything even at +2 and cripples with TWave.
  • Utility - Volt Switch+random breeze is enough.
Ani473MS.png
Mamoswine:
  • Physical Attacker - If I don't come on SE I can counter it with Rotom-H. Same for Gyarados.
  • Focus Sash + Endeavor - If I break the Sash, I won. I can Trick it on SR and OHKO with Overheat.
Ani555MS.png
Darmanitan:
  • Choice Scarf / Choice Band - Gyarados is my best friend here. Anyway, I can revenge with Terrakion.
Ani641MS.png

  • Substitute + 3 Attacks - Jirachi is my main choice.
  • Offensive Calm Mind - Jirachi.
  • Focus Sash - Jirachis, Jirachis everywhere.
482.png
Azelf:
  • Dual Screens - Trick cripples. Too weak to take Volt Switch+XScissor, so he can only use a screen.
  • Lead - Same.
  • Nasty Plot - Well, I have Jirachi if he doesn't have a +2.
  • Choice Band - Gyarados cripples it with a -1 Atk.
184.png
Azumarill:
  • Choice Band - Gyarados sleeps on him all the day. Nothing to fear.
386-defense.png
Deoxys-D:
  • Fast Spiker - Taunt+DD, Trick. It depends.
51.png
Dugtrio:
  • Focus Sash - Well, everything I can do is break the Sash with SR and predict it in order to 2HKO with Iron Head. Everything else will 2HKO/OHKO it.
  • Choice Band - No Sash= No way to enter.
395.png

Wow. I'm pretty impressed. It's a very good team. The ONLY (and I mean only) thing that I can see going wrong is someone pulling out the Latios. You have only one resistance to Draco Meteor, and a good one at that. But when your Jirachi dies, your entire team is going to get wrecked, one by one. I would make sure to take care of Latios the first chance you get, or you're in for a world of pain.

Thanks, but this team is far from the perfection. For example, against BUCroak I'm in a world of terror D:

Hey there.

SD Toxicroak can cause this team major problems. Gyarados is the only thing on your team that has a chance against it, and it will take an insane amount of damage from a boosted Sucker Punch; since all you have to hit Toxicroak with is Bounce, Toxicroak can just switch out and destroy you later on. An easy way to fix this is to simply run Earthquake over Rock Slide on Terrakion. Rock Slide is essentially just a filler move anyway, so losing it isn't too big of a deal. Earthquake can easily destroy Toxicroak, and provides great coverage alongside Stone Edge. Earthquake can also help with your SubCM Jirachi problem, as it hits it harder and doesn't make you lose Special Defense.

Also, definitely run Hydro Pump on Starmie over Scald. Hydro Pump hits much harder than Scald, and means that Starmie won't have to rely on a 30% burn chance to stop Scizor. Hydro Pump can also 2HKO Tyranitar, and can do much more damage in general, making Starmie much more of a threat.

Solid team. Hope I helped, and good luck!

I would suggest hydro pump or ice beam over scald since one can do more damage and the other forming boltbeam coverage on starmie. Other than that, everything is good.

Terrakion rock polish LO raping this team but he is very nice !!
GG man.
Hydropump on starmie please and EQ terrakion too!

Well, everyone said to Hydro Pump > Scald on Mie, and i tried it. Now, with a bit of prediction, I can remove safely TTar and Scizor without losing Starmie. EQ on ScarfKion helped me a lot against SDCroak too.
