Discussion: Electivire

I find it rather weak, as an opponent that is. Scizor OHKO's with X-scizor after a swordsdance, while he only has to fear a potential fire-punch. But I quick-attack it that to put it in life-orb range. Also gastrodon fully counters any set, he doesn't even have to fear HP-grass, he can survive (though crippled) and mirror-coat/EQ for the KO.

I think to many people use its physical sweeper set too much, but the mixed sweeper i dont care what people think that can do some damage.

Its an overrated pokemon, especially since I found out it cannot 2HKO Donphan with Ice Punch... A mixed set is the way to go, but in my opinion there are others that do his job better. If he didn't have Motor Drive I'm sure he;d have a lot less support.

Vire is one of my favs, but I admit that it doesn't work like other sweepers, like many have said it's hard to get Motor Drive in, and almost impossible to get in again, as well as besides SE hits it doesn't pack a lot of power, especially for stuff like Hippowdon, Swampert, and Scarfers.

IMO, I think that the issue with Electivire is that for the trouble you need to go through to switch it in, and the difficulty in switching it in more than once, it simply lacks the extreme power one would expect from such a (relatively) hard-to-use Pokemon.

Great attacking stat with poor BP on its physical moves just doesn't cut it...Weavile gets away with it for having that speed advantage already, and arguably better moves in Pursuit, Ice Shard...

Electivire just doesn't seem worth the trouble, as LO shortens its already insufficient staying power. It's a little too bulky to be amazingly strong, but not bulky enough to be able to be used as a bulky-ish sweeper or anything.

You might as well give it Choice Band or Scarf to let it do things without an electric boost.

Or just use something *good*.

The mixed Electivire set is ok though.

I thought Electivire was overhyped, even during the time when it was on virtually every team. With access to Meditate it's not bad actually, although it still has trouble with physical walls. I'd say it was best used nowadays as a Baton Pass recipient for that surprise element. Base 123 att is good, but without a stat boost it can't sweep everything.

If you get the motor drive going against a team that isn't prepared for one he cant tear shit up, but as stated many times he is easily walled by a number of physical walls and pseudo walls. Swampert, cresselia, dusknoir and bronzong all come to mind.

Without the speed boost he seems to always die to an EQ from something faster, although base 95 (iirc) isn't bad at all.

Probably belongs in BL based on how much he gets used nowadays.

Vire is one of those Pokemon that looks perfect on paper, but out in the battlefield it turns out to be shitty. Kinda like Rhyperior in a way.

Vire would be a bit better if it still had 105 base speed and so would magmortar those speed hits they took when evolving really hurt them IMO

Mixvire (CC/Tbolt/Hp Grass/ FF) is pretty much the only solid vire set that can be even a hint of a threat with a motor drive boost. Standard vire= pathetic to the point it is FUBAR(fucked up beyond all recognition)

at least mixvire can hit Swampert, Hippowdon, Donphan, Forretress, Steelix, etc. Those are basically the things that normally wall the shit out of vire...

I agree with Slice. Special Mixed Electivire is the only set I would consider using.

Electivire would be so much better if its attack stats were switched, or if it at least had a slightly higher base SpAtk. Base 95 isn't bad, but Electivire could've been so much better with say, base 110 or 115 SpAtk and base 100 Atk.

I use Electivire as my recipient of Bulk-ups from Floetzal. I often am able to get +2 Atk/Def and +1 Spd due to Motor Drive and sweep teams. I have done this numerous times in my team and so far it has only been stopped by Wobbeffet. Frankly, this is the ideal strategy for Vire. (However, almost any sweeper with 2 Bulk-ups can potentially sweep, which still raises the question of Electivire's overall usefulness).

personally, I like electivire(mainly cause of looks)
for me, it comes in handy as a revenge killer cause I have it hold choice scarf sometimes(can suprise alot of people)

I'd rather switch a Garchomp into a TBolt. Especially on Hail so if they wreck hail with SS it just gives Chomp Sand Veil making him even more deadly.

I already use Gligar on my hail team (sometimes) just for what you said, SS ruining hail. Ive been switching between Dugtrio and Electivire for my usual TBolt takers. Both work well.

Im trying to avoid using Garchomp..otherwise i might never stop ^_^
