Dissapointment in Wii

Is it just me or is everyone dissapointed in the Wii, i mean i can probably name only 5 good games for it and one of them is a pack-in with the system, I mean is Nintendo not releasing good games because they dont need to since they are making people pay like 85$(i think) for that Wii Fit that i heard doesnt even work.

It's like the Gamecube in that it blew its load early.

However, I can't say I'm disappointed. I've had way more fun with just Brawl and Mario Kart than I've had with pretty much any other system outside the Gamecube.

i have brawl and im not such a big fan but seriously only 2? i mean in about one month-JUST ONE MONTH i have had fun with 3 different games for the 360 which are L4D GoW2 and PURE just to name a few and I haven't even played my Wii in like about 6 months, some on now you have to agree that the Wii is not consistent with game releases

Agreeing with Surgo pretty much completely.

However, games like No More Heroes and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn have also enriched my Wii experience. No More Heroes was a real treat for a Japanophile like me. I'm also looking forward to Mad World.

Edit: OP's second post proves he's just trying to troll. Yawn.

Pretty much, the problem is the same as the Gamecube's: 3rd party games. Nintendo's only one company, and there's only so much that they can do. I mean, they've given us a pretty good load already: Legend of Zelda: TP, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Metroid Prime 3, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Mario Kart and Super Paper Mario are all already out, among others. However, now Nintendo is in the development phase for the next batch, which will of course take a while. Until they can get them out, we have to rely on 3rd party games. The problem is, the 3rd parties mostly like to just dump bad games on the Wii, and there aren't too many good ones that make it. Thus, the Wii being where it is.

Of course, not all the blame can go to the 3rd parties; Nintendo really does have to tell them to stop putting whatever stupid games they can think of onto the Wii. However, it is still the 3rd parties that actually have to make such games and put them on the Wii, and help to support it, while Nintendo's in between releases to their major series, like they are now.

People need to stop looking at the wii in such a bad way. Its not designed for twenty year old virgins and fifteen year olds that enjoy blowing the shit out of whatever is on the screen.

Wii is intended to please children while still giving adults a thrill when playing with their kids. This is a much different concept than pleasing adults and teens, but also allowing kids to have fun.

Personally, I like almost all of my wii games. Brawl, mario kart, corruption, and ultimate alliance are really fun and still have a hint of violence. I think its sad that most people need to have a game that involves shooting or stabbing someone and watching blood spurt from yourself when someone shoots you. Just plain sad.

Sorry if i didnt put it that way but what Naxte is saying is almost exactly what I mean, however it is really disappointing that I get treated like this after having to drive 2 hours across states to get this console on launch day and now i probably have at most 10 games for it after two years

Im not asking for violent games but i just want quality games like the ones you just mentioned, and I have ultimate alliance and i really dont think its great at all i think it gets a mediocre at most.

Here's a thought then: Make a "goodbye smogon im quitting" thread, sell your Wii on Ebay, log off your computer, go meet the buyer and complete the transaction, buy some more 360 games, and stop bitching.

Gears of War 2 is play it and then never pick it up again (not to mention it's the same damn shooter that I've been playing since 1999, only worse). Same goes for PURE, though it's actually a more original concept which is nice. Left 4 Dead is a PC game for me, and is the only one in those three listed that really deserves to stand next to a game like Brawl or Mario Kart in its combined fun-value, friend-value, and replayability-value (the last two kinda go hand-in-hand).

There's significantly more to consider than quantity. Like, uh, quality.

I have a 360 as well as a Wii. What gets played on my 360 the most? Soul Calibur 4, ST HDR, and Viva Pinata. Not much else ever goes in. It's not like console shooters have ever improved on Unreal Tournament (a genre that is supposedly the 360's greatest strength). And while I certainly enjoy the three of those games, and get great use out of them (especially SC4, my friends and especially my girlfriend just seem to eat that one up), I don't get the same enjoyment out of them as I do with Brawl and Mario Kart. Which, again, all my friends love and we have a blast playing together.

I'd like to make a point here about the shooter genre as a whole...it really peaked with Unreal Tournament and Counter-Strike, IMO (I much prefer the former, though I can appreciate the strength of the latter). Outside of a few rare gems, like Call of Duty 4, the genre as a whole has been rather uninspiring because it refuses to reach Unreal Tournament level greatness. Now this is certainly not easy, because Unreal Tournament is one of the greatest video games ever created, but in a genre as essentially static as shooters the pain is far more keenly felt than it would be in, say, platformers. (As an aside, I know that there will never be an improvement on Unreal Tournament -- I'm looking for a lateral compliment. There are a couple gems out there.)

What is there to be dissapointed in? Almost all of their top franchises have at least one title and that's exactly what I expect from my Nintendo console. The only notable difference between the Wii and the Gamecube is that I can also use the Wii to amuse my family when I have to (they can't get enough of Wii Sports and Wii Fit).

I also have to give credit to the Virtual Console which has provided me with hours upon hours of entertainment.

Having said all that, I have to be honest and admit that prior to purchasing Sonic Unleashed last week, the last Wii game I bought was Brawl back in June. I still play my Wii every day despite that, but there does seem to have been a slight game drought over the past few months (for me at least).

Im going to disregard the whole quit thing, and i will not sell my Wii for 2 reasons:1.I bought it on launch day and it has sentimental value. 2.It has A LOT of potential if developers make good games especially with the new attachment for the motion plus thing(I think thats what its called)- oh btw Lee is the Sonic game any good for the Wii? since i heard it was worst for the 360 I have been trying to convince my brother to buy it on they Wii since for me too it will probaly be the first game i have bought since Brawl

I still have fun with my Wii, but unfortunately i don't look forward for any game, the hype was SSBB and after that i didn't felt interested, sure there are many quality titles but i expected more. However, if you buy a Nintendo console you should know what's going to happen and what kind of games it will get.

Still, SSBB has power count 300 hours! which is quite a lot considering i don't even play that much... i wonder why xD, Metroid Prime 3 was another game i played till 100% which took me other 25 hours. I think these two games have been my "most played" games on wii.

I like the Virtual console, i play it very often, also Mega Man 9 on wii ware, i still play it and beat it everytime i can on one seat (the way it was designed).

I'm not much of a gamer anymore, but I still use my Wii every so often. These days I only ever buy the "must-buys", or games I myself consider "must-buys" if you get what I mean (eg. Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy etc).

From a real gamer’s point of view, I'd say the Wii would be somewhat of a disappointment in a sense. If you're really just into spending almost all of your free time playing a variety of different games that are good, in a more competitive sense at least, the Wii might not be the console for you. Now, I personally hate games like Grand Theft Auto, racing games other than Mario Kart (Or other fun karting games), other hyped up "hardcore" games such as Gears of War etc. But most gamers see those as the "cool" games to play, and the real gaming fan base would most likely consist of people who bash those games at every free second they have. The Wii lacks games like this, so people who are in this mindset will be disappointed.

Unless you can fall into the competitive area of games like Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros. (there are still few like these on the Wii for that matter though) you're not going to have the kind of fun you prefer. While they can be as hardcore and as difficult as other mainstream console games, people still see them as childish and think they're not having as good a time playing them.
With all that said, there is a lack of good games on the Wii. However, I was blown away by Super Mario Galaxy. While it was relatively easy for the most part, it was jus at magical experience to play through. Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl are other games I've had a blast of a time playing, and there are few others such as Wario Ware (for the most part), Wii Sports, Fifa 08 and even Pokémon Battle Revolution. I'm also currently loving Animal Crossing: Let's Go to The City, while it's not much different from its previous versions, I'm still enjoying it.

I've often compared the Wii to the Gamecube in terms gaming libraries, so I'll show a little of what I mean right now by taking a look at some of the best games on the latest Nintendo home consoles:

Mario Sunshine vs. Mario Galaxy

For me, Galaxy wins hands down. This is the generic Mario plat former every Nintendo console will have; I preferred the Wii version this time.

Mario Kart: Double Dash! Vs. Mario Kart Wii

Both good fun, but I really preferred Mario Kart Wii by a long distance.

Zelda Wind Waker vs. Zelda Twilight Princess

Now, I’m not a fan of Zelda, but it’s obviously one of Nintendo’s main franchises. I have played both, and I did actually prefer Twilight Princess, but both games have been regarded as good so I’ll let you decide if it’s an improvement (though I’m assuming Link is yet to experience his real Wii adventure as Twilight Princess was basically a ported Gamecube game that got more recognition on the Wii).

Metroid Prime 1 & 2 vs. Metroid Prime 3

I haven’t played 3, but I wasn’t a fan of the others since I don’t like first person shooters. The games are generally regarded as good as score high, so I’m assuming they’re all pretty much as good as each other.

Super Smash Bros. Melee vs. Super Smash Bros. Brawl

I definitely spent more time playing Melee on the Gamecube, but that’s probably because back then I was more into gaming, and me and my friends were still in high school so had more time to waste playing video games. I think they’re about equal.

Animal Crossing vs. Animal Crossing: Let’s Go to the City

Not dissimilar, but the Wii version is obviously better due to greater features.

Well, I’d say that has covered Nintendo’s “main” franchises that appear on home consoles: Mario, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Zelda, Metroid, and Animal Crossing. I know there are more, but I’ll stop there just now. Out of everything I listed, I honestly believe the Wii versions are just as good, if not better than any of the same franchise on the Gamecube. From this, I have to determine that the problem is not that Nintendo have been making their own games worse than they used to. The problem is most likely other companies making games on Wii that simply aren’t good enough. I find it difficult to name anything good on Wii isn’t a Nintendo only game.

On Gamecube, we had the likes of Paper Mario (which is now on Wii, but IMO not as good), Viewtiful Joe (which is a masterclass of a game that hasn’t been revisited on Wii yet), Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (which I believe is in the works), F-Zero (which is supposedly in the works), Starfox (which is probably in the works), Pikmin (which is being made on Wii), Phantasy Star Online and Resident Evil 4 etc.

So, for me, almost everything I loved about the Gamecube is either on or likely to be on the Wii rather soon (bar the next Resident Evil). So, I don’t know what more to expect. We had extra things like Wii Sports and Wii Fit, but we just need other companies to start taking the Wii more seriously and make higher quality games.

[/end rant]

Pretty much, the problem is the same as the Gamecube's: 3rd party games.

And yet, the problem with the other consoles: 1st party games. And the fact they have few exclusives, so PS3/360 and even PC to some extent are mostly interchangable. Let's not start one of these arguments again...

Plus, don't forget your Wii can all but replace your Gamecube if you had one of those. Saves shelf space.

Oh jesus. If you're going to make a thread that has so much potential to go wrong like this at least post something substantial. The first post is abysmal.
