So with the first XY RU suspect test coming to a close I decided that I would post the team that I used to get reqs with. For the most part I am only posting this team due to the fact that it's different from the standard Froslass HO/Sticky Web teams that have been spammed by everyone and actually ended up doing just as well if not better than them in most cases. The team started out being based around Crustle and Mighteyena and slowly turned into the somewhat almost decent team that you see in front of you today. I wouldn't suggest for anyone to use this team in any important matches or for anything that means something as it's definitely gimmicky and has a more difficult time succeeding once the surprise factor is gone lol.
GLANCIN AT THE TEAM
snackwrap (Crustle) @ Mental Herb
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Rock Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Ah the legend known as Hp Ice Crustle, the true Gligar killer... Pretty sure Molk was the first person to innovate this and it did a great job of giving me early game momentum while almost always giving me a great lead matchup due to Froslass and Shuckle being the two most common leads. Crustle just has enough speed to outrun min speed Gligar and with max special attack can actually 2HKO and manage to keep hazards up, it also did very well vs Froslass due to mental herb and most people spiking turn one fearing a strong Rock Blast, which allowed me at least two hazards. Nicknamed snackwrap because once it starts droppin hazards on the field the game is basically over :]
ashwin shamalamadingdong (Mightyena) @ Life Orb
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Crunch
- Sucker Punch
- Play Rough
- Fire Fang
Mighteyena aka the indian lord himself Shakeitup was the Pokemon the team was built around. With hazard support and Moxie it actually has the potential to sweep many unprepared teams and managed to do so quite a few times. Tbh it's really weak before a boost but if it was faster than Hitmonlee it probably would have outright swept offensive teams every game but unfortunately it's slow as dicks, once it does grab a Moxie boost however it actually became a threat with Crunch/Sucker Punch hitting really hard and Play Rough + Fire Fang providing decent coverage. Overall a fairly decent and underrated mon that cleaned up games efficiently, could definitely use some more usage.
SOMALIA (Jellicent) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SAtk / 228 Spd / 28 HP
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Water Spout
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball
- Scald
Choice Scarf Jellicent has alot of potential in XY RU and often outright swept any team that had nothing faster than 350 speed and no water resists. In all seriousness though Jellicent was okay at revenge killing for the team but was kinda weak when not clicking Water Spout. Vs Sticky Web i pretty much sacked Jellicent to Hitmonlee every game just to keep hazards on the field but overall Jellicant was an important member of the team giving me a way to check some annoying theats such as SD Cobalion and Delphox. The speed ev's let it hit 351 speed, enough to outrun base 110's, unfortunately it falls two points short of outspeeding base 115's when fully invested :[. I actually ran Giga Drain > Energy Ball throughout the time i laddered but did you really think i was going to have a Jellicent nicknamed SOMALIA without it?? exactly. Next time you see one of these on the ladder you best ask yourself what you got for a well played Scarf Jellicent.
based af harris (Rotom-Frost) @ Wide Lens
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunder
- Blizzard
- Will-O-Wisp
- Volt Switch
This slot originally belonged to SubSalacCM Delphox, but unfortunately it left the team extremely weak to the strong Aqua Jet Alomomola, so Wide Lens Rotom-F was added. This is a truely based set with both Thunder and Blizzard almost never missing, I clicked Will-O-Wisp like 5 times and missed 4 so as you can see it is as reliable as ever and Volt Switch was nice for momentum and for when i wasn't feeling real enough to risk a miss. Rotom-F also helped alot vs Braviary in Sticky Web which rose alot in usage as the suspect test went on. Rotom-F was also just one of the main win conditions vs Sticky Web in general due to being immune and helped the team out alot like a true team player should. Shoutout to hsa based af.
free passion (Drapion) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 192 Spd / 252 Atk / 64 HP
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- Poison Jab
Drapion is actually one of the most important members of the team, serving a few crucial roles. It was added to help weaken Mighteyena's common switch ins with Knock Off and is also the main win condition vs stall, it also serves as a nice tspikes absorber. I went with enough speed to outrun adamant Hitmonlee due to it being a huge threat to almost every team and being really fast wasn't a big deal as I said before it was mainly added for doing work vs stall with hazards up and also stop Aromatisse from being really gay to the rest of team. At +2 with an adamant nature Drapion actually hits kinda hard and also just completely wrecked Trick Room teams that got more common as the suspect test went on. Nicknamed free passion because she was unjustly banned.. RIP.
molk is brianna (Kangaskhan) (F) @ Silk Scarf
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 252 Atk / 232 Spd / 24 HP
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Double-Edge
- Earthquake
- Sucker Punch
A BW2 RU favourite of mine and a Pokemon who is equally as good this gen. Kangaskhan was often the thing stopping me from just getting swept by basically every random sweeper in the tier. As you can see the team has amazing Sharpedo checks with Kangaskhan being able to live one hit and dual Sucker Punch priority. Kangaskhan was also extremely good vs Froslass HO and Sticky Web due to a nice combination of priority, bulk and power. Once Drapion/Mighteyena have gotten Doublade out of the way Kangaskhan just proceeds to rape the most common archetype teams in the RU tier atm. Dropped the speed to outrun adamant Hitmonlee as most other things that Kanga would speed tie with such as adamant Zangoose are wrecked by Fake Out and commonly paired with Web anyway. Nickname is to finally expose the fact that Molk is actually a girl irl, don't be fooled people ask her for pics :].
So yeah that's the team, I guess you can suggest some changes but the team was never that serious to begin with and kinda just did well by accident lol. As I said before, wouldn't recommend using this in a serious game but was generally pretty fun to ladder with and broke up the monotonous task of using the same two playstyles over and over again.
