[SET]
Dondozo @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Fairy / Dragon
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Liquidation / Waterfall
- Curse / Body Press
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
[SET COMMENTS]
Dondozo is a sturdy physical wall on defensive teams, with its nigh unbreakable Defense combined with Unaware letting it wall an array of terrifying threats such as Sneasler, Mega Swampert, and Urshifu-R. However, passivity and reliance on Rest for recovery limits its usefulness outside of incredibly defensive teams. Liquidation is Dondozo's primary STAB move of choice for its slightly higher Base Power being more capable of 2HKOing targets such as Heatran and Landorus-T after Stealth Rock, while Waterfall is appreciated for its higher PP. Curse aids Dondozo in taking even less damage from physical attackers while potentially turning it into a late-game win conditoin, while Body Press is an option to hit Water-resistant Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Urshifu-R, and Ogerpon-W. Rest is Dondozo's only option for recovery, while Sleep Talk allows Dondozo to damage Pokemon while asleep, preventing it from being completely passive. Heavy-Duty Boots are the preferred item, ensuring Dondozo avoids damage from entry hazards and minimizing its need to use Rest. Leftovers are an alternative on teams with fantastic entry hazard removal to grant it passive longevity. Tera Fairy is the ideal Tera Type to resist Fighting-type attacks such as Close Combat from Zamazenta and Mega Medicham, as well as Dark-type attacks such as Mega Gyarados and Hisuian Samurott's Dark-type STAB moves. Dondozo fits best on fat balance or stall teams that appreciate its unparalleled ability to check physical threats. Special walls such as Ting-Lu, Clodsire, Gliscor, and Blissey check special attackers that Dondozo struggles with, such as Volcarona, Zapdos, and Rotom-W; the aforementioned Ground-types also provide an immunity to Volt Switch from Zapdos and Rotom-W, which Dondozo would otherwise grant free pivoting opportunities to. Solid Knock Off absorbers such as Gliscor and Tornadus-T pair well with Dondozo, as it dislikes absorbing a Knock Off, which would open up to it taking entry hazard damage. However, if Dondozo opts to use Leftovers, the aforementioned absorbers act as Defoggers to alleviate entry hazard pressure. Electric Terrain offense teams trouble Dondozo by cutting off its recovery, so teammates such as Toxapex and Gliscor aid it against common threats on such teams, including Iron Valiant and Sneasler. On stall teams, Wish passers such as Alomomola and Clefable give Dondozo recovery, allowing it to switch into such attackers and regain its lost HP.
