Don't forfeit matches. {warstory}

Well, I've decided to take a second crack at the whole "warstory" thing. hoping it's actually interesting this time.

My team:
Roserade
Swampert
Tyranitar
Sandslash
Gengar
Weavile

leftovers, sandstorm (including "the sandstorm rages"), poison, and moves that failed because there was no target, will be omitted.

the pokemon that had leftovers were:
My Pokemon:
Sandslash, Swampert
His Pokemon:
Spiritomb

battle log will be in bold, my moves in blue, his in red.
commentary will be color-coded, but in non-bold.

My "hindsight insights" will be in normal text.

Rules: Ladder Match, Sleep Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Evasion Clause, Species Clause, Strict Damage Clause

Ben. sent out Moobies (lvl 100 Machamp ?).
Lightning Storm sent out Roserade (lvl 100 Roserade ?).

Alright, a Machamp. I figure I should just go right out and have Roserade serve it's purpose: Set up toxic spikes. My focus sash will protect me from a OHKO.

Roserade used Toxic Spikes.
Spikes were scattered everywhere!

Toxic Spikes were scattered around the foe's team!
Moobies used Substitute.
Moobies lost 25% of its health.
Moobies made a substitute!

Subchamp then? Well, I'm glad I didn't use sleep powder (In Hindsight, I realize that Sleep Powder would have been a better move.). Figuring I may as well get rid of the sub before I get KOed, I use grass knot.

Omega_Divine has entered the room.
Roserade used Grass Knot.
The substitute took damage for Moobies!
Moobies's substitute faded!
Moobies used Dynamicpunch.
It's not very effective...

Roserade lost 43% of its health.
Roserade became confused!

Well, I'm confused. Might as well continue trying to whittle it down before the impending Knock-Out.

Roserade is confused!
Roserade used Grass Knot.

Moobies lost 44% of its health.
Moobies used Dynamicpunch.
It's not very effective...

Roserade lost 48% of its health.

Man, two hits with Dynamic Punch in a row. Not too surprising, I guess. (Orite. No Guard. Thanks ChouToshio!)
same strategy: whittle.

Roserade is confused!
It hurt itself in its confusion!
Roserade lost 9% of its health.
Lightning Storm's Roserade fainted.

6-5 Ben

And there's that KO. Decide to send in Gengar to render the Dynamic Punch useless, and hopefully KO with Shadow Ball.

Lightning Storm: lol
Lightning Storm switched in Gengar (lvl 100 Gengar ?).
Gengar used Shadow Ball.

Moobies lost 31% of its health.
Ben.'s Moobies fainted.

Gengar lost 10% of its health.
5-5 Tie

Well, that worked. Now I ready myself for what the opponent could bring in next.

Ben. switched in Spiritomb (lvl 100 Spiritomb ?).
Spiritomb is exerting its pressure!
Spiritomb was poisoned!
Spiritomb was poisoned by the Toxic Spikes!

Gengar used Shadow Ball.
Spiritomb lost 62% of its health.
Gengar lost 10% of its health.
Spiritomb used Hypnosis.
Gengar fell asleep!

Go go toxic spikes! Against a 40% HP poisoned Spiritomb, I feel I can afford to let myself wake up.

Gengar is fast asleep!
Spiritomb used Shadow Ball.
It's super effective!

Gengar lost 81% of its health.
Lightning Storm's Gengar fainted.

4-5 Ben

...

That was smart. Well, i'm obviously still learning. Forgot that Spiritomb carried shadow ball. I AM STUPID. I switch in Weavile to kill Spiritomb.

Lightning Storm switched in Weavile (lvl 100 Weavile ?).
Weavile is exerting its pressure!
Weavile used Ice Punch.

Spiritomb lost 25% of its health.
Ben.'s Spiritomb fainted.
4-4 Tie

I am actually running a variant off of the standard ice shard C Band Weavile. I run Ice Punch and a standard set of moves with C Scarf. so far it works pretty well. Night Slash could have worked too, but Ice Punch hits more pokemon SE.

Ben. switched in Haku (lvl 100 Gyarados ?).
Haku's intimidate cut Weavile's attack!

However, Gyarados is not one of those pokemon. I retreat to Swampert to hopefully be hit by a NVE waterfall or stone edge.

Lightning Storm switched in Swampert (lvl 100 Swampert ?).

Haku used Stone Edge.
It's not very effective...

Swampert lost 17% of its health.
Haku lost 10% of its health.

Good. However, I don't feel comfortable with gyarados, and, feeling I can't deal with it, I use roar.

Ben. switched in Roserade by any other name (lvl 100 Roserade ?).
Roserade by any other name absorbed the Toxic Spikes!

Swampert used Roar.
Ben. switched in Haku (lvl 100 Gyarados ?).
Haku's intimidate cut Swampert's attack!

>.> Obviously, he switches to a different pokemon, and I switch it back to Gyarados. wasted turn, except now I know he has Roserade, and he knows I have Roar. Lets try that again...

Haku used Waterfall.
Swampert lost 40% of its health.
Haku lost 10% of its health.
Swampert used Roar.
Ben. switched in Roserade by any other name (lvl 100 Roserade ?).

Ugh. I switch him to Roserade, but take 40% damage. Not good. At least i can use Ice Beam for a hopeful OHKO.

Roserade by any other name used Leaf Storm.
It's super effective!

Swampert lost 62% of its health.
Lightning Storm's Swampert fainted.

Roserade by any other name's special attack was harshly lowered.
4-3 Ben
Haha. Ya right. Argh. No matter what I do, he's always one step above me.We're either tied, or he has a one point lead. I switch to T-Tar, hoping he'll retreat so I can catch him with Pursuit.

Lightning Storm switched in Tyranitar (lvl 100 Tyranitar ?).
Tyranitar's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm!
A sandstorm brewed!
Tyranitar used Pursuit.

Roserade by any other name lost 100% of its health.
Ben.'s Roserade by any other name fainted.
3-3 Tie
Well, that just shows off T-Tar's MASSIVE power. Well, we're tied again, and as I am now stuck in Pursuit, I switch to Sandslash, who will benefit from Sandstorm with Sand veil.

Ben. switched in Countess (lvl 100 Gliscor ?).
Lightning Storm switched in Sandslash (lvl 100 Sandslash ?).
Countess used Earthquake.
Countess's attack missed!

Oh yeah, I LOVE sand veil. It's saved me tons of time, including now.

Countess used Ice Fang.
It's super effective!

Sandslash lost 20% of its health.
Sandslash was frozen solid!
Sandslash is frozen solid!

...

Oh well, most of time, freeze goes away after a turn or two, right?

Lightning Storm: hax

Countess used Earthquake.
Sandslash lost 24% of its health.
Sandslash is frozen solid!

Not this turn, maybe the next?

Countess used Earthquake.
Countess's attack missed!

Sandslash is frozen solid!

Third time's the charm?

Countess used Swords Dance.
Countess's attack was sharply raised.

Sandslash is frozen solid!

>.>
please?

Countess used Swords Dance.
Countess's attack was sharply raised.

Sandslash is frozen solid!

Nope. Sandslash is being BEAST at surviving though.

Lightning Storm: OMFG
Countess used Ice Fang.
Countess's attack missed!

Sandslash is frozen solid!

Five turns. It's gotta be just around the corner, right?

Countess used Ice Fang.
It's super effective!

Sandslash lost 64% of its health.
Sandslash is frozen solid!

Ow. 64% damage puts me a little closer to death then I'd like.

Countess used Ice Fang.
It's super effective!

Sandslash lost 36% of its health.
Lightning Storm's Sandslash fainted.
Lightning Storm: !!!!!!!!!!
3-2 Ben

I don't believe it. 7 straight turns of freeze. Absolutely ridiculous. Whatever though, I'm still only one behind. I send in Weavile, as Gliscor will get owned by ice punch.Lightning Storm switched in Weavile (lvl 100 Weavile ?).

Weavile is exerting its pressure!

Ben.: dude, shit like that happens, deal with it
Ben. switched in Haku (lvl 100 Gyarados ?).
Haku's intimidate cut Weavile's attack!

Weavile used Ice Punch.
Haku lost 35% of its health.
Lightning Storm: i'm not whining, i just find it hilarious
Lightning Storm: geez

Shit. I'm still in a bad position to deal with this guy. I send in T-tar, both to get me out of ice shard, and to use rock slide, for what will hopefully be a KO.

Lightning Storm switched in Tyranitar (lvl 100 Tyranitar ?).
Tyranitar's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm!

Haku used Waterfall.
It's super effective!

Tyranitar lost 97% of its health.
Haku lost 10% of its health.

I just hope I go first next turn...

Haku used Waterfall.
It's super effective!

Tyranitar lost 3% of its health.
Lightning Storm's Tyranitar fainted.

Haku lost 10% of its health.
Omega_Divine: dude ben, yeah that happens but dont be a jerk about it
3-1 Ben
Oh well, at least I got 20% life orb damage.
It's pretty much game now. 3-1 is not a good position to be in.
He's left with 8% HP left now, so I can easily KO him with any of Weavile's (my last pokemon) moves.
I choose ice punch, as it will take care of Gliscor.

Lightning Storm switched in Weavile (lvl 100 Weavile ?).
Weavile is exerting its pressure!

Ben.: no, the jerk is the kid who thinks that he is special becasue some hax happens to him
Weavile used Ice Punch.
Haku lost 8% of its health.
Ben.'s Haku fainted.
2-1 Ben

Yep, there goes Gyarados. now, i just hope i can take care of a 100% Gliscor and 100% mystery pokemon (cue dramatic music.)

Ben. switched in Countess (lvl 100 Gliscor ?).
Lightning Storm: >.>
Lightning Storm: not "special", i just find it intriguing

Weavile used Ice Punch.
It's super effective!

Countess lost 100% of its health.
Ben.'s Countess fainted.
1-1 Tie
Alright! Go go Weavile! now, i just hope i can take care of his last pokemon...

Ganger is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Ganger lost 4% of its health.
Ben.'s Ganger fainted.

Lightning Storm wins!
Ben. has left the room.
Omega_Divine: yeah ben he never said anything about that. Just learn to have fun and play the game nub.
1-0 Lightning Storm!

YES! Weavile deals 96% with Ice Punch! Good game Ben, that was an awesome battle.

Props:
Ben, for playing.
Weavile Sweep!
Coming up from no leads and 2 behind to a win!
Sand Veil/Sand Storm

Slops:
The conversation going on.
7 turns of freeze.
Gyarados.
anti-climactic finish.
"Gengar got some sand in his eyes!
Gengar Fainted!"

Opponent's Team:
Machamp
Spiritomb
Gengar
Gyarados
Gliscor
Roserade

Was erked when you said "glad I didn't go with sleep powder," because it's obvious roserade goes first and would have slept machamp before it could sub (which would have been a better move), and then stopped reading when you said, "Wow, 2 hits in a row with dynamic punch." No one who really plays this game does not know about Machamp's No Guard . . .

Man I feel really F-ing stupid. While posting it i did realize that sleep powder would have been better to use sleep powder, but I didn't realize it at the time.

As for the No-guard thing, I actually did not know that. I only started playing on Smogon about a month ago, and am still learning.

I will add notes to the current post.

You don't really have a good enough understanding of simple game mechanics to make a great warstory.
i.e.:
"Forgot that Spiritomb carried shadow ball."
"I retreat to Swampert to hopefully be hit by a NVE waterfal"

You have a lot of patience Darkie if you read that far.

I stick by the stance that writing a good warstory is a great way to introduce yourself to Smogon, but then it's got to be good. Before writing another one I'd try to get more experience. People don't want to read warstories with obvious mistakes. In fact, while I like writing warstories, I discount every log with any stupid/careless mistakes in them, mine or the opponent's.

I realize this. however, i hope that people can look past the fact that I am UberNub, and enjoy the battle log itself.

I think that I will definitely not be writing anymore warstories until i become more knowledgeable. thanks for the advice.

Don't be too hard on yourself, guy. You formatted the warstory nicely, and although you didn't really give enough insight into the "whys" of your move choices you are, as you admitted, relearning the game.

Don't give up on writing, okay?

You're actually not that bad at writing warstories, it's playing pokemon that you need to work on.

I blame the lack of insight in your comments on your general lack of insight into the game.

I highly suggest that you join smogon's tutoring program the next time it starts up.

Actually, i am taking the tutoring program.

I can win pretty often, but i make a lot of mistakes.

Yes I was also annoyed by many of the noob mistakes you made. Here is a tip. When facing a Pokemon, make sure you look up its stats. Keeping Swampert in on Roserade was a horrible move considering Roserade have 30 more Base Speed than Swampert, and carries STAB grass.

I would give more examples but that was all I read up to.

Oh and Spiritomb is a known Gengar killer. Even if it doesn't carry Shadow Ball it most likely has Pursuit/Sucker Punch.

It was a good warstory but as others mentioned, it was the simple mistakes you made at times.

I definitely have seen this pattern of mistakes while tutoring you and even though you are definitely becoming a better battler, these little things can mess you up.

The warstory wasn't bad though and hopefully once you can get past all of those mistakes, you can have a tremendous warstory for us.

7 turns of freeze is pretty bad though :(

Good first try, but as the others said, your lack of knowledge hurt the game a bit. However, I will say it's quite a bit better than most people's first attempts... *looks at those terrible font tag warstories*

Please get rid of the nicknames. I really, really wish Shoddy had never put the nickname system into the code. It adds nothing but a little humor to playing online and it makes it so that lots of new players that try to write warstories have virtually unreadable text.

I had thought about doing that, but it really takes away the whole "my opponent feel". if someone posted a warstory I were in (and i had nicknamed pokemon), i wouldn't want my creativity being squashed.

That's why warmachine removes the nicknames from the battle lines and not the switch lines.

It makes the warstory easy to read without destroying creativity. [/shameless plug]

Jigglypuff.jpg

Of some of the Simple Mistakes you made.

Had you not made these, I would like this warstory even further than I did. And some pictures would be nice. :D.

As for sleeping the Machamp, it probably had Lum berry, since it evidently didnt have leftovers.

Have a nice day.

Consider yourself a pro compared to the nubs who's first warstory is nothing but a log. At least you had the courtesy to Browse warstories/Lurk around before posting it. Good Job just for that. Warstory itself-- Not bad, but not great.

Now just try missing 5 Focus Blasts in a row while your opponent is frozen for 7 turns :P

That was bad, and then the garchomp speed tie at the end. It was an amazing battle, to bad it came down to hax. Your teams are always fun to face, so al least it was a good time. Also, I like how a heatran can be frozen for 7 turns, it feels kinda wrong.

Good warstory, just keep on battling, you will get better.

I don't seem to come off well in this warstory, sorry about being a jerk about the hax, and not saying gg. I don't think I played as well as i could have made a few mispredictions. I thought I had this one wrapped up, just goes to show!
For future reference it's kind of polite to ask your opponent's permission before posting a warstory. This was only a test team, but I'm pretty much gonna have to scrap it now.
Anyhow, a reasonable game that taught me a few lessons.
Ben
