Welcome to the third Doubles Classic! This tournament will function identically to The Smogon Classic. The preliminary stage will consist of three single elimination cups, one for each of the three past generations of Doubles OU. Players will earn points from these cups using the Smogon Grand Slam point structure, which can be found here. The top 16 players after the conclusion of all 3 cups will qualify for playoffs, which will be a single-elimination bracket consisting of best-of-three multi-gen sets. When all is said and done, the top 32 players overall will earn Circuit Points according to the payout listed here.

Ties after the conclusion of all 3 cups will be broken in the following order:
  1. Best result in an individual tournament. If Player A advanced to the finals of one cup while Player B's best result was a semifinal appearance, Player A will be ranked higher.
  2. Overall win percentage. This is simply the ratio of sets won to sets played.
  3. Coinflip. If both other tiebreakers are equal, seeding order will be determined by public use of !pick on Pokemon Showdown.
If there is a tie for playoffs spots (e.g. 2 people tied for 16th place), the tied players will play a best-of-three multi-gen set to determine who advances. The tiebreaks above will determine who chooses the first generation of the set, defaulting to the newest one (SM) instead of a coinflip if required.

Signups for each cup will be posted during consecutive weeks for a staggered start. Signups will remain open for one week, after which the tournament will begin. The schedule is as follows:
  • BW Cup (hosted by DaWoblefet): Signups posted Sunday, May 22nd
  • XY Cup (hosted by Paraplegic): Signups posted Sunday, May 29th
  • SM Cup (hosted by Arcticblast): Signups posted Sunday, June 5th
If there are any questions, feel free to post them in this thread or send me a PM and I will answer them promptly.

Note that this is not the signup thread - any signups posted in this thread will be deleted and will not count.

Good luck to all competitors!

Slight update to the rules, which I'd been intending since last year but forgot to amend the commencement thread with when posting (revised text is above). When there's a tie on points for playoff spots, all tied players will play the tiebreaker match, with tiebreaks instead used to determine who chooses the first generation played. This is in contrast to previous editions where instead players would be eliminated directly because of best result or win percentage, with tiebreaker matches only played by those tied on both points and the previous two criteria.

Put more simply: only points matter for making Classic playoffs (or tiebreaker matches) now, so you don't need to worry about tiebreaks for if you'll make it or not.
