DP Kyogre

So it's been a long time since i've written up a Peer Edit, so bear with me. This is for something, i've been using on my Team for a while now and has garnered me a fair amount of KOs and works fairly excellently by means of Team Support. Anyway, without further ado.

[SET COMMENTS]

While on paper this Kyogre may look similiar to the "Rest + Sleep Talk" set, its EVs and playstyle actually differentiate the two greatly. While Choice Specs makes Kyogre a powerful wall breaker and Choice Scarf a dangerous revenge killer, being locked into an attack can allow your opponent a free turn if you mispredict or after something has fainted.

This set aims to take advantage of Kyogre's excellent type coverage in Water/Ice/Electric which hits everything for neutral, excluding Lanturn and Shedinja. A simple set on paper, if your item has not yet been discovered, most opponents will bank on either Choice set depending on the damage dealt. Likewise, even if Leftovers has been uncovered, the second most common Kyogre set, the Boosting Tank, only commonly carries Surf allowing you to get the jump on players that send in their own Water-type resistant "counters".

Sleep Talk furthers the masquerade of either the Boosting Tank or a ResTalk set, while giving you a fairly solid counter to Darkrai. Furthermore after absorbing the sleep, you are guaranteed to hit with a damaging attack which will either OHKO or 2HKO. Waterfall is an option, alongside Life Orb and a Mild nature to 2HKO standard Uber Blissey if Stealth Rock has been laid. If you're lacking in passive damage, Aqua Tail is also an option but its accuracy is a little unreliable. A Wacan (Electric-resist) or a Rindo (Grass-resist) Berry can be used over Life Orb or Leftovers to extend the bluff of a Choice Kyogre, while also protecting Kyogre from a surprise super effective attack.

Special Attack has been pumped so Kyogre can do the most damage it can possibly do, while the Speed EVs outpace Rock Polish Groudon (without the Speed Boost) by a single point. Also, if tricked a Choice Scarf, Offensive Kyogre will be able to outrun any non-Scarfed variant of Kyogre as well as Max Speed Jolly Rayquaza.

Nitpick away!

players that send in their own Water resistant with Super Effective Ice and Electric moves

shouldn't that be super effective grass moves?

also, just a bit minor, but wouldn't a very smart/experienced player figure out that the damage output is significantly lower than a choice specs? therefore somewhat lessening the bluff....

Waterfall is an option, alongside Life Orb and a Rash nature to 2HKO standard Uber Blissey if Stealth Rocks have been laid.

I would edit it myself directly but I'm just making sure, I'm assuming you mean a Mild nature so it doesn't lower your Special Defense?

I'd probably mention Aqua Tail in Set Comments to guarantee the 2HKO on uber Bliss without SR, but don't bother giving it a slash.

I corrected grammar / other things in your post directly.

This looks good to me otherwise.

@AceDragon: He can bluff Choice Scarf then. In general, most opponents will not be checking that thoroughly but I guess it would be more accuracte to say he is bluffing choice scarf.

Specs can still be bluffed if you're taking out, say a Darkrai or Manaphy. Something you'd usually OHKO.

It's just that, in my experience, people always assume a Choice Set or a Boosting Tank set, and thus, Kyogre only either has 2 attacking moves or is locked into it's last attack.

Thanks for the fixes, so far.

Just some minor grammar points.

While on paper this Kyogre may look similiar to the "Rest + Sleept Talk" set

Extra 't'.

While Choice Specs makes Kyogre a powerful wall breaker and Choice Scarf a dangerous revenge killer

I'm pretty sure that 'wall breaker' and 'revenge killer' are not capitalised.

Special Attack has been pumped, so Kyogre can do the most damage it can possibly do,

Unneeded comma.

Also, if tricked a Choice Scarf, Offensive Kyogre will be able to outrun any non-Scarfed variant of Kyogre as well as Max Speed Jolly Rayquaza.

A comma goes there =).

LR.
