Welcome to the second installment of DPP World Cup!

The format for the entire tournament will be as follows:

DPP OU Bo3
DPP OU Bo3
DPP OU Bo3
DPP OU Bo1
DPP OU Bo1
DPP OU Bo1

The tournament will comprise 16 teams of 9-10 players: 6 starters and 3-4 substitutes. Each team must have at least one captain, who may be supported by a secondary captain if they so desire. Captains may also be players, though this is not required.

In the first stage of the tournament, the 16 teams will be split into 4 pools of 4 teams each. Over the following three weeks, teams will face each of the other teams in their pool in the 6v6 format above. Teams will be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. At the end of stage one, the teams will be seeded by points. If teams are tied on points, teams with the higher win/loss differential will be seeded higher. (To be clear, win/loss differential is based purely on the result of full matches; Bo3 slots count for 1 win regardless of whether it was 2-0 or 2-1, and they count the same as Bo1 slots.) If teams are tied on both points and win/loss differential, their head-to-head records will then be taken into consideration. A playoffs tiebreak will only occur if:
Teams are tied on all three counts (i.e. they have the same points and win/loss differential, and they tied in Stage 1); and
Qualification for playoffs is at stake (if teams are tied for the first seed, their seeding will be randomised).
Tiebreaks will feature three games of DPP OU Bo1.

After stage one, the top two teams in each pool progress to the playoffs. Sets will be in the same 6v6 format, with the same tiebreak format of 3 Bo1s. Playoffs this year will be seeded as follows:

On activity decisions: Activity decisions will be made in a similar fashion to any other standard Smogon team tournament. Be transparent in scheduling, flag scheduling conflicts early, and keep the hosts in the loop. Teams have either 30 minutes from the scheduled time or 20 minutes from the team ping to produce a player (the original player or a substitute) - whichever is longer.

Rules
  • Schedule via Smogon VMs. It's easier for me to make decisions for activity calls when I can actually see what went down with scheduling.
  • On activity decisions: They will be handled in a similar way than PLs, i.e activity wins will only be handed as last resort. I will be reluctant to give activity wins to those who are clearly fishing for them, be transparent about your activity and most importantly, communicate with the opposing team and myself if there is any kind of trouble during the scheduling process. In any case, activity calls will not be made before the round is over.
  • On substitutions: Given the unusual format of this world cup, substitutions are also treated the same as in PLs. When making a substitution, please tag myself, the captains of the opposing team, and the player affected by the substitute to ensure that everyone is made aware. Players who have already played in the week or were subbed out in the same week cannot be subbed back in.
  • Matches are to be played on smogtours.
  • Replays are mandatory for all games.
