Ships tomorrow. I've been playing Dragon Quest / Dragon Quest Monsters since the first GBC installment way back in 1999 and I'm an avid fan of the series. Given the nature of Smogon, I'm sure that there are some other DQMers out there that will be buying it (I'm looking at you Kiku).
One of the coolest features that I've read about so far is the wifi support. The online mode in DQM:J functions a lot like the wifi battle tower in D/P. You download a set of user-created teams and see if you can beat it; the more you win, the higher your overall rank becomes (The world leader boards are displayed ingame) and the better your prizes for winning get.
And that's where I'll get to the point. Although there is (to my knowledge) no direct player-to-player Wifi play, there still exists potential for somewhat of a competitive metagame, albeit not nearly on the same level as Pokemon. I know it's jumping the gun a bit as the game still hasn't been released in the US, but would any DQMers here be willing to get together and discuss tactics, breeding tricks, etc. once the game comes out? Smogon seems like a good place to ask.
Oh, and if you haven't heard much about this game yet and are curious, check the IGN page here. It's a fantastic series that most lovers of Pokemon would also enjoy.
I think I'll end this thread with an image that shows just how much DQM kicks ass.
