Dreaming the offense

Hey there, this will be my first thread on smog forum D:
I've been always looking at RMT but have never submitted one. I always played Standard Ou and, well, it's too standard. So i started going in DW, where I created this team. I peaked... well, i peaked around 20th position before the ladder reset. Now it's too early to have a peak to show.
Changes will be in italic.
Building Process:
I decided from the beginning to start with an offensive team
243.gif

I wanted to start with my fav poke. I remembered a 4th gen lead attacker that could help me. So i needed something that could pair well by checking the walls that raikou couldn't touch. I wanted HP ice on Raikou, so here came Celebi.
243.gif
251.gif

This duo could also easily check rain and sand teams, except for some scarf Landorus and Garchomp/Exca. So i used Gliscor to better tank hits from the above threats
243.gif
251.gif
472.gif

With a huge weakness to ice, i picked Jirachi, that could even wall some dragons and threaten them with paralysis. Also, at the beginning it was my StealthRocker.
243.gif

So i needed a scarfer, that could kill revenge kill. I decided to fit in Gyarados, that could be another check to sand teams with its moxie boosted waterfalls. Also, another resistance to fightning is always well accepted

Lastly, i needed a pursuiter and priority user. Yeah, Scizor...

After that i saw a huge weakness to fire, especially nape and shadowtag chandy.
I changed quite every team member, starting to get rid of Celebi for Breloom, changing the set of jirachi... well, revolution: I wanted a better pursuiter that could switch in every Chandelure's attack and i picked Tyranitar; a faster scarfer and I chose Genesect; with genesect and Breloom, i didn't need Gliscor anymore and started using Keldeo. The last to change was Jirachi. I was reluctant to change that set, one of the best lurers i've ever used. But without leftovers (i played shed shell) it was too hardpressed and couldn't break walls. Also, i needed a spinner against the rare stalls

After this test, i saw a huge weakness to strong earthquakes (exca+garchomp cores especially) and decided to change my leader Raikou to a Gliscor

Team in details

472.gif

Gliscor (F) @ Flying Gem
Trait: Sand Veil
EVs: 48 HP / 252 Atk / 208 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Acrobatics
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance

This is listed as first but I never lead with her. Not sure about the EV spread, but I can just say it outspeeds common ninetales that usually want to revenge kill Exca (running 303 speed) and having even HP number to get to 4 subs hoping for hax. It helps me check the strong sand sweepers that enjoy coming in my Tyranitar and threaten my team. It can even sweep by its own if it grabs a sand veil hax and gets at +2. It also threatens one of the few pokes I couldn''t touch with the team before: Amoonguss. The moveset is the standard Acrobat.

647.gif

Keldeo @ Leftovers
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Secret Sword
- Surf
- Substitute

Keldeo usually enters against water attacks and starts CalmMinding. If under rain, i can just spam surf to see things go down. I chose Leftovers in conjunction with substitute because Lum Berry didn't help me so much. It can weaken evey wall, Secret Sword 1HKOes Blissey/Chansey and maims Gastro, which is always a good thing. It can also 2HKO ferrothorn, depending on the evs. True, I get walled by Jellicent and Lati@s, but i can check them easily with other teammates.

286.gif

Breloom (M) @ Shed Shell
Trait: Technician
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Spore
- Swords Dance
- Mach Punch
- Bullet Seed

One of the most annoying pokes in 4th gen, now this mushroom is the most terrifying priority user of the game. Same atk than Scizor, better coverage and access to 100% sleep move. What else to say? It helps me check Exca, Terra, any fight weak mon and any wall. Also, can check to a lesser extent Garchomps that want to sub until in range of Salac Berry. I find myself using Spore lesser than I'd have to. Everybody knows he has spore, so they switch in something they want to get to sleep and switch the counter in after Spore is used. It also works as lurer to Chandelure. With Shed Shell, I can change Breloom and bring in Tyranitar, that traps him with Pursuit. The moveset is pretty standard.

248.gif

Tyranitar (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 228 SDef / 28 Spd
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Pursuit
- Roar (thanks to Jimbon for the suggestion)
- Superpower
- Stealth Rock

Tyranitar is the most defensive mon of the team. It doesn't come in very often. I just use it to counter rain teams and to pursuit the rare psychic/ghost pokes. Not sure about the EV distribution, but i just wanted to outspeed enemy CB and standard Tyranitars and nab a kill with superpower. Roar phazes some sweepers and especially Volcarona. I usually use it when Garchomp first switches in me the first time, as it tends to use substitute Stealth Rock is a must on every team and it is the only one with a free slot.

530.gif

Excadrill (F) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide

The best offensive spinner of the game. I prefer Air Balloon over Leftovers or Life Orb so that I can check better the aforementioned Exca, Garchomp or Landorus In sand, it outspeeds quite everything and has no problem grabbing a SD boost, becoming threatening. The only things I need to avoid are random Scald burns and priority users and i can have a clean sweep.

649.gif

Genesect @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Download
EVs: 4 SDef / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
- U-turn
- Thunderbolt
- Flamethrower
- Ice Beam

It's the one I lead with when i see a bad matchup for Raikou. Standard moves and evs. If I see a Chandelure in Team Preview, I just spam U-turn to not give it chances to set-up. It revenge kills many pokes or just helps me get momentum. It can even sweep late game if it can grab a Spatk boost. I use a Hasty nature just to give enemy Genesects an Atk boost.

Copypaste:
Genesect @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Download
EVs: 4 SDef / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)

- Ice Beam

Tyranitar (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 240 SDef / 16 Spd
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Pursuit
- Superpower
- Stealth Rock
- Roar

Excadrill (M) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd

Hi Sewa,

Your team is a good example of Offensive Sand in Dream World, Tyranitar supporting the other members of your team to pull off a sweep. Applying constant pressure and hitting hard. One thing I have noticed from looking over your team is your big Ground weakness. Mons such as Garchomp and Excadrill can cause a lot of problems for your team, as well as opposing Sand Teams in general. You can't switch anything thing into Garchomp / Excadrill safely in fear of being 2HKO'd which seems like the biggest problem to your team.

There are many ways to remedy this. One way I would fix this would be to try Skarmory over Breloom.

Spr_5b_227.png

Skarmory (M) @ Shed Shell
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Whirlwind
- Brave Bird
- Roost

Skarmory does a lot of things for your team. Although it lacks the very helpful Sleep status that can allow free set up for other team members, Skarmory can provide very helpful Spikes support. Spikes in conjuction with Tyranitar's Stealth Rock will grant the KO's Excadrill / Breloom / Raikou deserve. Skarmory also acts as a more defensive pivot for your team. Skarmory eases up your Ground weakness, giving you a switch in to powerful Earthquakes. Skarmory also helps you reliably check opposing offensive Sand Teams as long as you remove Genesect / Keldeo, as Skarmory can take on Excadrill, Gliscor, Terrakion, Garchomp and more big sand threats. Shed Shell on Skarmory also lures in Chandelure, who can be an annoyance and after switching into Tyranitar you can still Pursuit trap it. Skarmory still gives you near enough the same synergy as Breloom too, whilst giving you an extra Flying and Psychic resist.

Another thing I noticed was Excadrill's leftovers. While Leftovers helps Excadrill restore health each turn after switching in to hazards, it leaves you prone to opposing Excadrills who commonly run Air Balloon. I also, think you should change Excadrill's item to Air Balloon. Air Balloon keeps Excadrill allows it to avoid annoying Spikes damage that can slowly bring it down. It also gives you a switch in to the aforementioned mons spamming Earthquake should you choose to keep Breloom over Skarmory.

I'd also change Tyranitar's moveset around a little. Stone Edge might be practical for hitting Volcarona's trying to set up on you, but that's all you're hitting. You're still set up fodder for Garchomp and friends after using Superpower, getting increasingly weaker after each use. What I would recommend in this moveslot is Roar. Roar is a fantastic option for Tyranitar. Who needs to get rid of Volcarona when you can get Stealth Rocks up and simply Roar it out. It also helps out you out against pesky Sand Veil abusers, primarily Garchomp and Gliscor, who commonly run Substitute. Roar removes them which is very helpful for your team, considering the big Ground weakness your team has.

tl;dr

Skarmory > Breloom
Air Balloon > Leftovers for Excadrill
Roar > Stone Edge for Tyranitar

Good luck with the team, hope I helped!

Thanks for the rate. I was just thinking about something to fix earth weaknees, but Skarm is not offensive enough and only postpones the problem by phazing those pokes. And Breloom is my priority user (ESpeed is not strong enough).
The other suggestions are extremely good. I just was thinking about air baloon, but never wanted to use it. After this comment, i'm gonna try it. As for roar, another good idea. I'll test and see.
What do you think about Raikou? Better use hp grass, go timid with volt absorb or just change it to Thundurus?

Raikou is still good, but yeah, I'd change the set a little. You could go with Sub Calm Mind or Life Orb / Leftovers 4 attacks. It seems a little silly to me that you run Extremespeed on Raikou for priority purposes when you have Excadrill in Sand reaching 600 Speed and Breloom with Mach Punch. Not to mention you have Choice Scarf Genesect aswell. You could probably change Extremespeed for Volt Switch to keep the momentum going in unison with Genesect's U-Turns. You should still keep Hidden Power [Ice] imo, bulky waters are still hit hard by Thunderbolt or Breloom so it's not a problem. It also hits stuff like Garchomp on the switch who is one of the biggest threats to your team.
